WEEK 6

This conceptual structural model (1:50) is to illustrate the structural system of the roof of

ERC building, which can be divided into three parts. The first part is the existing wall

which is made by concrete in the real structure, and there are steel made columns on

the other side. This two parts is the structure to support the roof structure which is steel

roof beams.

During the modal making process, our group found that the modal is

moving if it only made by this three parts, thus we add this two

beams( as showed in the circle) between the columns and roof beams

to make it stable.

As for the shape of the columns,

it has showed the wide-flange(W)

shape steel, which is a sort of

more efficient shape. It means

that has less material cost, and

using lightest steel section resist

bending and shear force (Ching

2008, p.4.16).

As showed from the drawings, the connections of steel beams

and existing concrete wall use end plate welded to beam all

around and bolted or welded for the connection.
