Homework Week 4 Due October 11 Grade 2 TLC Home Reading: The homework program includes 15 – 20 minutes of daily reading. It should include some discussion time with your child to ensure understanding of the text. Please don’t forget to write down your reading minutes on your October goal sheet! Spelling: Spelling practice can be done in the Spelling Workbook that will be sent home today. This does not need to be returned to school as I will post the spelling words on our Weebly page. This is a resource you can use to practice at home in preparation for the spelling tests. The TLC program uses the resource Literacy MAP to teach phoneme awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Weekly spelling words are used to teach children to apply their phoneme awareness skills and phonics to spelling and reading. In class we will work on 8 list words. For homework each night, the children are expected to review the words for their homework level and practice any words they have not mastered. Attached is the list of spelling words for this week. We ask that the children date their homework, write each spelling word with markings as many times as possible in one row of print, using finger spaces between words, and finally, on the row below, write one sentence to show they understand the correct use of the word. Literacy MAP emphasizes the correct formation of the letters with upper case letters taking one full line of print and lower case letters half a line. Please leave one empty line between spaces of print and ensure all homework is carefully done in pencil. Yellow: First 4 words with a simple sentence. Example: I went to school.

Homework Questions:Homework will be checked for completion, possibly reviewed in class, but not marked or graded. Please make sure any questions about the homework are cleared up early in the week so the homework can be submitted on the due date.

Character Education Program:We are very excited to begin our new Character Education Program and partner with you as parents in creating Caring, Respectful, Self- Confident and Responsible students and children.Over the course of a month, your child will bring a bag home that contains a book, activity and directions for you as a family to complete. As we are partnering with you in this project, we are asking that PARENTS please read, help and discuss the activity with your CHILD. Although the books may seem simple for some of the older grades, we are not focusing on the book level but rather the content and developing the personal character traits and strengths in each book. When your child brings home the character bag, please be sure to complete the task, be responsible with the bag contents and return ALL components (including completed task if relevant) to the classroom teacher within the week as it needs to be sent home with another student for the next round of homework. We want to make sure we are demonstrating respect for school property, student learning, and other families’ planning time.

Math: Complete either the yellow, blue or red worksheet on patterns attached below.

Thank you.
