Norse Mythology: Freya
Freya (also spelt Freyja in Old Norse) means ‘The Lady’ or ‘Fair
One’. She is the is the goddess of love, beauty, childbirth, war
and death in Norse mythology. She was well known for being
beautiful and took pride in this. She also owned lots of
jewellery and other precious jewels.
The Vikings believed that part female creatures called
Valkyries would choose those who may die in battle and
those who may live. As the Goddess of war, Freya was
entitled to receive the souls of half of the fallen warriors in
battle.
