 How to create your first

quiz in 15 minutes! WebQuiz SQL

Go to http://www.mywebquiz.com/demo/admin and login into

the demo account using the password admin. You will see the

menu, choose New quiz. The Add New Quiz window will appear.

In the Add New Quiz window you can enter the details of your

other settings are optional (you can set them later). Enter the title

Capitals of the World and then let’s take a few moments to review

all the available options that allow you to fully customize your quiz. Let’s display

questions and answers in random order, and set a max time of 10 minutes (set

the corresponding options, see picture on the right).

Scroll down to the bottom of the window and take a look at the

available options. For example, when the quiz is submitted you

can show the right answers only if the quiz has been passed.

Enter a few instructions for test takers and then make the quiz

active (at the bottom set Active = Yes); if the quiz is not active, it cannot be

taken by users. Finally, confirm the new quiz by pressing the Save button. In the

Current quiz database list you will find your newly added quiz; if you select it

This short tutorial allows you to learn quickly how to create and publish a simple quiz using WebQuiz SQL. Only the basic features are

covered, for more advanced options please refer to the User’s Manual. During this tutorial please use Microsoft® Internet Explorer.

In the Current quiz database list select the quiz you have just

created and click the button Save options at the bottom. This

way, you have set the current quiz where you need to add

questions. After the options have been saved, click the Questions

button on the toolbar at the top of the screen, then click the Add button to a

new question.

WebQuiz SQL supports several question types; in the current

tutorial we will just use multiple choice questions. The default

question type (multiple choice) is already selected. Let’s type in

the question What is the capital city of the United Kingdom? and

three answers: in Answer 1 type Belfast, in Answer 2 type Edinburgh and in

Answer 3 type London. Select the option button near Answer 3, so that we

choose the correct answer (London). You can set a score if the answer given by

the test taker is right, wrong or null (blank), and you can also enter a feedback.

If you click Show/Hide Advanced Options you can set a different score and a

different feedback for each answer.

Click the Save button to save your question and you will return to

the question list. Repeat step #5 to add a new question so that we

can have two questions in our quiz. After you have added the

second question, click the Options button on the toolbar to go

back to the options page.

Be sure that your quiz is currently selected in the Current quiz

database list, click the Properties icon and choose Edit quiz. You

will see the Quiz URL, i.e. the address where your test takers

should go to take this quiz. Each quiz has a different URL. You can

copy this URL in the clipboard or you can click View to open a new browser’s

window with the quiz loaded. The questions will be displayed, as well as you will

be requested your first and last name (but you can remove or add these custom

fields while editing the quiz; for example, you can add e-mail or department).

Take the test and then click Submit to submit your answers.

Once submitted, the answers are immediately saved and the test

taker can see the total score, as well as the correct answers and a

custom feedback message; a PDF certificate can also be

automatically awarded. These settings can be enabled or disabled

by the test author. Close the quiz window as well as the Quiz Details window,

and then click Users on the toolbar at the top of the screen. This window lists all

the users that took the quiz: for each user, you can see the personal details (first

name, last name, etc.), when he took the quiz and his score. If you click the

Details icon (or the ID number), more information is available to you (see step

#9).

The User Details window gives you more information about the

answers submitted by each user. For each question, you can see

the given answer and if it’s correct (green mark) or incorrect (red

mark). You can also see some additional details about the user

(e.g. IP address, etc.) and the partial score for each topic (if the topics feature has

been enabled). After reviewing this information, close this window to go back to

the Users list.

Click the Questions button on the toolbar to go to the question

list. Once at least a user has been submitted his answers, for each

question you can see some real-time statistics: how many times it

has been displayed (Views), it has been answered correctly

(Right), incorrectly (Wrong) or not answered (Null) and the average score.

Then, for each answer, you can see how many times it has been selected (#) and

in percent.

All the information and data (users, given answers, scores, etc.)

can be exported to other applications (e.g. Excel, Access). Click the

Export button on the toolbar and then choose an export format:

wait a few seconds for the data to be exported. When you setup

WebQuiz SQL, you can also choose the separators you want to use. Once

exported, you can use this data to calculate additional statistics and charts.
