The Stage 3 students, Mrs Lieschke and I had a wonderful trip to Ballarat last week with the Walbundrie Small Schools. The teachers were very proud of the way the students conducted themselves throughout the three days. We received many positive comments regarding the manners and behaviour of our students from tour guides, the bus driver and the staff at the accommodation. The students experienced what it was like to be a student in the 1800’s, saw gold bullion being poured, went down into the mines, panned for gold, dipped candles, saw the Red Coats parade, experienced the Eureka Stockade with the enactment ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’. They visited the Museum of Democracy and rode on a Tram in Bendigo. Everywhere the students went, they were able to ask and answer excellent questions stemming from the research they had done in class prior to the excursion. I must also mention, that we have some talented tenpin bowlers amongst us. It was a fantastic night of bowling, with lots of laughs and steep competition, especially between Mrs Duncan and Miss Widdison! Congratulations to our students, I hope they have been able to create some memories that will last their lifetime. Out with the OLD and in with the NEW!

We continue to upgrade different aspects of the school. This term we have purchased 7 new computers, 3 large whiteboards for Visible Learning, new notice boards for the office, flag poles for our foyer and new First Aid Kits for excursions. We have also purchased $2,500.00 worth of history, geography and science readers for the 3/4 and 5/6 classroom.

Year 6 Leaders for 2018

Year 5 students have been given a copy of the Leadership Policy outlining the responsibilities of School Captains and the Leadership Team and the process for presenting a speech and the elections. This is a very important, but anxious time for Year 5 students and I ask the parents to support them through the process and stress to their children that all Year 6 students have leadership roles and opportunities. If you have any questions regarding the process or the Leadership Policy, please contact the school to discuss this.

School Disco

The School will hold a disco for the students on Friday, December 8th. Parents are asked to drop students off under the cola at 6.30pm and collect them from under the cola at 8.30pm. The students are asked to bring a small plate of food to share. There will be no cost for this event and supervision will be provided by the school staff. Library News

We have a fantastic collection of books in our Library and it is great to see students borrowing regularly. As we are nearing the end of the year there will only be a couple more opportunities to borrow. Please encourage your child to make use of our Library. At present we have a number of overdue books. By keeping books longer than the booking period students are preventing others from using them. Please check at home for any books that need to come back. Books can be returned to Mrs Noll at any time or left in the office. Happy Reading! Food for thought……

Our school uniform always looks smart, is practical and includes many options. It helps present Walla Walla Public School to the wider community and as allows us to show pride in our school.

I do however, think that the state of our hats is letting us down. Uniforms help to unify a group of students. Please consider the picture below. I am encouraging all families to consider upgrading faded hats to a new, broader brimmed hat that is currently available for $13.00 from the uniform shop. These hats are made of a cooling material, have a draw string for use during sport and a broader brim for sun protection. Some parents may argue that there is nothing wrong with the current hat, apart from being faded, but I do think, as we rebrand our school, this is a small step towards achieving a better look in our community. It would be nice to see the students wearing these new hats in the new year.
