The Hives – Website analysis

The Hives’ official website has been modelled as a broadcasting service, as a central base for their fans to research the band and find out various bits of

information.

This screenshot was taken from the ‘Gigs’ area on The Hives’ website. The page shows the audience upcoming gigs, and the details for them, and also contains embedded links for people to watch The Hives’ recent live performances on YouTube, something not a lot of bands do.

The following screenshots were taken on the website to show the physical interactive features, and also how fans can interact with the band via social media. The Hives have accounts on various social media sites such as; twitter, Facebook and YouTube which means that fans can view these pages to find out more information in some cases and also interact with the band by sending them a tweet or writing on their Facebook wall.

This screenshot shows the section for ‘The Band’ on the website. The page lists the band members down the side, including nicknames for the members, to make the page more personal and friendly to their audience. The page also shows an interview by the band with answers from each member, again making the page more friendly and interactive for the user.

This screenshot was take when I went to visit the ‘forum’ section on the website. Unfortunately the forum was disabled due to spam, but as you can see this was described in a very informal way by the use of ‘bad language’ and so this gives the feeling that The Hives are a laid back band that are very down to earth, which helps fans to feel a part of the band because they don’t feel really distant from them.

This section of the website is something you do not see often when looking at band websites, as not many bands tend to have a ‘diary’ section in which they post about just about anything, from gigs they have played to what a band member is currently listening to. This section again makes the audience feel more of a part of the band as they are getting more information from the band, this seems to be a running theme throughout the website as it seems The Hives are very keen on their fans and want them to be a part of what they are doing, which is something not a lot of bands are like. A lot of bands have very simple websites, simply just advertising their social media accounts and highlighting when up and coming gigs are.
