Announcement The School Learning Support Officer position funded by
the P&C until the end of Term 4 will be filled by Brenton Cochrane. Welcome Brenton to our school.
Hats, please. The weather is starting to get warmer so we need all children to wear a hat during times in the playground. Please ensure your child has a hat to wear.
Please encourage your children to wear a school hat. Hats are $10 at the canteen ... A very reasonable price for the cost of sun exposure when students are older. I often see children walking on weekends or after school with school hats on but they don’t have them at school. Please encourage your children to leave their hats at school.
You Can Do It Education This week we are focusing on the Getting Along Key. How well do we “get along” with each other? Actually, pretty well. Congratulations kids. Thanks for your efforts at “Getting Along”. It makes our day!! Getting along means being tolerant of others. I saw the Year 5 buddies and transition students having a great game yesterday afternoon. Year 5 students were being very tolerant, playing by the rules and showing social responsibility. Mrs. Baird and Miss Fagan told me that the children who travelled to the writer’s workshop were all being very cooperative, listening well to the presenters and showing excellent manners. Very sadly some students from other schools weren’t being well mannered. So, congratulations Year 5 and the Year 3 and 4 students for showing that you know how to get along. Students this week will be talking about cooperation, showing manners, helping other students, and very important is this statement : Treat people the way you would like to be treated. Parents, please discuss with your children this important key to a successful life.
Spelling Bee Good luck to Olivia Gligorevic, Aleisha Middleton, Emma Hawkins and Lucas Piper who will be representing our school in the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee. We are very proud of your efforts already because we know you will all do your best. Most importantly, your spelling knowledge will be greatly enhanced.
The P&C Meeting which was scheduled for tomorrow , 12th September has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 10th October. All final figures from the car rally will be available for this meeting.

Last Thursday 15 students from Years 3 and 4 went to TREC at Tamworth for the Writing Workshop ‐ Come Spin a Yarn. The Year 3 students listened and worked with John Heffernan, Cartoon Dave and Michael Wagner. We had lots of fun and learnt how to be better writers. At the end of each session each presenter gave out 3 raffle tickets to the people who were participating or listening well. Lorina Williams’ name was drawn out at the end of the day. She won a book called Percy Jackson and the Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan. “The best part of the day was learning how to draw cartoons”. Jordyn Hayne ‐ 3B Zoe Zawada ‐ 3B. “I liked how the authors gave us their autographs and how Cartoon Dave taught us how to draw Bart Simpson”. Lorina Williams ‐ 3B. “The best part of the day was writing a story with John Heffernan.” Sheree Howison ‐ 3B. “The best part was The Bushwackers singing “We are Australian”. Lucas Piper ‐ 4F. “Last week some year 3 and 4 students went to Tamworth for a Writer’s Festival. We had a perform‐ance by the Bushwackers. First everyone went to John Heffernan’s workshop where we did some creative writing. The second man year 4 went to was Marco Glirori who is a poet. We wrote a Steve Irwin version about a jaguar. Last of all year 4 went to Michael Wagner where we learnt about how to write with a protagonist and antagonist. It was a fun day.” Emma Hawkins ‐ 4F “Last Thursday some students out of year 3 and year 4 travelled to Tamworth to attend the “Come Spin a Yarn” Writers Festival. While we were sitting down the Bushwackers performed “We Are Australian”. Then we went and saw John Heffernan who was very interesting and then we had lunch. Year 4 then went and saw Marco Glirori while year 3 saw Michael Wagner. After that was recess and we then saw Michael Wagner. After that they said thank you for coming and they told us about a special writing competition that Miss Fagan said we are going to go in. I was glad to be chosen to go. Thank you Miss Fagan, Mrs Baird and Trish for taking us, I really enjoyed it.” (Continued on page 3)
Lachlan Wright ‐ 4F ‐ “Last Thursday year 3 and 4 went to Tamworth for a writing workshop and we saw John Heffernan, Michael Wagner and Marco Glirori. The Bushwackers performed for us too. I think John Heffernan was the best of them all. I wish we got to go to Cartoon Dave. I was glad to be chosen for it, it was the best.” Alice Haire ‐ 4F ‐ “Last Thursday 15 students from years 3 and 4 went to Tamworth for the “Come Spin a Yarn” Writers
Festival. We had a performance by the Bushwackers Band and it was fantastic. We went to see the author, John
Heffernan then poet Marco Glirori. We lastly saw Michael Wagner and after a long day, came all the way home.”
The students who attended the workshop now have the opportunity to win an iPod if they participate in a competition to show what they learnt on the day. The writing task needs to be 500 words and entries close on October 12th.
