5-13-13 MondayStudents will demonstrate an understanding of infectious diseases , how and what can cause a viral epidemic, and how the viral infection cycle works.1. Movie: Contagion – finish last 5 minutes to answer the last question.

( question 27 and 28)not 6th2. Movie: Outbreak ( students will view a media presentation about

infectious diseases and answer questions while viewing. Counts as a quiz and daily grade) Students who cannot remain quiet during the film will be warned before a grade of zero is recorded and a referral for being disruptive in class is issued.

3. Reminders: Rest, Relax, and Prep for Geography EOC. Good Luck!! Movie questions count as a quiz AND a daily grade….what have you earned? YOU determine your grades…not the teacher.

5-15-13 Wednesday Objective: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the different organs/structures that make up the body systems of an organism.

*2nd-4th period turn in Contagion/Outbreak Questions*1. Review over Lab Safety and Proper Dissecting

Techniques/Tools ( complete lab safety sheet)- Paste in Journal

2. Anatomical Dialogue ( body planes and directional terms) – write down in journal

3. Pre-Lab Questions: Anatomy of a GrasshopperPre-Lab ( you may not participate in lab if this not done class)**Reminders: Extra Credit is due today! Keep track of your grade. When you fail to turn in work ( you have 2 days for a late grade of a 70, stated in syllabus), you GAVE yourself a zero. When you do not take advantage of the opportunity to retest for a grade of at least a 70, you chose to keep that failing grade!**

Body Planes

• Lateral Plane or Sagittal Plane: Imagine a vertical plane that runs through your body from front to back or back to front. This plane divides the body into right and left regions.

• Median or Mid-sagittal Plane: Sagittal plane that divides the body into equal right

and left regions..

• Frontal Plane or Coronal Plane: Imagine a vertical plane that runs through the center of your body from side to side. This plane divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) regions. Transverse Plane: Imagine a horizontal plane that runs through the midsection of your body. This plane divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) regions

5-16-13 ThursdayStudents will demonstrate an understanding of the different organs/structures that make up the body systems of an organism. 1. Video: Grasshopper Dissection ( 9 min) Review Pre-Lab2. Lab: Grasshopper Dissection (20 min) – do NOT worry about

completing the class data table! Also, we will NOT be using scalpels, we will use the forceps! --Make sure you have: a ruler, a pointer, pan, goggles, lab apron, gloves and forceps

3. Students not participating in lab need to complete Chapter 28 section reviews 1-5 for all.

4. Clean Up Area/Return to Desks – Rinse off tools, dispose of parts in the large trash, wipe off mats, wipe off tables and rinse off trays.

5. Post-Lab Questions – remainder of class Reminders: Keep track of your grade. Lab Procedures

1. Complete Data Table 1.2. Complete External Dissection ( laminated mats)3. Complete Data Table 3.4. Clean Up Area/Return to Desks – Rinse off tools, dispose

of parts in the large trash, wipe off mats, wipe off tables , fold aprons and place with goggles back in tray underneath lab tables, and rinse off trays.

5. Complete Post Lab Questions ( stable to grasshopper anatomy sheet then turn into the tray!)** students who did not participate in lab need to turn in anatomy sheet and section reviews**

5-17-13 Friday

Fun Zone Friday, Yeah!!!!!Students will continue to demonstrate an understanding of how the viral infection process works; Students will work on Pre-Lab Questions for Fetal Pig Dissection.

Pre-lab: Before observing internal or external structures of the fetal pig, you will need to complete the pre-lab. Using your device ( phone, tablet, or laptop), answer the questions to the pre-lab. Useful Link: http://www.whitman.edu/content/virtualpig
