Partner center oVerVIeW

What is Partner center? The Symantec Partner Center web portal makes it easy for Channel Partners to manage the Symantec website security products in their portfolio. Created exclusively for members of the Symantec Website Security Partner Program, the portal gives you access to a variety of administrative tools and resources for purchasing and ordering SSL certificates, communicating with your customers, reporting, and managing your company’s account with Symantec. You can also access a number of support channels if you require assistance with the issuance of your customers’ certificates or have any other support issues. The “Help/Support Documentation” channel located in “Support” offers a wealth of information to answer your questions.

note: Partner Center content is offered in 15 popular languages, with your options available in the lower left navigation panel.

Symantec Website Security PortfolioSymantec Website Security Solutions portfolio includes industry leading brands such as Symantec, GeoTrust, and Thawte. Each brand has its own Product Lifecycle Portal. The portal functionality is the same for each brand, and the information in this guide is applicable to all three portals.

Once you create a user name and password and log in, you’ll be presented with the “SSL Certificates” page and gain full access to the portal’s certificate lifecycle management capabilities.

tHe Home PaGe

SSL certificates.Upon login, you’ll arrive by default at the “Symantec SSL” tab on the Partner Center home page. The left column displays your user name and has navigation links to functions for ordering certificates, establishing new contracts, running reports on your orders, customizing emails, and managing your account information. Additionally, there is a link to an end-user portal for your customers and a link to a page offering a variety of support options.

resource center and message center.Across the top of the home page, you’ll find two other tabs. Click on the “Resource Center” tab to access tools and information to help you sell SSL certificates and support your customers. The “Message Center” tab displays any messages you may have received from Symantec.

Updating information about your account.Under “Account” in the left navigation column, you’ll find links to pages where you can:

• Set up and update credit card payment information for certificate purchases

• Input and change your organization’s account profile and communications preferences

• Create and update billing and business contact information for your accounts

• Change your password

• Add new users from your company to your account

eStaBLISHInG contractS

Block or Pay-as-you-Go.Click on the “Establish New Contract” link in the left column and you’ll be presented with two buying options: Purchase a block of SSL certificates on a bulk basis or set up a Pay-As-You-Go contract for your purchases and make arrangements to pay via purchase order or credit card. Regardless of the contract option or payment method, you will benefit from the latest partner pricing.

Bulk purchase.Click on “Purchase a Block of Symantec Certificates.” Use this option to purchase blocks of certificates at a discounted partner rate. To purchase additional blocks, select the product and quantity to purchase, fill out the online enrollment form, check off the Certificate Reseller Agreement, and submit the form. You’ll go to a page where you can confirm your bulk purchase. When paying via credit card, Symantec will immediately credit your account with the additional products and make them available for resale. When paying via purchase order, please contact your sales account manager upon submitting the order to arrange approval of the contract.

Pay-as-you-Go.Click on “Establish a New Pay-As-You-Go Contract for Symantec Certificates.” This option is used to create a new Pay-As-You-Go contract or renew an existing one with the latest partner pricing. If you have an existing contract on file, your older Pay-As-You-Go contracts will be expired so you will only have one contract active. If you are moving from a Bulk contract to Pay-As-You-Go, you must update your credit card and billing information in the “Account” section of Partner Center. Review the contract enrollment form, check off the Certificate Reseller Agreement, and click “Submit.” You’ll be directed to a page where you can confirm your new contract.

certIFIcate manaGement

Viewing your contracts.After your contracts are confirmed and active, you can view them and begin the process of ordering certificates by clicking on “Order Certificates” in the left column. All existing Pay-As-You-Go and Bulk contracts that are in place for your account will be displayed. To place an order directly, select “Place Order” next to the desired product. Alternatively, you can select “Place Invite,” which allows you to initiate an order on your customer’s behalf and then send an email invitation for your customer to complete the order.

When placing a Pay-As-You-Go order, the registered credit card will be debited upon fulfillment. When placing an order against a Bulk contract, Symantec’s system will decrement the quantity of certificates and the remaining funds in your contract. Once the limit of either is reached or there is a credit amount less than the purchase price of a certificate, no additional certificates can be ordered. The dollar amount deducted is equivalent to your discounted partner purchase price.

