FAITH MOMENT REFLECTION

It's easy to forget that there is a difference between empathy and sympathy. The scripture

readings today help us understand the difference. Sympathy tends to foster pity for

others in need, whereas when we empathize with others, we seek to understand their

experiences and get involved to help. The widow in the first reading had empathy for

Elijah and gave him the last of her food and drink. In the scripture from the Book of

Mark, the poor widow had empathy for others and gave away what little money she had.

Next time you are in a situation where you sympathize with someone, see if you can

empathize instead. Try to identify with their needs and determine what you can do to

help, even it if means a little sacrifice on your part. We can look to Jesus as the ultimate

example of empathy, giving all He had so that we may have eternal happiness in heaven.

ST. PADRE PIO HEALING MASS

Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6:00 pm.

Always after the Healing Mass there will be

exposition of the Most Holy Sacrament, the

Divine Mercy Chaplet and adoration for a 1/2

hour.

Please consider honoring your loved one(s) or a special event

with a memorial bookplate to be placed in our new Missals.

To sponsor the purchase of these new Missals, you may fill

out a form (at the back of church) and return it to the Office

with a $20 offering. Please note: the deadline for accepting

memorial bookplates is Sunday, Novem-

ber 18. They may be placed in the collec-

We need to order the bookplates soon.
