My heart is filled with sooo much love and gratitude while reflecting on the beautiful Sacred Ceremony at Soul Home on Sunday, 10 July 2016. The purpose was to celebrate - and what a joyous and magnificent celebration it turned out to be:

Farewell to Penelope (Penny), leaving Johannesburg and settling into her new role in Cape Town.

Our beloved Rev. Steph facilitated the beautiful sacred ceremony, something she loves doing. Steph did a magnificent and skillful job of creativity, love and joy. Melanie assisted her in a wonderful atmosphere of warmth and unique celebration where everyone present became actively involved in making Anka, Penny and me feel significantly loved and appreciated. I feel deeply touched by the beautiful words of appreciation conveyed to me when Rev. Steph asked the community to write notes and affirmations to Anka, Penny and me. I read the notes addressed to me at home after the celebration! Wow! Joyous tears flowed expressing infinite love and gratitude…

Congratulations to Obakeng Gaitate who successfully passed the Practitioner Licensing Panel in an online session on 16 July 2016. He is now a Licensed Practitioner. Well done, Obakeng! I certainly do appreciate your efforts, knowing that you have done almost all the required courses online. This takes a great deal of dedication and self-discipline. For the first time, I was an online panelist, in the same virtual environment (zoom.us) with Obakeng, however with a different Practitioner candidate. It was a great experience for me and I enjoyed this opportunity to be of service to the Global Spiritual Community. A few days after Obakeng’s successful paneling, I received an email message from Rev. Molly Cameron, one of his panelists. Her message reads, “Rev Gerd, I had the privilege of paneling your new practitioner last Saturday, and I was so impressed with the work that you are doing in Johannesburg.” This is gratifying feedback, isn’t

it? Thank you to all of you who are part of this work - being co-creators of a world that works for everyone, through everyone…

The mind of man has created many things, but none so cruel and so devastating as the concept that there is both good and bad in the universe. That there is God and the devil. That God grants some people fortune and success and others He decrees shall be miserable and poor. These ideas have bothered theologians and philosophers throughout the ages. But as we profess to be neither, they really need be of no concern to us. We are not interested in profound philosophical problems, nor in creeds, dogmas, or arbitrary dictates. Each one of us can know, or come to know, just as much about these fundamental propositions as anyone else living. Most alleged spiritual authority is merely an assumption which loudly proclaims and plausibly maintains, and when enough people come to believe in it, the subconscious reactions of their own thought seem to substantiate their claims until all become hypnotized. This kind of self-deception, which leads to real conviction, right or wrong, is evidenced in an extreme manner by a number of “Napoleons” in padded cells in our mental institutions.

RAMPANT IMAGINATIONIf it seems like an unreasonable thought, we need only look about us and try to analyze the absurd claims, the illogical statements and unreasonable beliefs that people have about God, man and the destiny of the human soul. In fact some seem to have inside information on the nature and horrors of hell. They are apparently people of wide experience and very well traveled, but as for us, we need to prepare no such itinerary for ourselves. In fact, even if we desired that there be a hell, who or what in the universe that is intelligent and harmonious could have created such a place? No, the only hell we will ever encounter is in our own minds, created by us for us by the nature of our own process of thought. But if it is heaven we desire, it is ours for the asking, ours for the thinking, today, right now, not at some future time. Heaven is what we make it, and we are making our share of it as we make the best of every moment.

“GRATEFULNESS - A Night Without Lodging” by OSHO

The moment one is capable of feeling grateful for both pain and pleasure, without any distinction, without any choice, simply feeling grateful for whatsoever is given… Because if it is given by God, it must have a reason in it. We may like it, we may not like it, but it must be needed for our growth. Winter and summer are both needed for growth. Once this idea settles in the heart, then each moment of life is of gratitude.

Let this become your meditation and prayer: thank God every moment – for laughter, for tears, for everything. Then you will see a silence arising in your heart that you have not known before. That is bliss.

The first thing is to accept life as it is. Accepting it, desires disappear. Accepting life as it is, tensions disappear, discontent disappears; accepting it as it is, one starts feeling very joyful – and for no reason at all! When joy has a reason, it is not going to last long. When joy is without reason, it is going to be there forever. It happened in the life of a very famous Zen woman, her name was Rengetsu … Very few women have attained to the Zen ultimate. This one is one of those rare women. She was on a pilgrimage and she came to the village at sunset and begged for lodging for the night, but the villagers slammed their doors. They were against Zen. Zen is revolutionary, so utterly rebellious, that it is very difficult to accept it. By accepting it you are going to be transformed; by accepting it you will be passing through a fire, you will never be the same again. Traditional people have always been against all that is true in religion. Tradition is all that is untrue in religion. So those must have been traditional Buddhists in the town, and they didn’t allow this woman to stay in the town; they threw her out.

