For your creative writing piece, choose one of the three options:

• Write a newspaper article directed at 6th form students about the importance of maintaining social distance in light of Covid-19

• Write the transcript of a podcast between two speakers (can be an interview) who are discussing healthy lifestyle choices for 6th form students; the purpose is to inform / entertain

• Write a letter to an organization of your choice, explaining why you want to volunteer for them.

Some important tips

Always read the options several times, make sure you are aware of form, content, audience, purpose.

Examiners will heavily deduct marks if any of the above information is incorrect. For example, if the intended audience is supposed to be children and you use sophisticated vocabulary.

Choose the option that you personally know best or have experience with. For example, don’t choose option two if you don’t know much about healthy living or if you’ve never heard a podcast before.

Let’s read two more examples of students’ work to generate more ideas.

Can you identify which option each of these students chose?

As well, pay attention to how these students structure their texts. Does it seem like they have a plan, with each paragraph or section focusing on a specific idea, or is it completely random?
