Evaluating my Website

Adele Jackson

Page 2: Website evaluation

I was particularly happy with the rows of images I have chosen to include, using one image a number of times. This again matches the ‘repeated’ effect that is seen on the back and inner cover of the digipak, along with in relation to the editing on the video.

I cleverly used these rows of images much like dividers and to add interest to the pages, not wanting to include lots of different images as this would take away the impact of the ‘photograph’ page, contained an album of images of the band.

Breaking up the information in such a way again helps the page from looking to full and overwhelming but yet still keeping an exciting look.

The fonts used also throughout the site also seem appropriate and everything is clearly laid out. Only the necessary information has been included on the pages, being careful not to overwhelm the audience with to much information. The buttons are found to work as planned and everything runs as it should. I felt that my detailed planning helped efficiently in designing this site.

I chose to place the menu bar at the top of the screen believing that it is here it which it will be most visible. I felt that the headings made it clear what the pages included and also made the relevant page that they are one to highlight, again enhancing the structure and layout of the site.

The fonts used here relate well to the bands style and are consistent throughout the pages. As you can see I have used Capitals for logo, trying to recreate the bands logo as much as possible as i was unable to use the real logo due to the programme I used to develop my site.

As you can see, i have chosen to have seven pages overall, using the ones which I felt were necessary. If the band would be accessing this sight themselves i would have also added a page for ‘posts’ which would be written by them to update their fans, knowing that this is typical on most websites and that it is a good method of connecting with the audience further. However, other than this I feel I have included the most beneficial and important information, basing the websites content on new audiences in particular, using it as a method of ‘introducing’ the band.

About DelphicShown below is all the information I chose to include on the history of Delphic, not wanting to overload any new audiences with unnecessary information. I have included an explanation on Delphic’s style of music, where they originate from and some examples of their obvious success, such as some awards they have won and where they have played. I believe i have explained this well with the use of relevant language and have worked with the space i was given effectively.

I have also included a quotation spoken by the band members themselves, this is in an attempt to allow the audience to feel more of a connection with the band and get an insight into their personality, knowing that the band themselves will not be working with this website. This again shows where the band come from, spoken in their own words.

MusicThere are two pages dedicated to the music of the band, knowing that it is this in which is the most important in terms of advertising as it is their music and tours that will make them there money. I was also unable to fit all their music onto one page due to the little room you are given with the programme i was working with. However, i was able to fit Delphic’s four videos in effectively. I also chose to include the lyrics to these songs next to the videos to enable the audience to join in with the song and strengthen their enjoyment that they will grasp from the song. However, if i was given more room, i would have liked to make the lyrics to the songs a little bigger so they are more easy to read, along with the actual video itself.

If i was to complete this task again, using a different programme to enable me to have more room to do so, i would also like to include the songs which Delphic have not yet created a video to, as these still have the ability to connect with an audience and sell records.

PhotographyI felt that this page was slightly brief but effective in being so. Including a lot of pictures in this way I felt cleverly added some excitement and performance to the page, giving Delphic a lively and entertaining look. Again the more pictures included of the band mean the audience can feel they are getting to know them even further, seeing where they have been and what they look like. This is also done as a method of advertising by presenting such images of them, much like the aim for the whole of the website.

The comment box seen under these images will allow any of the audience to leave a comment, about anything they wish to. Whether it is a question they wish to ask, a comment about the website or about the band Delphic. I felt this was a good element to add to my website, meaning audiences can connect with one another, without restricting them from doing so.

Tour datesHere are the bands current tour dates, I made sure than these were reliable by looking on a number of sites to ensure that they all had the same ones. I feel that I have laid this information out clearly with the use of a table and have not missed out any information which would be needed. There is a button found at the bottom of this table saying ‘purchase tickets’ which links to Ticket master, saving time and effort for the audience in having to find some themselves. In seeing this link it is also more that they will purchase tickets as they are much more likely to consider it when seeing that they can book some now.

I also included a short explanation on how i will update this table as new tour dates are released, adding confidence to the audience about my websites reliability.

Contact informationI felt that this may be possibly the most beneficial page to the audience. It includes the bands record companies contact details, including their address and email. I have also added all of Delphic’s sites, such as their Facebook, Bebo and Myspace as seen below; finding that they do not currently have an individual site of their own. The reason this may be very helpful to the audience is due to the almost inability to find this information elsewhere on the internet, knowing how difficult i found it to find a way of contacting them myself during previous research. Again i feel this page is relevant, well laid out and appealing.

I also chose to include my own contact details, believing that i may be able to help with some of the questions fans may have, having learnt a lot of information on this band during the research for my Media video.

Although I am very happy with the final product here, there are still a few minor changes I

would wish to make if I were completing the site again. Firstly, I would make the background look more professional as at times it can be seen as pixelated. I would also wish to make a more obvious connection to my music video, such as making the background of the album I have created, rather than one of the bands previous ones. Similarly, I would include the video I had made to this website. However, in doing this i may have taken away the appeal from the site and its ability to attract new audiences.

But, I was pleased with my overall design, particular relating to its layout and style. I chose to use the colours orange and green to help portray an indie style feel, along with wanting to make the website look exciting and different from most websites around this genre; finding that they tended to stick to black and whites during my research. The buttons and structure of the site were also good, making it clear to navigate around and find where you wanted to go, again helped by the menu bar at the top. I felt that all the right information was included, failing to miss anything that would be important or influential to the bands sales.
