Mission Secondary Textiles 11/12 Mrs. Yannacopoulos [email protected] Textiles 11/12 Course Outline Rationale The aim of Textiles 11/12 is to provide opportunities for the students to further develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that have immediate and future application in their personal and family lives, as well as local and global environments. The curriculum provides opportunities for the students to: To increase skills and sewing techniques To recognize quality workmanship Read and follow pattern guide sheets independently Select suitable patterns, fabric, colours, textures and notions Student Expectations Students are expected to enthusiastically participate in a safe manner in all course activities. Students who miss Textile course work may be allowed to complete the theory portion of the project at home, providing the teacher has received a note from home excusing the absence. As a rule, students are not allowed to complete sewing projects at home – see course outline for information related to extra help times. Students are responsible to provide their own materials for projects they make. This consists of at least 3 apparel projects through the year. Teacher Expectations Communications between the home and school is important. So I can contact you if necessary, please provide a phone number or email address where you can be contacted. Assessment in Textiles 9/10 involves teacher assessment a well as student assessment. Where ever possible, student assessment is criterion-referenced, where the student’s performance is compared to established criteria.
