VOYAGER NEWS

A NOTE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER… The season is in full swing, and once again, I’ve enjoyed seeing your smiling faces and being able to meet with several of you each morning in the boardroom. I sincerely appreciate all your compliments to our staff

and to the work we have done over the past two years to make Voyager the best it can possibly be. January and February were even busier than last year, which is saying a lot!!! Out of 35 Arizona resorts, we had the most resident referrals for new RVers last year - and we are currently leading again this year! That’s a great stat, since it is ALL driven by you, our residents and guests…so a BIG THANK YOU to all of you who have brought in family and friends. Our Early Bird Reservation period runs until March 31. If you want to keep the same site you had this season, be sure to book and place a deposit on the site before March 15 – otherwise it goes to first come first served. As Easter comes early this year, on March 27, I know several of you will be leaving to be with family for the holiday. Before you go, please come Registration to update summer contact information in case we should need to contact you. Lastly, I’d like to thank those that made it out for the February Manager’s Ride to Gates Pass and San Xavier Mission. We will be doing a March Ride to River Bottom Saloon in Florence for lunch. It will be a bit longer than the first ride, but it’ll give you a chance to stretch it out a bit. I’ll have more details when we finalize the ride. If you’re leaving in March, have a great summer and THANK YOU for continuing to make Voyager your home away from home! For those of you staying into April and May, I’ll see you around the resort. Regards, Rick

PAYING IT FORWARD A car drove up to the drive-through window at a McDonald’s to pick up an order. The driver asked “How much?” The reply was “Nothing. The guy in front of you paid for it.” So the man in the car said “Okay. I’ll pay for the next guy behind me.” And so it went. For over a half hour no one paid for their own order. The next driver always paid it forward for the next one coming after him. It happens that way periodically, often at thruway toll booths. Someone pays it forward for the next vehicle. Or a gift of flowers arrives at someone’s doorstep just at a moment of great need, but the giver chooses to remain anonymous. Such generosity sometimes has a note that says only that someone was good to the anonymous giver, so he or she decided to pass it on. Paying it forward means undertaking someone else’s debt, usually a small thing like a food order. However, I know that sometimes a mortgage payment is made, or a phone bill mysteriously is taken care of just because someone is generous. When you get right down to it, the greatest act of paying it forward comes at the end of this month when we celebrate Easter. That holiday reminds us that Jesus went to the cross to take upon himself the sin debt of the world. In the words of an old liturgy, “He made there, by the one offering of himself, a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the world.” That is paying it forward for you and for me. God cares enough for you and me to send Jesus to die on our behalf. And Easter tells us that his death wasn’t the end of the story. That comes three days later when he was raised from the dead. It was the greatest gift ever, an act of paying forward that resounds to this day and this place. That is good news indeed. See you in church Ray W. Burgess, Chaplain

If you are or know of someone in need, give us a call! Neighbor to Neighbor is a group of about

75 terrific volunteers who help individuals in our Voyager community. We match someone who has a need with someone who is able to meet that need. If you are interested in becoming a Neighbor to Neighbor volunteer, pick up an application in the Activity Office. Call Sue Pierce at 574-6700 for more info.

Are you living alone, ill, injured, or fragile and would appreciate a FREE daily check for health and safety? If the answer is yes, the

Community Cares Program can meet that need. As a participant, you are given a set of cards illustrating days of the week. It will be your responsibility to be certain the correct day is displayed in your window before 10 each morning. Volunteers will check each day. If correct, they will continue on their way. If not, you will receive a knock on your door, a phone call, or other instructions to confirm your health or safety is not in danger.

THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH by Sharon Surhoff

Ted 30, married to Linda, tourist on vacation Linda 30, married to Ted, tourist on vacation Guide 75, male or female, retired, loves history Time: now Place: St. Augustine, Florida, Fountain of Youth archaeological park Set: a table with a pitcher of water, paper cups (GUIDE explaining facility, pointing to various features) (TED and LINDA listen and follow GUIDE’S talk) Guide: (pointing to floor) Over here is a native Christian burial site. We have unearthed the bones of Timucua Indians who were converted by the early Spanish explorers... Linda: (looking) Oh my!...Entire skeletons laid out perfectly. Guide: Yes, that’s how we know these were converts, buried peaceably, not from violent battles. Ted: How long ago was this? Guide: Ponce de Leon claimed this area for Spain in 1513...almost 500 years ago...In fact, next year we’ll have a major celebration...You should come back... Linda: (points towards “burial area”) Why are the burials here, in this spot? Guide: This was the Spanish Mission...Artifacts were discovered in 1904 by the owner, Dr. McConnell, who had recently purchased it. Ted: Artifacts?...Like what? Guide: A cross and a silver salt cellar...They’re on display in the exhibit out front. Ted: And the Fountain? Guide: The Fountain of Youth has flowed here for as long as anyone can remember...The Timucuan Indians depict it in their ancient drawings... Did you drink from it yet? Linda: Not yet...How does it taste? Guide: (picks up pitcher) It tastes okay...A bit of sulphur smell...But maybe that’s why it works. Ted: (surprised) It does?...I thought it was a touristy thing. Guide: (pouring from pitcher into paper cup) Oh no...It definitely works (offers drink to Linda)...Here, try it. Linda: (takes cup and sniffs it) Ack!...Smells pretty horrid! Guide: Drink it all at once...It’s not bad once past your nose. Ted: (looks at GUIDE curiously) Did you try it? Guide: (sagely) Oh no...Too late for me...I’ve got too many years to be considered young. Linda: (holds up cup) Well...Down the hatch! (drinks)...pause, hand to head)...I feel faint...(drops dead onto the floor) Ted: (kneels by Linda’s side, patting her hand) Linda!...Linda!...Speak to me! Guide: (looks impassively at TED and LINDA) Three today! Ted: (anguished) What do you mean? Guide: (sagely) No one is satisfied with what they have...I’m too late for youth but satisfied with where I am. I’ve seen it all ... Ted: But this is the Fountain of Youth...Youth is to be restored...The clock turned back... Guide: You can never turn back the clock...You can only stop it...This is The Fountain of Never Getting Older...Your wife is as young as she will ever be.