It was a cold night, and the old woman with no lodging … and hungry. She had to make her shelter underneath a cherry tree in the fields. It was really cold, and she could not sleep well. And it was dangerous too – wild animals and all. At midnight she awoke – because of too much cold – and saw, in the night sky, the fully-opened cherry blossoms laughing to the misty moon. Overcome with the beauty, she got up and bowed down in the direction of the village, with these words:

Through their kindnessin refusing me lodgingI found myself beneath the blossomson the night of the misty moon.

She feels grateful. With great gratitude she thanks those people who refused her lodging; otherwise she would be sleeping under an ordinary roof and she would have missed this blessing – these cherry blossoms, and this whispering with the misty moon, and this silence of the night, this utter silence of the night. She is not angry, she accepts it. Not only accepts it, welcomes it – she feels grateful. One becomes a buddha the moment one accepts all that life brings, with gratitude.(Excerpted from “OSHO Transformation Tarot – 60 Illustrated Cards and Book For Insight and Renewal,” pages 93 to 95)

***YOUR PIECE IN WORLD PEACE

Talk by Rev. Stephanie Clarke at Soul Home on Sunday, 24 July 2016.At this gathering we had a visitor, Robert O’Hare, with us from the AGAPE community in Los Angeles. He is a dear friend of Rev. Steph’s whom she met while she was studying at AGAPE under the leadership of Rev. Michael Beckwith. It was a joy to have Robert participating actively in our Sacred Gathering. He sent me a message after his return to USA, saying, “I especially treasure my visit with your lovely spiritual family.”

Rev. Steph facilitated another meaningful and very inspiring inter-active service culminating in 22 affirmations for group treatment on PEACE. Let me share these affirmations with you:

1. I affirm that Harmony is now established between all groups who appear to have been in conflict.

2. I declare that Peace reigns supreme across the planet and throughout the universe.

3. I accept now that Peace is My Name and My Nature and it is the Name and the Nature of all beings everywhere.

4. I know absolutely that the Kingdom of Peace is now being anchored upon Planet Earth.

5. I now live in the mental atmosphere of “Peace, be still!” And all tendency to worry ceases instantly.

6. I declare that world leaders everywhere are now being called out by the Spirit to make decisions and take action for the highest good of the Whole. Furthermore, I declare that I AM a world leader by right of consciousness.

7. I am affirming now that any sense of poverty or the illusion of “not enough resources” is being dissipated and dissolved back into the nothingness from whence it came.

8. I declare that the Divine Intelligence that knows how to make bombs and instruments of war is now functioning superlatively to make love bombs and instruments of peace.

9. I declare that Peace is spoken everywhere through the language of the heart.

10. I accept that any long held grievances are now melting in the warmth of Love and Forgiveness.

11. I affirm that all appearances of hostility are now being disarmed by the power of this Word.

12. I accept that the compassionate heart of all beings is now the place from which relationship is generated.

13. I trust and know that Life is evolving in the direction of ever-expanding Peace in all dimensions of consciousness.

14. I affirm with power and conviction that Peace is the Way and no person place or thing can block, stop or hinder that.

15. I trust that the Peace that passeth all understanding now infills, encircles and undergirds all life-forms everywhere.

16. I affirm now that all appearances of terrorism, violence, pain and fear are wiped out by the power of this Word.

17. I know with certainty that hate and fear have no basis in Truth, no real substance, therefore the Divine Power of Love and Peace has full sway now!

18. I know that children everywhere are held safe in the arms of Divine Mother.

19. I know that the Divine nurtures Its Beloveds and always provides for every need so food substance is abundantly available everywhere and all appearances of hunger fall away.

20. I know that the Divine always accommodates every cell of Its Beloved Creation within Itself and so all beings everywhere are perfectly housed and sheltered.

21. I know that there is an abundance of resources in the Divine Storehouse within me, more than enough to support the life and happiness of all beings everywhere.

22. I know that Love between the children of the Universe is the true and essential nature of relationship and that this Love now heals all former hurts and wounds.

PEARLS OF WISDOMFrom Leo Buscaglia’s book “LOVE – What life is all about…”

At our Cape Town Study Group Meeting on 30 July 2016, we discussed some of Leo Buscaglia’s ideas about LOVE. Here are some of the gems contained in his writings:

“It’s never too late to learn anything for which you have a potential. If you want to learn to love, then you must start the process of finding out what it is, what qualities make up a loving person and see how these are developed. Each person has the potential for love. But potential is never realized without work. This does not mean pain. Love, especially, is learned best in wonder, in joy, in peace, in living.”