When viewing your contracts, you have options to place an order or an invite, view the number of certificates you have ordered by product, view the dollar amount spent and the dollar balance of your contract, and view details for all orders placed against that particular contract.

Viewing your contracts.

Place order.Clicking on “Place Order” displays a page where you can complete the order information. These pages and the information required will vary depending on the type of product ordered. Fill out the order information, enter the CSR (Certificate Signing Request), and click “Continue” to verify your order and complete the process. Place Invite.By clicking on “Place Invite” you will be presented with a “Quick Invite” page where you can fill in order information and send it off in an email for your customer to complete, if necessary, and approve. “Quick Invite” pages will also vary depending on the type of product ordered.

confirming orders.After completing the information required in the ordering process, Partner Center will confirm your certificate request and provide an order number. You will receive a follow-up email with all the relevant information. And when the certificate has been issued, a verification email with links to useful tools and information will be sent to your designated contacts.

revoking certificates.Occasionally, you may need to revoke a certificate, for instance, in the case of nonpayment. To do so, click on “End User Portal” in the navigation panel and insert the required user authentication information. You’ll receive an email giving you access to a “Manage Order” page detailing the order status. In the left navigation sidebar, click on “Revoke Certificate.” Select the certificate(s) you wish to revoke, and click the “I Approve” button at the bottom of the page. The certificate will be revoked immediately.

renewing certificates.The process for renewing certificates follows a similar flow path as an initial order. Click on “Order Certificates” and you’ll be directed to the “Contracts” page. The center column (“Total Ordered”) will show you where you have active certificates. Click the “Place Order” link adjacent to the order(s) you wish to renew, and you will land on the “Secure Site” for the product in question. The second section on the page (“Renewal”) has a radio button “Renewal” option. Select the button and continue to complete your renewal order.

there are three requirements for an order to be a renewal:1. The new order has to be for the same product or an upgrade

(e.g. True Business ID to Secure Site)

2. The Common Name in the new order must be the same as in the expiring cert

3. The expiration date of the expiring cert must fall within a 90-day window of the current date

The system will always check this for every cert enrollment (whether or not the “Renewal” option was selected), and all three items above have to qualify. A “Renewal” order will add any additional time remaining from the expiring cert to the new one, and the renewal price will be charged.<<Previous 9 next>>


midterm upgrade orders.

Don’t want to wait until renewal time to upgrade your certificate? You can do so mid-term by selecting the Upgrade Order option. To place an upgrade, view the Order Information of the applicable order (via “Quick Search” from the main menu). Under the Upgrade Order section you will see the products available with an upgrade. When placing an order or invite, you will receive a new certificate discounted by the remaining funds on the current one.

San certificate orders.To reduce administrative complexity, you can easily set up SANs (Subject Alternative Names) that allow you to better identify and manage multiple domains covered by one SSL certificate. Go to “Order Certificates” on the SSL home page and when you arrive at “Contracts,” find your active contracts and click on “Place Order” next to the desired product. Fill out the order information, enter the CSR, and click “Continue.” You will be presented with a “Secure Additional Domains” form where you add uniquely designated SAN domains to your certificate order. Continue through the verification process to complete your order. Note: Number of SANs available varies by product.

Wildcard certificate orders.Wildcard certificates allow you to install just one SSL certificate to secure all servers within a given domain. Go to “Order Certificates” on the SSL home page and when you arrive at “Contracts” find your active contracts and click on “Place Order” next to the desired product. Fill out the order information, enter a Wildcard CSR, and click “Continue” to verify and complete your order.

