Grace, mercy, and peace to you all in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Dear Family of God at Grace,

September is the beginning of all our activities here at Grace. It is the kickoff of a new season. Wednesday, September 5th will be our first dinner at 5:15-6:30 PM. This will be a "pot-luck" meal. Bring your favorite dish to share and come enjoy good food, good fellowship, and good times. Confirmation Classes will begin at 6 PM on Wednesday the 5th. We would like the parents and the student to attend this first class. After the dinner there will be an evening service starting at 6:30 PM.

We are starting a few new Bible classes this month. On Monday, September 10th there will be a men's bible study at my house. This class will be talking about Fatherhood and is a Lutheran Hour study. Food, drink, fellowship, and studying God's Word, what could be better than that? NOTHING!

I want to thank Pete Grund for leading the Sunday Adult Bible class for the last month. He did a great job on the study of St. Paul: Ephesians and Timothy! We will certainly have Pete teach again here at Grace. Sunday September 9th if you will indulge me I'd like to show some slides of our trip to Iceland. Then the following Sunday I will start a Study of C.F.W. Walther's wonderful study of "The Proper Distinction of Law and Gospel." Understanding these two great doctrines of the Bible and being able to rightly divide them is key to understanding the Scriptures! While Dr. Walther spent 37 evenings studying Law and Gospel we will try to move at a slightly faster pass and finish sometime after Christmas.

Last September we were dealing with Hurricane Irma and all the destruction left in her path. We were blessed at Grace to only have minor damage. Here it is a year later, and we are in a new hurricane season. Let us hope and pray that this

season is uneventful, and that God spares us the suffering of any major storms!

Over the next few months I look forward to seeing those familiar faces of our seasonal friends and I hope to meet new friends as we come together around Word and Sacrament here at Grace! God bless you all and may He keep and guard you as you travel.

In His Service,

Pastor Lingsch

The Pelican Lutheran Church  The Pelican - More than a Symbol of Christ's Sacrifice Grace, mercy & peace are certainly OURS in the power & love of Jesus Christ!! It is hard to believe that one year ago this week, we were contending with the reality of an approaching catastrophic hurricane. I remember vividly sending my family off to Ocala at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday September 7th with the van full of our "most important" things, while I stayed and secured homes for others and finally for us on Saturday night - certain that we would lose everything. It was a very deep sense of helplessness, frustration, and angst. Yet, THE LORD ALMIGHTY DELIVERED US!!! Our home, our photo albums, our décor from around the world, and everything else was spared! Our infant congregation came together to serve the community, and MANY FRIENDS prayed and sent support to fill the void of lost wages, evacuation costs, and damaged/destroyed property!!!   WHOAAAAA!!! It is almost too much to think about!   Nonetheless, praise the Lord our God and Redeemer; for He is still redeeming and saving through His specific work in our world every day and every season. Amen. News from "The Pelican"The Lord Jesus continues to advance His Kingdom through the work at The Pelican Lutheran Church and Community Center. While we saw some folks come-and-go, others move, and endured some work-schedule changes to faithful worshippers, we have grown in many ways over the summer. Our average worship attendance for August was 53 folks per Sunday. This is TWICE the attendance we had the same time last year (year over year). Praise the Lord Jesus for faithfully blessing this mission with our heart's desire! Our mission is to fill the community with Jesus and to receive, connect to Christ, and grow those who respond to God's powerful word of love, forgiveness, and new life. In short, this means PLANTING CHURCHES while making new believers & disciples for Jesus Christ. Mission Church #2:To that end we are proud to announce the start of a SECOND CHURCH at The Pelican!!! This is not just a program or a ministry, but an actual, NEW Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod congregation! This new church will be a Haitian congregation, led by ordained Haitian Pastor Saint Luc Charlus (LCMS). The Haitian Lutheran Church "SILOE" will offer 2 worship services & 2 Bible studies weekly! Full ministries for began on September 2, 2018 at The Pelican. PRAISE THE LORD JESUS for electing to have

His presence move so powerfully among us. Lift up in prayer Pastor Saint Luc, his family, his work, his ministry, and the Hispanic members of The Pelican Lutheran Church as we embark on a new leg of this mission journey with Jesus! Official Acts:The Lord blessed us with two weddings with member-couples from Venezuela and from Colombia. We are equipping several new leaders, whose assistance will help us to share ministry, equip saints for service (now and in the future), keep us sustainable in all seasons, and prepare us to handle future growth at this location and when we begin "Site #2" in 2019. We are planning a baptism in September. Educational Seminars:The Lord delivered two different educational seminars, including "Stress Management" in July, and "How to Own a House" in August. (I am amazed at the commitment to personal growth in SO MANY of our people! Between 20-34 folks come out for such educational events - often offered on Thursdays - and that is after two consecutive nights of English Classes. What a blessing to serve those who are investing so much into their personal growth after long days of work!) New English Volunteers:In late-July we lost a great initiator and leader in Lynn Munro, when she, Jamie and their children moved to north-central Florida. One of our summer volunteers, Anthony Brandy, who studies at FAU to be an ESL teacher, served marvelously in Lynn's absence until he had to return to FAU in mid-August. God, in His great love and mercy, has brought to us another great servant to bless our community with Thursday morning English: Valerie Rebellato. Valerie is Brazilian, speaks five languages, and is a chef with the Ritz Carlton, Naples. While her schedule will change with the onset of the tourist season, we are blessed to connect this woman of God to His people and His word at The Pelican. Other new volunteers include Brian Wurster, Bill McGuigan, & Rachel Henderson. New partnerships:PANIRA Health Clinic with Rachel Henderson as our contact.Luncheons for Life is a relatively new Pro-Life event in Naples. The group meets monthly in Naples as well as Ft. Myers. The NEXT LUNCHEON will be September 26th at the Naples Hilton 5111 Tamiami Trail North from 11:30 - 1:30. This is an information and encouraging networking lunch with Christians who value life, and may be interested in encouraging those with unwanted pregnancies (both men & women), or those who suffer from trauma after an abortion. Support for GRACE:We are very blessed to have GRACE, Naples as our Mother Church!!! One way we want to support GRACE is to canvass selected neighborhoods near GRACE with invitations to worship. (There will be no "door knocking" or talking involved - just taping an invite to the doorknob.) If you want to help one Friday or Saturday morning in September, call Pastor Mark (239) 307-7336. ALSO, if you want a few invites to post in YOUR neighborhood, stop by Gwyn's office and

grab some. Our year-round community is FULL of people who need a faith family. Let's show Christ's love and invite them to get connected at GRACE! Future Events:We are planning a fundraising dinner on Friday November 30th at The Pelican. We want to involve additional people from our larger community in a direct way in the amazing work that Jesus is doing at The Pelican Lutheran Church. In addition, as we grow, the Lord blesses us with great opportunities to improve our ministries and add to them. This requires extra prayer, preparation, and support.
