Celebrant : May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

All : Amen.

love today. May their lives always bear witness to the reality of that love.

We ask you this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

All : Amen. LITURGY OF THE WORD [Please be seated]The Liturgy of the word consists of readings from the Scripture. When the Gospel is proclaimed, the congregation stands, out of respect for the Word, which is proclaimed to recall the story of God’s love for us.

First Reading A reading from the book of GenesisThey become one body. And they will be two in one flesh. (2:18-24)

The Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helpmate.” So from the soil the Lord God fashioned all the wild beasts and all the birds of heaven. These he brought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of heaven and all the wild beasts.

But no helpmate suitable for man was found for him. So the Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep. And while he slept, he took one of his ribs and enclosed it in flesh. The Lord God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man. The man exclaimed:

Page 4: Wedding Mass Booklet

“This at last is bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh! This is to be called woman, for this was taken from man.”

This is why a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body.

The word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm (Ps.33:2-9. R.v.2; Alt.R.v.9)

Response: Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

1. I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on my lips;in the Lord my soul shall make its boast. The humble shall hear and be glad.

2. Glorify the Lord with me.Together let us praise his name.I sought the Lord and he answered me;from all my terrors he set me free.

3. Look towards him and be radiant;let your faces not be abashed. This poor man called; the Lord heard himand rescued him from all his distress.

4. The angel of the Lord is encampedaround those who revere him, to rescue them.Taste and see that the Lord is goodHe is happy who seeks refuge in him.

Second Reading A reading from the first letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians If I am wihout love, it will do me no good whatever. (12:31 – 13:8)

Page 5: Wedding Mass Booklet

Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show you a way that is better than any of them.

If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the gift of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are, and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its fullness, to move mountains, but without love, then I am nothing at all. If I give away all that I possess, piece by piece, and if I even let them take my body to burn it, but am without love, it will do me no good whatever.Love is always patient and kind; It is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

Love does not come to an end. The word of the Lord.

All : Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation[Please stand]

Page 6: Wedding Mass Booklet

God’s Word; On our lips – that we may echo God’s Word; and On our hearts – that the Word of God may dwell there.

Celebrant : The Lord be with you.

All : And also with you.

Celebrant : A reading from the Holy Gospel according to JohnWhat I command you is to love one another.

(15:12-16)

All : Glory to you, O Lord. Jesus said to his disciples: “This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. A man can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know his master’s business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father. You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; and then the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

All : Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Preface

Celebrant : Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well, always and everywhere to give you thanks. By this sacrament, your grace unites man and woman in an unbreakable bond of love and peace.

You have designed the chaste love of husband and wife for the increase both of the human family and of your own family born in baptism.

You are the loving Father of the world of nature; you are the loving Father of the new creation of grace. In Christian marriage, you bring together the two orders of creation: nature’s gift of children enriches the world and Your grace enriches also Your Church.

Through Christ the choirs of angels and all the saints praise and worship your glory. May our voices blend with theirs as we join in their unending hymn:

All : Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,

God of power and might, Heaven and earth Are full of your glory, Hosanna in the Highest Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LordHosanna in the highest!

Eucharistic Prayer II[Please kneel; non-Catholics may be seated]

Celebrant : Lord, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness.

Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body + and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Before He was given up to death, a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave You thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you.

When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to His disciples and said:

Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all men so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.

Memorial Acclamation [Please stand]

Celebrant : Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.

All : Dying you destroyed our death, Rising you restored our life, Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Memorial Prayer

Page 14: Wedding Mass Booklet

Celebrant : In memory of His death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life giving bread, this saving cup. We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you. May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.

Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with Benedict our Pope, Nicholas our bishop and all the clergy.

Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence.

Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin mother of God, with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.

Doxology of the Eucharistic PrayerAmen is the acknowledgment of what is being said. It can be

translated into “I believe it”.

Celebrant : Through him, with him, in him in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honour is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.

All : Amen! Amen!

COMMUNION RITETo prepare for the paschal meal, to welcome the Lord, we pray for forgiveness and exchange a sign of peace. Before eating Christ’s

Page 15: Wedding Mass Booklet

body and drinking his blood, we must be one with him and with all our brothers and sister in the Church.

Celebrant : Let us pray with confidence to the Father in the words our Saviour gave us:

All : Our Father in heaven, holy be Your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth, as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not bring us to the test, but deliver us from evil.

Nuptial Blessings [Couple will kneel. Please remain standing]

Celebrant : My dear friends, let us turn to the Lord and pray that He will bless with His grace Caroline now married in Christ to Shawn and that (through the sacrament of the body and blood of Christ, he will unite in love the couple He has joined in this holy bond.

Father, by Your power You have made everything out of nothing. In the beginning you created the universe and made mankind in Your own likeness. You gave man the constant help of woman so that man and woman should no longer be two, but one flesh, and you teach us that what you have united may never be divided.

Father, you have made the union of man and wife so holy a mystery that it symbolizes the marriage of Christ and His Church. Father, by your plan man and woman are united, and married life has been established as the one blessing that was not forfeited by original sin or washed away in the flood.

Page 16: Wedding Mass Booklet

Look with love upon this woman your daughter, now joined to her husband, in marriage. She asks your blessing. Give her the grace of love and peace. May she always follow the example of the holy women whose praises are sung in the scriptures.

May her husband put his trust in her and recognize that she is his equal and the heir with him to the life of grace. May he always honour her and love her as Christ loves His bride, the Church.

Father, keep them always true to your commandments. Keep them faithful in marriage and let them be living examples of Christian life. Give them the strength which comes from the gospel so that they may be witnesses of Christ to others. (Bless them with children and help them to be good parents. May they live to see their children’s children.) And, after a happy old age, grant them fullness of life with the saints in the kingdom of heaven.

(We ask this) through Christ our Lord.

All : Amen.

Sign Of PeaceThe Church is a community of Christians joined by the Spirit in love. It needs to express, deepen, and restore its peaceful unity before eating the one Body of the Lord and drinking from the one cup of salvation. We do this by a sign of peace.

Celebrant : Lord Jesus Christ, You said to your apostles:

I leave you peace, my peace I give you. Look not on our sins but on the faith of your Church,

Page 17: Wedding Mass Booklet

and grant us the peace and unity of your kingdom where you live forever and ever.

All : Amen.

Celebrant : The peace of the Lord be with you always.

All : And also with you.

Celebrant : Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

[The sign of peace is exchanged with handshake or bow]

Breaking Of BreadChristians are gathered for the “breaking of the bread”, another name for the Mass. In communion, though many we are made one body in the one bread, which of Christ.
