Dunbar Henri – 301-434-4700 x745 Email: [email protected] Textbook: His Story Just in Time AND Bible – preferably New International Version Content: This course covers the Old Testament from Exodus to Malachi and the beginnings of the New Testament church. It will emphasize the role God played in the life of the children of Israel, the heroes sent by God, mistakes and victories made by the people. It will continue with a study of the book of Acts which highlights the beginnings of the Christian Church. Content:

This course covers the Old Testament from Exodus to Malachi and the beginnings of the New Testament church. It will emphasize the role God played in the life of the children of Israel, the heroes sent by God, mistakes and victories made by the people. It will continue with a study of the book of Acts which highlights the beginnings of the Christian Church.

Objectives:

Requirements:

10% - Daily practice assignments – most to be done in class together and some as individual homework.

15% - Meeting assignment deadlines – turning in assignment on time when requested.10% - Quizzes will be given orally or printed – periodically. Usually after each chapter

that is covered. This includes memory verses. In memory verses, each word is worth 1 pt and the version must be the one used in the book.

25% - Unit Tests10% - Final Exam which will cover the entire book – Units 1 and 230% - Various projects – which may include oral reports, creative presentations (posters,

etc.) Major project for Unit 1: Due Monday, September 10 A diorama or poster of the Sanctuary – 100 pts; a Research paper that shows a full understanding of the Sanctuary – 200 pts.. Major project for Unit 2: Due Friday, October 12 ; - A diorama or poster– that exhibits a full understanding of the early Christian church and the main characters involved – 100 pts; a research paper sharing the major events recorded in the book of Acts – 200 pts. Projects will be worth a maximum of 300 pts. Points based on complexity of completed project, thoroughness of understanding displayed and neatness of project.

Each project must include a research paper of a minimum of 3 full pages of information. In addition to the information – you must have a separate cover page and a separate bibliography page.

Grading Scale:

97-100=A+ 87-89=B+ 77-79=C+ 67-69=D+ 0-59=F94-96=A 84-86=B 74-76=C 64-66=D90-93=A- 80-83=B- 70-73=C- 60-63=D-

Attendance

TardinessEach student is expected to develop promptness by meeting each appointment on time. A student is considered tardy if they are not seated in the classroom or at their workstation at the exact time the class/appointment begins. A tardy will be considered excused if the student comes to class with an excused tardy slip signed by an administrator.

AbsencesStudents may not exceed six (6) absences (excused or unexcused) per term in any course in order to receive credit for the course. They are considered absent if they miss half or more of the class period. Class attendance as taken by the teacher will be on the official record. There will be no opportunity to make up absences after school. Students with more than six (6) absences may appeal to the Attendance Committee for a waiver based on extenuating circumstances.

Homework:Students will receive opportunities to practice concepts, skills and information learned in their courses through assignments completed inside class or extended outside of the classroom to be completed at home. It is essential students complete these practice activities, so they can be prepared to move on to the next concept. Assignments are due at the beginning of class for full credit. If assignments are NOT turned in right at the beginning of class – they will automatically lose 50% of their grade on the assignment for being late.

Should students not complete assigned practice activities by the deadline the following will apply:

Students will have until 8:00am the following morning after the due date to submit the activity to the teacher to receive 50% credit.

Assignments not submitted the following day by 8:00am will not get any credit; HOWEVER, teachers will review the assigned activity to provide students valuable feedback which will help students know their progress toward mastering the knowledge and skills upon which they will be assessed.

Printing

Students are not to expect printing to be done by the teacher. If printing is requested there is a $.05 charge for each page – to be paid to the teacher immediately upon completion.

Academic Honesty

Cheating is a breach of academic integrity and involves one or more of the following actions:• To use, copy or turn in another person’s work, in whole or in part, as if it were your own.

• To copy information from another person’s test, quiz, examination, theme, report or term paper whether the person is enrolled at TA or not.• To plagiarize ‐ defined as, “to steal and use the ideas and/or writings of another as one’s own,” without giving credit to the original author.• To prepare to cheat in advance by having in your possession a copy of a quiz/test given by a teacher.• Using any form of notes not permitted by the teacher during a quiz/test.• Communicating in any way with another student during a quiz/test.• Failing to follow testing instructions given by the teacher.• Assisting another student to cheat according to the above definitions.

Cheating may be proved against a student only under one of the following conditions:• A teacher or staff member personally observes or discovers an act of cheating.• A student admits to a teacher or staff member that he/she cheated.• The act of cheating is observed and reported to the teacher by at least two independent witnesses.

If it has been satisfactorily determined that an act of cheating has occurred, the violation will be reported to the Principal who will take appropriate disciplinary action. The teacher will personally present the case to the Principal in a meeting with the student present.

Penalties for Academic Dishonesty

First offense – One day suspension from all classes with a zero for the assignment, test or exam in question.Second offense – Loss of credit in the course, in which the second infraction occurred, for the grading period as well as possible suspension or expulsion.

Behavior and Participation

There will be times when there will be a textbook or Bible check that will be a part of your PROJECT grade – thus worth 30% of your grade. Bring your OWN Bible for appropriate credit.Student is NOT to use torn out paper to turn in assignments. Assignments turned in with ripped out edges will NOT be accepted and the student will receive a 0 on the assignment.At various times there will be Bible Notebook checks – project grade. You must have the course syllabus and all returned assignments in the notebook and as well as notes you take in class.

As the teacher, I want everyone to succeed; however, you must do your own work. Religion class will not be difficult if you keep up. If you do not meet the deadlines it will be hard to recover material and do well in the class. When there is assigned reading, be prepared by taking notes in your Bible notebook. Always be prepared for class.
