1:30 – 2:45pm U.S. ECONOMIC OUTLOOK: U.S. ECONOMIC GROWTH SAILS ON AMIDST

CHOPPY GLOBAL SEAS

The U.S. and its global trading partners are all riding a wave of global growth, leading them to grow above trend for the first time in years. This wave may have reached its peak, although we don’t foresee it crashing down on the beach just yet. For the U.S., while the economic expansion continues to strengthen, helped by fiscal stimulus in the form of Federal spending and tax cuts, it is tempered by policy risks both in the U.S. and abroad. Despite the private sector’s continued ability to spend, shifting economic tides are keeping the Fed on it toes. Against this backdrop, the overall economic conditions may be giving different signals for companies, consumers, and other key stakeholders to navigate. Key topics will include: where are we in the business cycle, the impact of trade wars, U.S. twin deficits, Federal Reserve monetary policy amidst the economic expansion, and long-term economic growth concerns.

• Beth Ann Bovino, Chief U.S. Economist, Managing Director, S&P Global Ratings
