¨  George Washington takes oath of office as President in NYC

¨  In 1794 farmers refused to pay a whiskey tax to the Government. Washington sent 15,000 troops to force them to pay. This was called the “Whiskey Rebellion”. THIS SHOWED THE STRENGTH OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
