WELCOME TO THE SECOND WEEK OF CAMARENA TK We have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your children this week! We are also excited to build our classroom community with the teacher home connection by getting to know you! This week we will begin “Camarena Color Days.” Please see the schedule on our classroom Blog, and have your child wear the appropriate color to school that day. One activity that is sure to bolster our connection is the Curriculum Night that will be held on Wednesday August 5 th . This evening event will inform you of our curricular plan, social- emotional goals, positive self-esteem building philosophy and be a venue for any and all questions you may have. This event is for parents/guardians only and will be the only event we ask you to find childcare for your child. Students will be bringing home their first homework this week. Please keep in mind the Alphafriends CD, Alphafriends Page, and Name Tracing Dry Erase Mat for your child to practice as part of their homework routine. Please keep these items at home. The Family Projects: All About Me and Mini Me are the only homework being turned in. The web-based homework should be done at your leisure and be enjoyable! Please send in all required paperwork as soon as possible. HOMEWORK: Language Arts: Alphafriends CD – Practice singing the Alphafriends song along with the Alphafriends Page that is in your folder. We will be teaching the movements that go with this Homework Tips Routine: Kids need a routine. This is true for eating, sleeping and playtime. Having an established routine helps your child know what to expect, and gives a sense of order to their life. Add homework time to the routine by putting it in after school, following a snack and before dinner. Kids get tired, so doing homework in the evening is not recommended. Instill the idea of getting work done and then being free to play as a reward. Space: Set up an organized, clear space for doing homework. It should be free of distractions, the TV should be off and there should be quiet. Have supplies needed for homework available, such as pencils, scissors and crayons. Attention: Sit with your TK child and look over their homework with them. Make sure they know what to do, and provide help if needed. NEVER do your child’s homework for them, but instead provide encouragement. This lets your child know YOU believe in their capabilities!
