  • Principal’s Report Dear Parents and Carers,

    HSC Restrictions

Whilst the HSC is always a challenging time, this year has proved a particularly challenging one. I am so proud of how well our year 12 students have managed this difficult time. As their studies at school slowly come to an end, the restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19 continue to impact on our students, and many of the traditional activities like a farewell breakfast are simply not possible.

Whilst you may have read in the news that formals have been approved in Term 4, there are still strict restrictions around them which makes it difficult for us to plan for our collective year 12 classes across RAP. At this stage all schools would still not be approved to have a combined formal. We continue to monitor the restrictions closely and work together across RAP to seek a way to celebrate the incredible achievement of our young men and women.

    COVID-19

I unfortunately need to remind the community once again that any visitors must go to the front office immediately upon arrival at the school, and are not permitted to mix with the students. Any visitor onsite must complete the visitor information in the front office. Whilst this can be inconvenient, the information there will be important if COVID-19 does make it way to Barellan, so together with Health we would be able to quickly limit its impact.

Our administration staff are happy to make this as easy as possible and to work on safe alternatives. For example, if you are collecting your children early during the day, you can call ahead of time and they will be able to accompany your children to the school gate to help you avoid coming on site.

    Tuesday 5 v 5

In recognising how important sport is for our communities to bond and compete, as well as the many other benefits, we are trialling a 5-a-side sporting competition between the students from Barellan, Ariah Park and Ardlethan. We hope to

grow this into a regular competition that will focus on fair play, hard competition and building bonds between our primary and secondary students. Under current restrictions we can’t have all schools come together, however competing teams from single schools can.

Next Tuesday we will have our first competition day with secondary league tag games with our friends from Ariah Park Central School. I look forward to welcoming them to the school and for our students to get behind our team as we play three games against their teams.

    Tell them from me

The information we receive from staff, students and family members in the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) survey is very important to us. We analyse and respond to this information. For example, students have indicated a lower level of advocacy at school and we are consequently developing a mentoring program to better support our students. When bullying was identified as a significant issue in 2018, we developed a comprehensive anti-bullying plan and start to embed teaching respectful relationships into classes and whole school processes. Your feedback is very valuable to us. Please complete the survey to help us better help your children.

    Bus

I’ve finalised the lease arrangements for the new school bus. I’d like to thank the P&C once again for your generous support of our students. We will be leasing a 25-seater Rosa Deluxe bus which will enable us to link our learning experiences more directly with the broader community. An early impact will be the increase in subjects we can offer for elective students in years 9 and 10 next year as our students will be able to learn from a greater range of teachers than currently.

    Athletics Fun Day

On the last Friday of term we will farewell our HSC students with a combined Athletics/Fun Day. We will have a range of events, including novelty events.

We thank you in advance for understanding that school activities can’t take place with external

  • visitors. We will share the day with you via photos and videos uploaded throughout the day.

I wish you the very best for a lovely term break at the end of next week,

    Have a lovely weekend,

    Paul Laing

    CANTEEN ROSTER TERM 3 - 2020

    Thursday 24/9 Friday 25/9

    Julie Kenny Rae McDonald

    In brief:

    • HSC graduations are still limited under COVID-19 restrictions.

    • All visitors must sign in at the front office. If you come on site, you must complete the visitors’ declaration. You can avoid this by calling ahead and planning with the administration staff to help you not come on site (such as collecting children from the front gate, or dropping off supplies at the entrance to the school).

    • We will be playing a series of league tag games against Ariah Park CS next Tuesday

    • Please complete the Tell Them From Me Survey

    • The school has finalised the lease arrangements for a new bus.

    • On the last day of term, we will be celebrating with a combined Athletics/Fun Day.

    7/8 History

A reminder to all Year 7/8 students to return their permission note and $4 contribution to the front office for their celebration of their study of Ancient China.

    P&C Notices

    Requesting Old Engines

Widgewa Class would like old engines such as lawn mowers for repair. They will return those they can fix. Thank you.

The P&C would like to thank everyone who supported the Pie Drive.

With your help we have raised just over $1000. What an amazing effort!

This money will be used to support the students of Barellan Central School with their learning and wellbeing.

    Thank you

  • International Celebrations International Equal Pay Day – September 18

“Across all regions, women are paid less than men, with the gender pay gap estimated at 23 per cent globally. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls continues to be held back owing to the persistence of historical and structural unequal power relations between women and men, poverty and inequalities and disadvantages in access to resources and opportunities that limit women’s and girls’ capabilities."

International Day of Sign Languages – September 23

“According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are approximately 72 million deaf people worldwide. More than 80% of them live in developing countries. Collectively, they use more than 300 different sign languages. Sign languages are fully fledged natural languages, structurally distinct from the spoken languages. There is also an international sign language, which is used by deaf people in international meetings and informally when travelling and socializing. It is considered a pidgin form of sign language that is not as complex as natural sign languages and has a limited lexicon.”

International Day of Peace – September 21

“This year, it has been clearer than ever that we are not each other’s enemies. Rather, our common enemy is a tireless virus that threatens our health, security and very way of life. COVID-19 has thrown our world into turmoil and forcibly reminded us that what happens in one part of the planet can impact people everywhere. In March, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on all warring parties to lay down their weapons and focus on the battle against this unprecedented global pandemic.”

World Mental Health Day – October 10

“World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.”
