The “Beefy Bull Bonanza” will kick off the beef section on which will run on the Friday this year, followed by the Dairy section hosting a Jersey feature on the Sunday. There will be another high class display of sheep this year with a Southdown feature kicking off on Friday.

There will be a great display of show jumping and horse competitions from the Thursday to the Sunday showcasing the amazing talent we have locally and further afield. This year has us launching a new section with a home brew competition, featuring a range of home brew talents.

Once again, the horticulture pavilion be smelling beautiful, packed full of floral displays. The art and craft as well as the cookery section will have a high class display of very talented local crafters and bakers, with a wide range of scones, cakes biscuits, quilting, knitting and much more. The fleece room will once again showcase some magnificent fleeces.

To accompany the magnificent animal nursery we have, we will welcome back the highly popular Jamie and Kim’s mobile zoo along with their great display of native animals. Animals 2 U petting zoo will also have a great display of animals for the kids to interact with and pony rides. Saturday night will once again go off with a bang with a great display of fireworks.

A huge thank you needs to go out to the wonderful sponsors of the Warrnambool Agricultural Societies annual show, without your generous support the show could not go on.

Good luck to all competitors and exhibitors for the 2017 show.

The late Clyde H. Boyle was a life member of the Warrnambool Agricultural Society. Founder of the Warrnambool Pony Club, “Pop” Boyle as he was fondly known, encouraged young riders. He devoted considerable time and energy to both the Pony Club and the Show Society, where he held the roles of Pony Marshall and Novelty Steward over many years.

LEONARD (LEN) HUGH MCCONNELL (1905-93) - CHAMPION SADDLE HACKOwned and showed cattle, greyhounds and horses (1929-90). Helped establish Warrnambool Pony Club (District Commissioner for 43 years); Riding for the Disabled, Warrnambool. Member: Warrnambool Trotting Committee. H.L. PECK (1918 – 1983) - SUPREME WELSH EXHIBITLen Peck’s childhood years were spent on a property at Moama N.S.W. where horses were a way of life. His love of ponies continued through the years but it was not until 1963 that Len purchased the Welsh Mountain Colt, “Nattai Moonsprite”, he with several Nattai mares and at a later date Nattai Borealis 2nd formed the basis of Len’s Alkonie and Meadowmere studs at Grasmere, north of Warrnambool. Len was a foundation member of the A.W.S.B. Society and gave many years’ service as committee member. He was a Royal Show, all Welsh Show, and A.P.S.B. Society Judge, both in Victoria and interstate. Len Peck or “Pecky”, was a very successful exhibitor and was always willing to share his knowledge and expertise, but was a formidable opponent once in the show ring.

NANCY WILSON-MEMORIAL SUPREME CHAMPION SHETLAND EXHIBITNancy Wilson established the well-known Balnagown Shetland Stud over 40 years ago, and was a long-time supporter of the Warrnambool Agricultural Society, as well as other Societies throughout the district. Nancy campaigned for classes for this small and special breed at local shows which have now a popular following throughout the equine world. She was well known and a regular competitor at local, State & Royal Shows, with ponies she bred winning major awards in all eastern states of Australia. The Stud will continue on through her husband, Ian and daughter Fiona.

Class 1753 VAS Junior Boiled Fruit CakeSponsored by Ward McKenzie Pty LtdSummaryIf you mention country shows to anyone all over Australia the conversation will inevitably turn to fruit cakes, who has the best recipe, how big the cake should be, how long to soak the dried fruit, whether to use sherry or brandy, (or better, both) and which tin to use, how much shrinkage is allowable in the cooked cake, the list goes on. In fact, baking fruit cakes is more than a time-honoured tradition; fruit cake is number one VAS competition as far as sheer number of exhibits go. That's a whole lot of cake.Rules and Regulations1. The fruit cake competitions follow the show-group-state level of competition2. An exhibitor having won at a show, will bake another cake for entry in the Group Final; the winner will then be required to bake a further cake for the State final3.
