(Explain) Teacher and students will read and discuss page D54-D60 from Science text (Popcorn Reading or Partner Reading). Students will record notes by answering each subtitle question (in red). Students will fold the sheet of paper into 6 rectangles and answer each question (in red) on pages D54-D60.

(Exploration) With a partner students will answer page 233 from RSR book.

(Evaluation) With a partner, students will read “The Weather Watchers” story and complete a writing assignment from the back of the booklet.

(Extension) Teacher and students will review answer with students.

Engage) Morning Work-Students will finish “The Weather Watchers” writing assignment. Students will record one fact they learned while reading yesterday. Students will share one thing they learned while reading while standing in a circle. Students will pass their cards to the left (or right) until music stops. When the music stops, students will read their classmates’ fact.

(Explain) Teacher will use website http://eo.ucar.edu/kids/sky/air5.htm to explain “warm front” and “cold front.”

(Exploration) Teacher will read page 108 Cold Front and Warm Front and create a T-Chart.

(Evaluation) Students will complete a printed quiz from Study Island using their notebooks.

Due to Benchmarks and not wanting to get behind, the 5th grade will switch classes in order to see each group twice during testing. Wednesday (1st pd then 2nd pd) Thursday (2nd pd and 3rd pd) Friday (1st pd, then 3rd pd). This is why the Friday lesson plan is the same as Thursday’s lesson plan.
