Our intimate wood-panelled dining room is just one of our perfect settings for your ceremony, with its ornate coffered ceiling, feature fireplace and natural light, it’s a wonderful place to say “I do”.

Celebrate in our unique ceremony and chapel areasEllingham Hall has a variety of exceptional spaces to entertain you and your guests. The main focal point for your dining and evening entertainment is our lovingly converted high-ceilinged historic chapel.

The chapel provides a well-lit and spacious room that can seat 140 people for a meal and hold 180 revellers for evening wedding receptions. Ellingham also has a dining room, lounge and entrance hall, plus outdoor seating areas, so there are plenty of spaces to use as quiet spots for those who wish to relax while others enjoy the festivities.

Food & drinkWe can cater for your every need. Our executive head chef, Chris Allison, has been head chef at some of the region’s most exclusive restaurants, including Fisherman’s Lodge, Treacle Moon, and Baltic’s rooftop restaurant, Six.

Chris and our highly experienced and talented in-house team will create fantastic food and fabulous flavours, with a flexible approach to the menu.

As well as providing sumptuous sit-down meals for wedding breakfasts, we can provide canapés, buffets, barbeques, and everything you need the morning after from continental to full English breakfasts.

Indulgent Bridal Suite At Ellingham Hall we have not one, but two Bridal Suites for you to choose from. Our main Bridal Suite is located on the top floor and is a beautiful large room with a super king size bed, seating area, and two person shower. It also has its very own private roof terrace with hot tub which is a perfect way for you both to end your big day. If you fancy something more traditional our Gothic Room contains a four poster bed, separate dressing room and roll top bath for you to have a relaxing soak before all the excitement begins. This room is lovely and large giving plenty of space for brides or grooms to get ready in along with all their helpers!

Accommodation Ellingham Hall offers outstanding accommodation for you and your guests. The hall’s 18 bedrooms bring together historic elegance with modern luxury to give you everything you need to relax and unwind.

Within the grounds of the hall we also have 9 cottages, which provide the perfect opportunity for your guests to stay on-site. This not only means that you can have a truly private event, but also allows your guests to have somewhere to get ready before, and wind down after the wedding.

All of the cottages provide a home away from home, mixing the modern comforts your guests will need with old-fashioned charm. Features include AGA or cast iron range cookers, marble bathrooms, oak floors, and large screen televisions.

CottagesOur luxury cottages have two or three bedrooms, each sleeping between four and six people depending on the size. They are well equipped and fitted out to a very high standard with everything you need for a comfortable, luxurious and relaxing stay. Features include oak floors, marbled bathrooms, large screen televisions and AGA or range cookers.

Perfect for romantic getaways, breaks with friends or family holidays, our cottages are available all year round for short breaks, full weeks or longer if you wish.

Ellingham is perfectly placed for you to explore the beautiful county of Northumberland with attractions such as Alnwick Gardens & Castle, Holy Island and Cragside. Ellingham is also within easy driving distance of the miles of quiet and golden sands of the Northumberland coast with its rockpools, ruined castles and quaint seaside towns.

With our optional 18 bedrooms and beautiful private grounds, you’ll have everything you need to relax, kick back and enjoy yourselves in complete privacy.

History The village of Ellingham is in the north east of Northumberland, and was once the centre point of an ancient barony that stretched from the Scottish Borders to Jesmond in Newcastle-Upon Tyne. This barony belonged to the family of Grenville during the reign of Henry I. There are records of an early building on the site of Ellingham Hall, however it wasn’t until the 19th Century that the structure you can recognise today came into existence. This Hall was built by and became the home of Sir John Haggerston Bart. Later, Edward Haggerston and his wife Mary, upon residence, further enlarged it.

Since then the Hall has had a number of unusual uses. During the Second World War the land girls dug over what were the tennis courts to provide food, and the reception rooms and Chapel were used as a storage base for tea and flour.

The next change came with a Preparatory School for boys aged 5 to 18 in 1955 where lessons were taught in the front rooms, and the boys slept in dormitories on the top floor. The school ran until 1988 when the Hall was bought by two property developers who planned to turn it into eight flats. However these plans fell through and the Hall stood empty and was subjected to vandalism and theft for several years.

Being left open to the elements the Hall began to decay, lead was stripped from the roof, cast iron baths were thrown from the second floor windows into the arms of scrap dealers, and much of the beautiful Victorian masonry was destroyed. However in 1995, the Hall was bought by its current owners who spent the next ten years restoring and renovating the building to its former glory, and it stands today as a testament to great British workmanship over the centuries.
