PRELUDE "Pastorale" from Seven Sketches P. Whitlock
Ted Cronbaugh, organ
WELCOME & COMMUNITY LIFE Rev. Ed Zumwinkel III
All are encouraged to sign and pass the Friendship Pads at the ends of the pews. As the music begins, let us use this time for
quiet reflection and prayer, so that we, individually and as a great crowd of witnesses, may prepare ourselves to reaffirm our
faith as the people of God.
GATHERING FOR GOD’S WORD
CALL TO WORSHIP Carina Dickie
Leader: When Jesus speaks, our hearts burn within us;
People: our eyes are opened when he breaks the bread.
Leader: Beloved, we are God’s children now;
People: when Christ is revealed, we will be like him.
Leader: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain.
People: Blessing and honor and glory to God!
HYMN 301 “Let Us Build a House” TWO OAKS
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
All: Almighty God,
our world is filled with corruption:
power disguises itself as truth;
convenience masquerades as goodness;
selfish pleasure imitates love.
We confess to you, O God,
that we have been caught in the web of the world’s sin.
By the power of the Holy Spirit,
save us from these deceptions and free us for glad obedience,
that we may see the joy of Jesus’ resurrection
and receive the promise of everlasting life. Amen.

A WORD OF WELCOME
THE CHANCEL FLOWERS are given to the Glory of God and in memory of loved ones, the gift of Brad
and Debbie Goss.
CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS WELCOME IN WORSHIP AT WGPC! Worship Activity Bags are located at
each entrance to the Sanctuary. Children will also be invited to come forward during worship to have a
scripture conversation with the pastor.
NURSERY CARE While some children prefer to stay with their parents in worship, others enjoy the
opportunity to meet new friends, play and learn stories from the Bible. Miss Robin is ready to greet
your child with a happy smile, a warm hug, and a generous spirit. The nursery is open from 8:15 a.m. to
12:00 p.m.. If there are no children in the nursery by 11:30 a.m., the nursery room will remain open for
parents and children to enjoy together. There will be no nursery attendants on duty.
LARGE-PRINT BULLETINS AND HYMNALS, hearing devices, and cushions are also available. One of
our ushers would be happy to assist you.
WATER AND LOZENGES Got a tickle in your throat? Relax. Just head to the Narthex (back of the

OUR UPCOMING COMMUNITY LIFE TOGETHER
WE WELCOME TODAY REVEREND MIRIAM FOLTZ, OUR GUEST PASTOR -- Rev. Miriam Foltz is Pastor of
UKirk - St. Louis, the Presbyterian Campus Ministry at Washington University and St. Louis University. UKirk, or "university
church," gathers on Sunday evenings for dinner & worship at Trinity Presbyterian and also for mid-week, on-campus Bible
study gatherings, fellowship events, and more. While officially serving these two campuses, UKirk is a community that strives
to support students around St. Louis - including welcoming college students from other area schools and supporting students
from St. Louis who go to school elsewhere. There are events and conference opportunities during winter & summer breaks.
Pastor Foltz lives in the Central West End with her husband, Steven, and two cats, Lewis & Clark.
SPECIAL DISCERNMENT MEETING There will be a meeting immediately following the 10:30 a.m. worship service
TODAY in Fellowship Hall.
ST. LOUIS METRO SINGERS, under the direction of Shawn Portell, invite you to their first performance of the season today,
September 30th, at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church, 14820 Conway Road, Chesterfield, MO 63017. Concert is at 4:00 p.m. and
will feature sacred music and movie themes. The concert is free and open to the public.
CHILDREN'S OFFERING - CHICKENS!! Collected at Children's Scripture Conversation - 10:30 a.m.service Our goal is to collect $25 for a family of chickens! Chickens provide eggs for food, feathers for pillows and fertilizer for crops.
By giving a family of chickens, we can help improve the food security and livelihoods of farmers and families around the world.
How many families can we support with the gift of chickens?
PLEASE JOIN THE DISCIPLES BIBLE STUDY GROUP for our Fall book study and get together. We are reading
Marcus Borg’s Reading the Bible Again For the First Time and the PCUSA’s Book of Confessions. We’ll meet in the church
Parlor on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. for discussion and fellowship. For more information or if you have questions, please contact
Diane McCullough (314-773-4195 or [email protected]).
A MESSAGE FROM ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP With water our theme, we continue to be concerned about the
blob of plastic twice the size of Texas floating in the Pacific. Good news! A 24- year old from the Netherlands has designed a
long tube that he thinks will reduce the blob in half within five years. The long pipe-like feature is experimenting with the wilds
of ocean turbulence to determine if it will structurally hold together. Go, Netherlands!
MUSIC IN A GREAT PLACE – October 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in our Sanctuary. The Regional Arts Council and the African
Musical Arts Inc. will present “Song Traditions of Africa”. Concert will feature guest artists G. Foli Alorwoyie, the legendary
Agbazda drummer from Ghana, and the Trinity Ancestral Dancers from Chicago, performing with the Songs of Africa
Ensemble of St. Louis. Concert will feature song traditions from Ghana and other regions of Africa. Even though this is a
ticketed event it is free to members of WGPC.
A NOTE FROM THE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE -- The Environmental Stewardship is
organizing a tour of the Jan Phillips Learning Center on October 20th. Anyone interested in visiting this Living
Building Challenge is invited to meet at the church parking lot to leave at 9:00.
An interesting article gave some do's and don't for flushing down the toilet.
DON'T flush the following:
Disposable wipes even when saying "flushable" contain rayon.
Dental floss tends to wrap around things and form a wad.
Contact lenses do not biodegrade easily and make way to surface water.
Tampons material and string do not break down easily.
Medications are not filtered out in treatment centers.
Kitty litter is an absorbent designed to expand 60,000 times its volumn.
Facial tissue, paper towels, and swabs unlike toilet paper have a chemical binding that takes time to
break up and stays intact.
The motto should read, "When in doubt, throw it out." Follow this simple rule: If it is not human waste or
toilet paper, don't flush it.
