ABOUT WEDA

WEDA GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The Western Dredging Association (WEDA) region covers North, Central, and South America; the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) covers most of Europe, Africa, the Mid and Near East; and the Eastern Dredging Association (EADA) covers the Far East and Pacific region. These three organizations constitute the World Organization of Dredging Associations (WODA) with equal representation on the Board of Directors of WODA. The goals and objectives are common for each of the three organizations; however, operations to attain these are carried out independently.

To promote the exchange of knowledge in fields related to dredging, navigation, marine engineering, and construction by sponsoring or co-sponsoring national and international technical conferences, seminars, exhibitions, seminars, and symposiums, including publication and dissemination of the proceedings. To provide a forum for improvement of communications, technology transfer, and cooperation among associations, societies and all organizations interested in dredging, navigation, marine engineering, and construction. To emphasize the importance of understanding and development of solutions for problems related to the protection and enhancement of the marine environment. To encourage educational institutions to initiate programs and courses to prepare students for employment in the dredging, navigation, and marine engineering fields. To support educational institutions for students interested in pursuing dredging and marine engineering as a career. To promote membership in and furtherance of the Western Dredging Association through the establishment and support of chapters. To recognize individuals and organizations for outstanding engineering and operational achievements.

Committedto the Coast

The Magdalen, Weeks Marine’s (Weeks) new hopper dredge, arrived on the New Jersey Shore where the need is a pronounced. There are months of work ahead for the ship, her crew of Masters, Mates and Pilots, and IUOE Local 25’s operators on the beach.

Superstorm Sandy left New Jersey with dangerously eroded beaches. The infamous storm caused particularly serious and costly damage to towns that did not have a protective dune. Today, the U.S. Corps of Engineers and its partners in the State are determined not to leave these communities vulnerable to future catastrophic damage. T o ensure this outcome, an engineered dune is always in the specifications.

The Magdalen was built by American workers at Eastern Shipbuilding in Panama City, Florida. In a company with considerable capital assets, the Magdalen is largest single investment in Weeks’ 99-year history. And there is more to come. Under construction today at C&C Marine in Belle Chase, LA, is the advanced, ocean-going cutter suction dredge JS Chatry.

Weeks Marine is a fully integrated dredging and marine construction company. Weeks is a leader in the maritime construction industry, and operates a network of regional offices, construction, tunneling, and aggregate companies in New Jersey, Louisiana, Texas, Hawaii, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
