SCRIPTING CULTURES

DANEIL LIBESKIND

Daniel Libeskind is one of the contemporary deconstructive architects. He think that the work has developed by dropping the designations ‘form,’ ‘function,’ and ‘program,’ and engaging in the public and political realm, which is synonymous with architecture, the dynamics of building take on a new dimension.flexibility for the design.

ROYAL ONTRIO MUSEUM

He try not to use programming to form the whole project. And what types of tools does he use for the project, Royal Ontario Museum, at the initial period? Libeskind like to script some conceptual diagram, shape of the building, connectiv-ity between different function’s spaces and human. Scripting is the only methods to

represent the designer’s thinking immedi-ately and it is the process for architects to think about how’s the relation between site and existing building and how to reflect it into the building design. Programming is just a machine to generate different types of models by no mean, the product can place into everywhere since it couldn’t concern the site condition.

STRUCTURAL SYSTEM

However, Royal Ontario Museum is formed by the interlocked irregular boxes at different angles, that’s why that structural system would be quite different from the other buildings. it is difficult build up the whole building by scripting for his deconstruction architecture “Crystal” due to the complex structural framework. It requires accuracy formula to calculate the angle between walls and beam to ensure the building can stand property.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATION

Also computer is a great tool for studying environment design, for example wind path thought building and light effect. It may need to take a long time on design-ing the effect of sunlight on the building. Using programming can help Libeskind to study the light effect from those compli-cated windows.
