Major changes in Minnesota’s teacher licensure system come into effect in January 2018. The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) replaces the Board of Teaching.
PELSB will oversee teacher licensing, teacher preparation, and teacher ethics. One of PELSB’s major responsibilities in 2018 is to adopt rules related to Minnesota’s new four-tier teacher licensing system, which comes into effect on July 1, 2018. MSBA is closely involved as a stakeholder organization in this rule-making process.
For additional information regarding the PELSB and the changes to Minnesota’s teacher licensure system, please refer to “Reminder of Educator Licensing Transition” from December 28, 2017, edition of “MDE’s Weekly Superintendent Mail” at https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MNMDE/bulletins/1cf45e3.
