SCHOLARSHIP POLICY STATEMENT

Our College’s mission statement is

“Our College is a learning community seeking truth by living out theGospel values through the Catholic faith and by promoting the

holistic and optimal development of each person”.

By building on students’ abilities and developing their varying talents, we aim to achieve success for every child in some area of the curriculum. To do this, we must accept differences among students and encourage each of them to find and build upon his or her individual strengths. Our underlying assumption is that self-esteem and confidence, the foundations of balanced lives, are achieved through repeated success, significants moments of challenge, encouragement and care.

To achieve our mission, we offer a broadly-based curriculum and a strong extra-curricular program. We believe that only through vigorous involvement in the College’s offerings can students get the best from their education and fulfil their God-given potential.

Remissions offered to scholarship awardees are applicable to tuition fees only. Families will be responsible for costs associated with Camp and other sundry charges.

Each offer of scholarship is subject to the completion of a successful enrolment interview which requires full disclosure of any special needs. The College Board reserves the right to determine annually the College’s scholarship offerings (ie, how many full or part scholarships and which fields).

Student progress will be evaluated at the end of Semester One and where expectations have not been met, the student will be asked to justify the continuance of his/her scholarship.

Mandurah Catholic College is a K-12, Catholic co-educational day school. Established in 1992, it now has approximately 1620 students enrolled (2016). The crest of the College is a cross within a circle; the cross symbolises the sacrifice that we, as Christians, must make to ensure that we leave this world a better place while the circle symbolises the eternal and all-encompassing nature of our God. The motto, "Seek Truth", comes directly from the aims of the College. There is always a need to seek, and the word itself implies effort and willingness to work according to one's capacity. Truth is the object of all discovery, implying a search for an ideal, and never being satisfied with mediocrity. The ultimate truth is God, who is the object of our seeking. The College, as a Catholic school, is a Christian community and seeks to provide an environment supportive of the development of Catholic values, attitudes, beliefs and practices. It is a place where the young will encounter people of faith who show that they care deeply for the individual and are willing to share their own experience of faith. As a true community, Mandurah Catholic College seeks to inspire its pupils in their search for values based on faith in Jesus Christ. It endeavours to engender in them a spirit of service towards others so that they will become signs of hope and purpose in their own world. The whole College community, by its participation in prayer, liturgy and works of charity and through the medium of regular religious instruction in class, strives to pass on to its students the full heritage and traditions of the Catholic faith. The College offers an outstanding Sports program that is recognised throughout the Peel community and beyond.

SPORTS SCHOLARSHIP PRE-REQUISITE: Prospective and current students are required to have exceptional talent in a minimum of two sports. Representation at local (Association/League), State and National level would be most advantageous.

Sports Scholarship: (Year 10)This scholarship awards a student who has strengths in a minimum of two particular sports, as per the pre-requisite, and will be granted to a student who is entering Year 10 in 2017. Application for the Sports Scholarship is open to students currently attending MCC and students wishing to enter the College in 2017. In addition, the student should meet the normal academic requirements of the College but also demonstrate outstanding sporting ability, potential, determination and enthusiasm. They will respond well to guidance, work well in a team and demonstrate good leadership skills, whether by example or captaincy. The scholarship provides for the full/part remission of tuition fees and is tenable for 3 years, provided that satisfactory academic progress and full College commitment is made.

Sports Scholarship: (Year 7)This scholarship is awarded to a student entering Year 7. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the potential to make a strong all-round contribution to the College and possess early indications of leadership potential. The student should have represented their Junior School, club or State in a sporting capacity. The scholarship provides for the full/part remission of tuition fees and is tenable for 3 years, provided that satisfactory academic progress and full College commitment is made.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE RECIPIENT The College expects scholarship students to pursue excellence not only in the area where the scholarship has been awarded, but to develop all their other abilities and talents in keeping with the tradition of Catholic education.

No student will be awarded a scholarship unless the Principal believes the student will gain a broad range of outcomes during his or her schooling. Recipients of such scholarships will be held to the same standards of behaviour and expectation as other students and should actively contribute to the life of the school beyond their sporting expertise. In particular, the College expects scholarship students to:

• show leadership within the College community at all times• achieve academically to the best of their ability• model appropriate manners and courtesy to staff and students • participate in all College activities related to their scholarship• demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship at all times.

IMPORTANT DETAILS1. The Sports Scholarship will be awarded to a student entering Year 7 and Year 10 in 2017 who has