30-day free trials.If your customers want to try before they buy, you can offer them a 30-day free trial. Go to “Order Certificates” on the SSL home page and when you arrive at “Contracts,” click on “Place Order” next to the desired product. Under “Validity Period” at the top of the page, click the “Free Trial” button and then “Continue” to verify and complete your order. Note: Free trials are available only for Symantec branded certificates, and GeoTrust True Business ID with EV.



competitive replacements.You can replace active certificates issued and identified by Symantec competitors, and take advantage of discount pricing and up to 12 free months to cover the duration of the certificate being replaced. Go to “Order Certificates” on the SSL home page and when you arrive at “Contracts,” click on “Place Order” next to the desired product. Under “Competitive Replacement” (the third section on the page), select the “Yes, I Have a Server Certificate from a Competitor” button and click “Continue” to verify and complete your order. Note: This option is not available with every product.

commUnIcatInG WItH yoUr cUStomerS

customize.Under “Customize” in the left navigation column, you will see two links: “Emails” and “Email Encoding.” The functions accessed through these links allow you to customize the email messages that are sent to customers for certificate enrollment and delivery announcements. On a product level, you can customize the subject line and text area for a variety of email messages that can be enabled and automatically sent out by Symantec’s system to your customers. There is also an option to disable selected emails if you wish to communicate with your customers directly through your own channel.



emails.The “Emails” link takes you to the “Edit Email Messages” page where you can customize administrative messages for your customers across all products and manage delivery settings. The messages cover a broad variety of topics such as order acknowledgements and renewal notices, and they can currently be delivered in 25 different languages (you will need to supply the text in the language you select; all the default text supplied by the system is in English).

editing.To customize a message, click the “View/Edit” button next to the message, type in your changes to the subject and message area, and then click “Update” at the bottom of the page. For instance, you might want to include a special promotion or upsell message. The email will then be updated with the text that you want. You can also send yourself a test message to make sure you’re satisfied with it.



encoding.The “Encoding” link takes you to the “Edit Email Encodings” page where you can select the proper language-dependent encodings for emails you wish to have sent to your customers.

rePortInG

reports.Clicking on “Reports” takes you to the “Certificate Reports” page where you can access links that enable you to run a variety of reports on all SSL certificates ordered through your account. All report types can be exported in XML, Excel, or CSV formats, and they can also be accessed directly from links in the left navigation column.



Summary.Click on “Summary” to reach the “Summary Activity Reports” page. Here you can create customized reports with summary data for all selected orders, including ordered and completed dates, current status, domain product type, and price. You can search for orders by product, status, or date range.

Detail.Click on “Detail” to reach the “Detailed Activity Report” page. Here you can get detailed information for selected orders, including full order information and certificate details. You can search on orders by product, status, or date range.



renewal.Click on “Renewal” to reach the “Renewals” page. Here you can get lists of orders that will be expiring in selected time frames and see certificate validity dates, renewal statuses, and domain names from which the certificates have been issued. You can also place a renewal order directly from this report by selecting “Renew Now” next to the eligible order.

alerts.By clicking on “Malware Scan Alerts,” you can check for failed malware scans and websites that are unavailable for malware scans.

By clicking on “Vulnerability Scan Alerts,” you can check for critical vulnerabilities and customer websites that are unavailable for vulnerability scanning.



USer manaGement

This feature is available for users who are enabled with the “Admin privilege.” Admins can manage user access to the Partner Center account as follows:

• Add/Deactivate/Edit account users

• Designate the Admin privilege to other users

• Reset the user lockout for too many failed login attempts

When adding a new user, the Admin will enter the name, e-mail address, and (optionally) their user name. An e-mail will be sent to the user to complete the signup, including creation of their password.



tHe enD-USer (cUStomer) PortaL

Your customers can get information about their orders in several languages at: https://products.websecurity.symantec.com/orders/orderinformation/authentication.do. Once they are authenticated, they will receive an email giving them access to a “Manage Order” page where they can:

• View the authentication status of the order

• View comments published by the Symantec support team

• Pick up the certificate (including the intermediate certificate if applicable)

• View the order and certificate details

• Reissue or revoke the certificate

• Resend order emails

• Get access to the Norton Secured Seal installation link

• View Malware Scan results and details

• Manage Vulnerability Assessment preferences

• Update their contact information and access a Knowledge Base