“To the extent to which you know yourself, and we are all more alike than different, you can know others. When you love yourself, you will love others. And to the depth and extent to which you can love yourself, only to that depth and extent will you be able to love others.”

“To love oneself is to struggle to rediscover and maintain your uniqueness.”

“A total immersion in life offers the best classroom for learning to love.”

“Perhaps the most positive word in the English language and the most conducive to continued growth in love is “Yes.” ... A lover says “Yes” to life, “Yes” to joy, “Yes” to knowledge, “Yes” to people, “Yes” to differences.”

“One does not fall ‘in’ or ‘out’ of love. One grows in love.”

“We need not be afraid to touch, to feel, to show emotion. The easiest thing in the world is to be what you are, what you feel. The hardest thing to be is what other people want you to be.”

For real love is dedicated to continual becoming.”

FOUNDATION LEVEL New Foundations of the Science of Mind - Basic Principles for Spiritual Living

This is a revision and widely updated new version of the Foundational Course. It presents a new spiritual principle each week and a spiritual practice to support that principle. The

Creative Process is introduced at the beginning of the class and then flows through each week, so that the student has the opportunity to see and use the Creative Process at work in each spiritual principle. Each week also features the writing of one of our elders as well as one of our contemporaries on the subject at hand. SPIRITUAL MIND TREATMENT REQUESTS AND COUNSELLING

If anyone requires spiritual mind treatment (affirmative prayer) for a specific purpose, please submit your personal request/s via email or complete a written request to one of our practitioners.  They will treat on your behalf for a week.  (See contact details at the end of this newsletter).  Specific prayer requests should not be submitted on behalf of someone else without their permission.  (The Science of Mind philosophy is one of free choice and therefore no one is in a position to intercede for another person, unless they are unconscious or a young child.  In the case of an adult who has not requested the prayer, the treatment will be for “wholeness” and “divine right action” only).  You are kindly asked to make a love offering for this service.

PENNY’S WORTH FROM THE MOTHER CITY

It was with an overwhelming sense of gratitude that I returned to Cape Town after the magnificent, moving Soul Home sacred ceremony held in Johannesburg on 10 July. How wonderful it was to be surrounded by the spontaneous warmth and love of special, supportive Soul Home friends, some of whom I have grown to love over more than 15 years. The joy of being with my fellow Practitioner students from 2003 to celebrate Gerd’s graduation as a Reverend and Anka’s “retirement” as a Practitioner (from an official perspective only and not from a spiritual sense), facilitated by our Spiritual Teacher, Rev. Steph.

Steph rigorously put Gerd, Anka and I through our paces during our Practitioner Course and prepared us for our paneling in 2005. She contributed in no mean way towards catapulting my life into a completely different spiritual direction after I became involved in the Science of Mind teaching and philosophy.

Melanie ably assisted Rev. Steph during the very beautiful process. Again synchronicity was at work, as Gerd, Anka and I assisted Mel’s group of Practitioner students with their training. How apt it was for us to be together during this special ceremony as it felt for me that we had come full circle, reinforcing our connectedness in a mutual sense of respect, appreciation, nurturing and support.

I am well aware that Mel and Steph managed the planning of the ceremony under extremely challenging circumstances. - At the time, Steph had no internet access, so much of their preparation was done via sms messaging which is not only tedious, but requires exceptional patience. How grateful I am to these 2 gracious ladies for their unique creativity and wisdom. The words of Marvin J. Ashton are so apt, “Be one

who nurtures and builds. Leave people better than you found them.” Thank you Steph and Mel for shining your radiant light.

I would also like to express my appreciation to every sacred soul who participated in the ceremony and for the unconditional love and blessings shared. My gratitude for the beautiful, personal messages and prayers that continue to sustain me as I write this slot. I accept too with gratitude the exquisite gifts that you so generously presented to me. As we go forward in Oneness, I quote one of the prayers given to me for our mutual spiritual growth:

“I affirm all that you desire and wish for. May you continue to express your Divinity.”

On 9 August we celebrate National Women’s Day. How wonderful to acknowledge all women in every walk of life! Bless you in your numerous roles and for your incredible influence and contributions you make in the world.

And to one and all, “Growing into your future with health and grace and beauty doesn’t have to take all your time. It rather requires a dedication to caring for yourself as if you were rare and precious, which you are, and regarding all life around you as equally so, which it is.” - Victoria Moran
