SUMMERY NATURE CRAFTS [Ages 3 ½-6]Let’s celebrate this wonderful time of the year with sum-mery crafts! Using paint, papers, clay and foraged items, we’ll design butterflies, colorful kites, shell frames, tie dyed tees and tree houses. Summer stories, snack and outside time at each session.

STUDIO ARTS [Ages 7-12]In a studio arts format we will explore different art me-diums and mixed media art. Students will be encouraged and challenged with design options and creative decisions through a series of age appropriate projects. Paint, pastels, clay, inks, collage, book making and more will be explored.

PAINTING & DRAWING OUTSIDE & IN THE STUDIO: SESSION B [Ages 5-9]Students will use water based paints, pencil and pastels and work from their imagination and still life as well as nature. FANTASTIC CREATURES [Ages 5-9]Let’s design and create fantastic dinosaurs and mythical creatures large and small. Using clay, paper mache, tubes, wire and cardboard we’ll build, mold and twist our crea-tures into shape. Textural paint, sparkling beads, colorful paper and buttons will bring our creations to life!

INTRO TO THROWING WEEK: SESSION A [Ages 8-12]Come learn the magic of the potters wheel. Students will learn all the basic steps, from proper clay preparation techniques like wedging, to how the wheel works and its possibilities, while experimenting with lifting (pulling) and shaping clay. Numerous decorating techniques will be explored, and once pieces are made and dried out, each student will finish their piece with glaze, to be fired in the kiln. Students should wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty.

LITTLE GLOBE TROTTERS [Ages 3 ½-6]Learn about the lives of children from other countries through crafts, stories and songs. Print a fabric Adinkra cloth from Ghana, mold clay adobe houses, animalitos from Mexico, design Egyptian sistrum instruments and Japanese fans. Authentic artifacts from different countries will be shared at each session.

HANDS ON HAND BUILDING: SESSION D [Ages 5-9]Learn basic steps from start to finish on how to make a hand built piece either functional or sculptural. Learn how to roll coils and slabs, pinch, apply texture, and decorate. Students should wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty.

Celebrate and explore the art of the Mexican Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead), just as the characters of Miguel and Hector discover ancestral stories and traditions in this great family movie.

SYMMETRY, PATTERNS & INTRICATE DESIGNS [Ages 8-12]Explore the world of symmetry, patterns and intricate designs and learn how to easily create them. Working with paint, clay, beads, yarn, fabric, stamps and decorative paper, students will learn how patterns and designs occur in our natural environment and how artist incorporate these elements into their work. Hands-on instruction is accompanied by a visual presentation for each project.

Students will experiment with a variety of compatible art glass to produce different effects in their creations. All glass projects will be fired in a kiln and some pieces may require pickup the following week. Fee payable with tuition $50.00.

COLOR PLAY & COLOR FUN [Ages 3 ½-6]Embark on a colorful adventure filled with mixing, splashing, pouring, and smudging. Learn about color while exploring with chalk, markers and crayons, tempera and watercolor, self-hardening clay, and string. Our activities will be guided by introducing an artist each day and learning about how they used color in their work. Artists that will inspire us: Van Gogh, Kandinsky, O’Keefe, Picasso, Pollock.

CLAY ARCHITECTURE FOR MOVIE & VIDEO CHARACTERS [Ages 7-12]Clay is a sustainable material from Mother Earth, and we’ll use it to design and build vehicles and environments, and characters from movies and video games. Learn creativity routines and make mazes, castles and playgrounds. Learn drawing and painting skills to create a scenic backdrop surrounding.
