W hen I first meet with a couple, I don't see them the way other people might.

Some might think it's strange, to see them as 90 year olds . . . retired,

sitting on the porch, sipping coffee in the late afternoon shade. But I do. I see all of

the journeys they had along the way. The children, the birthdays and anniversaries,

the graduations, the grandchildren.

It may sound crazy, but this is my lens. Family. Posterity. The long-haul-kind-of-love.

The kind of love that brings out the very best in the other person, even when they

can't quite find it themselves. The kind of love that holds your hand when you're

nervous or afraid. The kind of love that makes you laugh when you think you will

never laugh again. The kind of love that doesn't fade with time.

eI capture images that are timeless. They are created with the

deepest appreciation for all of your tomorrows. Your wedding

day isn't a single moment, isolated in time, but a beginning to

a long and beautiful adventure. The two of you, completely

different in a million ways and each carrying your own faults,

have found in one another a beautiful place to call home.

Your wedding day will go by so fast. You will spend countless

hours planning it and fretting over the details, then you blink

and it’s over. And while the details are an important part of

your day, so are the people and the moments and the memo-

ries. At it’s heart, my work is about just that .

It is about the way his hand finds the small of your back

whenever you are standing side by side. It is about the way

she peers up at you in adoration without you even being

aware. It is about the raw emotion on your parents’ faces as

they witness the beginning of what will become your own

family. And the way your grandparents quietly watch every

preparation, beaming with pride. It is about a celebration of

your love with family and friends. But mostly, my work is

about telling stories . In particular, love stories.

And it is my honor to witness the first chapter of what is to be

an incredible story.

The words most often used to describe my work are romantic, intimate

and authentic, full of emotion. I derive inspiration from so many differ-

ent places. Not only through other works of photography, but through

literature + paintings + sculpture + cinematography + music + stories…

And while I love the raw emotion of photojournalism and the seductive,

mysterious look of editorial photography, I also adore the airy lightness

of fine art work. I believe in romantic lighting, incredible backgrounds

and choosing locations very carefully. As far as my approach - I never

want to interrupt a moment and pose those situations that are already

so magical on their own. I prefer to listen, watch...quietly waiting for the

story to reveal itself. For the majority of the day, my goal is to be on the

sidelines, anticipating those fleeting moments. Though if necessary, I

am not afraid to shake things up a bit for better lighting or angles.

S O M E T H I N G Y O U D O ? Of course, there is always room for

traditional portraiture at most weddings. Photographs with the bridal

party and bride + groom are designed to be very loose and fun, to show

off your personality. However, I recognize that even the most modern

brides still want the heirlooms that family portraiture creates. We will

typically spend about 20 to 45 minutes on posed photographs during a

typical 8-10 hour day.

However, for the majority of my wedding work, I am 100 percent digital.

The creative latitude that digital gives is beyond compare. When I shoot,

I not only shoot for the moment, but have a clear vision of what the

finished image will look like. By shooting digitally, the possibilities are

limitless. That being said, I do usually bring some film along to each

wedding and photograph with it if time allows.

0 5 . D O Y O U H A V E A B A C K U P P L A N ? Of course! In fact,

I have several.

0 6 . W H A T A R E Y O U R T H O U G H T S O N A F I R S T

L O O K ? I highly recommend including one on your wedding day. One

of the biggest objections to having a first look is because the emotional

impact of the traditional moment you see each other for the first time

seems to feel grander. However, I have found throughout all of the

weddings I have photographed, that the opposite is true. The traditional

first look is generally filled with so much pressure, that an intimate

moment shared only between you and your love tends to bring out a

much broader range of emotions. Plus, choosing a first look enables you

to spend more time together on your wedding day, it allows us to create

a smoother timeline and as a result, you are more calm and relaxed, fully

able to enjoy your day. And you are able to get to your cocktail hour and

reception much sooner. But mostly, having a first look, allows us the

time and gorgeous lighting that we need to create the beautiful and

romantic images that are reflective of your wedding day.
