SUNDAY SMILE: Paddy the painter always managed to undercut everyone’s tender… by thinning down his paint to make it go further. The local Catholic church was having a big redecorating job done. Paddy’s bid was accepted because of his low price. He set to, erecting the scaffolding, buying the paint and yes, I am ashamed to say, thinning down the paint. He was up on the scaffolding painting away when there was a terrible crash of thunder. The scaffolding collapsed and he fell down among the benches surrounded by the tell-tale puddles of the thinned and useless paint. Paddy knew that this was a judgement from God, so he got down on his knees and cried: ‘Oh God forgive me! Please, what should I do?’ Amid the thunder and lightning, a mighty voice spoke, ‘Repaint, repaint and thin no more!

ROSARY ON THE COAST DAILY PRAYER IN PREPARATION

40 days of prayerful preparation began on Monday 19 March, Feast of St Joseph. We will say a prayer before each Mass.

We pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we prepare for Rosary on the Coast. We pray that our 40 days of spiritual preparation will unite us, and deepen our resolve, as we pray for our countries, for a re-flourishing of faith, for the dignity of the human person and respect for all human life, and for peace to prevail in our personal lives, marriages, families, and nation. We make our prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen

St Joseph, St Andrew, St David, St George & St Patrick, pray for us. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us.

Queen of Heaven rejoice, Alleluia; The Son whom you merited to bear, Alleluia, has risen as He said, Alleluia. Pray for us to God, Alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia, For the Lord is truly Risen, Alleluia.

EASTER PRAYER O Lord,

How amazing is your love, A love that overcomes, endures

and redeems. How astounding is your life,

A life that sustains, heals and creates.

How awesome is your hope, A hope that promises, restores

and inspires. How absorbing is your truth, A truth that releases, changes

and rebuilds.

How we worship you, as we remember the moment when your

love conquered. When out of the cave of sorrow

Jesus arose to release forgiveness to the world.

And each time we encounter this Resurrection Day we are again

lifted to an eternal place. Our sin, brokenness and

darkness fall away and your light and peace flood our lives. How we thank you for this

incredible celebration we call Easter.

Amen

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Romans 6:3-5

DO YOU KNOW THE 7 JOYS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY?

Among the many different devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary, one that is often

overlooked is devotion to her Seven Joys. Many may be more familiar with the Seven

Sorrows of Mary, especially through the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows. However, few know

about her Seven Joys, which are an equally ancient tradition.

The Franciscans have helped preserve this tradition over the centuries through their “Rosary”

called the Franciscan Crown. According to one story, this Crown developed when the

Blessed Virgin appeared to a young Franciscan novice in the 15th Century and “instructed

him how, by reciting daily a Rosary of seven decades in honour of her seven joys, he might

weave a crown that would be more pleasing to her than the material wreath of flowers.”

The seven joys that are meditated on during the Franciscan Crown closely resemble the five

Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.

1. Annunciation

2. Visitation

3. Nativity of Jesus

4. Adoration of the Magi

5. Finding of Jesus in the Temple

6. Resurrection of Jesus

7. Assumption of Mary & Coronation of the Virgin in Heaven

Devotion to the seven joys of Mary is a beautiful counterpart to

the seven sorrows and helps balance a person’s spiritual life,

recognizing that existence is not just filled with sorrows, but also

contains many joys in this life and the life to come.
