Isopropyl Alcohol 99% also known as rubbing alcohol is almost pure isopropyl alcohol. This is a must have ingredient from most soap makers. Isopropyl alcohol has many uses in soap making. Spray it on top of cold process soap to prevent soda ash or on melt and pour to get rid of bubbles and help layers stick together. It works great as a solvent in cosmetic formulations, can be used to disperse mica colorants or as a general sanitizer. In the soap lab, we like to use our 8 oz spray bottles for convenient and easy use of isopropyl alcohol.

Activated Charcoal – Our activated charcoal powder comes from various hard woods (a renewable resource). It is produced by a high temperature steam activation process and is used in pharmaceutical and food industries. We use it to make beautiful black and rich gray colors in our natural soap. Activated charcoal is also used as a detoxifying agent in soap. Activated charcoal is a natural odor absorber. It helps with acne related problems

Alkanet Root, Powder - Use this in your soap to create a purple color. It does turn a bit gray at first but will turn into a murky purple color in CP soap. You can infuse this color (and then strain it out) or just put the powder straight into the soap and stick blend it into your soap. Usage Rate: 1 Tbsp per 4 oz. of oil to infuse. 2 Tbsp. (filtered) infusion provides a nice purple to approximately 3 pounds of soap.

Aloe Extract: Aloe is renowned for it's ability to heal, moisturize, and sooth irritated, inflamed, or sunburned skin. Our Aloe Extract is oil soluble and is fantastic in soaps, lotions and shampoos. Suggested usage rate is 2 - 15%, a natural yellow color. This product is lip safe at a usage rate of .5-3%.

Aloe Vera Liquid- Aloe Vera liquid is thick when the Aloe leaf is first cut, but after a few minutes, an enzymatic reaction causes it to become liquid. It is the consistency of water and is often used to replace water in lotion and soap recipes. Aloe Vera Gel is reputed to be an excellent moisturizer.

Annatto Seed Colorant, Natural - Infuse these seeds in your liquid oil (Olive is a good one) to get a nice orange tint to color your soap with. Usage rate is 1 tsp. of seeds in 16 oz. of oil to get a nice pale yellow. To get a darker orange color, use 4 tsp. in 32 oz. After infusing for a full week, use this oil as your base oil in your soap recipe to achieve the color desired. Remember, as with any color, if you use too much color, you will get colored lather. If you want to do a hot infusion, heat your oils up and infuse the annatto seeds for approximately 2 hours on low to medium heat. Strain the annatto seeds before using soap.

Apricot Kernel Oil - Apricot Kernel Oil is a light oil that is very similar to Sweet Almond Oil in make up. It is high in linoleic and oleic acids. It is readily absorbed into the skin and makes an excellent massage oil. The shelf life is 1 year.

Argan Oil: This oil is expeller pressed and rich in vitamin E. It's a lightweight oil that absorbs quickly making it a great addition to most all cosmetic products. Argan is a particularly nourishing addition to any hair care product. The essential fatty acid can help moisturize and define dry damaged hair. Not to mention, it also works great in lotions, creams, salves, or leave in treatments. Whether you're looking to simply boost the moisturizing power of your lotion or go all out with an argan oil hair mask, pamper yourself with the addition of our argan oil. Argan oil is easily absorbed into the skin, making it a fantastic

oil to include in your haircare and skincare formulations. Argan oil allows the skin to breathe, and is used in many acne-fighting formulas.

Arrowroot Powder: Used in almost all dusting powder recipes, this is a staple for all well-stocked toiletry cabinets.

Avocado Butter - Avocado Butter is manufactured from the fruit of the Avocado Tree. The Avocado Tree generally grows in sub-tropical regions. Our butter is hydrogenated to yield a green-tinted butter that is soft and has a very mild odor. The butter is solid at room temperature but has wonderful melting properties which make it ideal for skin care. Use it in all types of soap, as a balm (straight) or in your lotion blends. It's often used in soap recipes for people with sensitive skin. Heavy in texture, Avocado Oil increases epidermal elasticity, while thoroughly moisturizing and softening stubborn, dry or cracked skin.

Avocado Extract: Avocado Extract is generally used to improve softness and radiance of skin. It is also considered helpful with dry hair and scalp. This oil based additive is amazing in face masks, and will be a wonderful addition to your soap, balms, salves, lotion and hair care recipes. This product is lip safe at a usage rate of .5-3%.

Avocado Oil - Avocado oil has a high percentage of unsaponifiables, making it an excellent choice to superfat your cold process soap with. It is wonderful in massage oil because of its natural vitamins B1, B2 and A. This oil is cold pressed. Heavy in texture, Avocado Oil increases epidermal elasticity, while thoroughly moisturizing and softening stubborn, dry or cracked skin.

Babassu Oil - Melts quickly, non greasy, penetrates. Protective, soothing, moisturizing whitish color. Alternative to Coconut & Palm oil. High content of saturated fatty acid. Rich in lauric acid, soft-solid oil at room temperature. Especially suitable for eczema, itchy, dry, and inflamed skin. High content of lauric & myristic acids which have a melting point relatively close to the human body temperature.

Bamboo Exfoliating Powder -The Bamboo Exfoliating Extract is obtained from the bamboo tabashi stems collected in the form of an exudate (a thick liquid) which crystallizes at room temperature. This crystalline powder is very rich in mineral salt and is an excellent source of silica. This powder makes a mild exfoliant. It is ground to 160 microns for a light gritty feel. Suggested usage in soap, lotions or bath gels is 5% to 8% weight (but you can always use less or more as desired).

Beeswax - White beeswax is the wax separated from the honeycomb of the hive bee. It is bleached by exposing it in thin layers to the action of the air, sunlight, and moisture. This wax comes in a granulated pastille form and is made white without the use of chemicals or chlorine.

Bentonite Clay NF: This National Formulary (NF) grade Bentonite clay is a green-gray color and is commonly used to provide 'slip' for easy razor gliding in shaving soaps. You can also use this to add viscosity to toiletry recipes.

Bio-Mulsion Wax: This PEG-free emulsifying wax is a plant derived E-wax, which comes from olive oil, with a broad range of oil-in-water emulsifying applications. The mechanism by which Bio-Mulsion

Wax works is by the formation of liquid crystals in emulsions to give products a smooth more spreadable consistency with superior skin absorption.

For those with sensitive skin, Bio-Mulsion Wax is a fantastic natural alternative to our more conventional Polawax for use in lotions. When using this emulsifier slower agitation will yield a less viscous more uniform emulsion.

Usage varies based on the application and combination of thickeners but normal usage rates are between 2 and 8% of the total weight of your recipe. The innovative crystalline technology gives this emulsifier a wide variety of applications: creams (6-8%); lotions (4-5%); liquid serums (2-3%). To assure that there is no separation it may be necessary to include a thickener or co-emulsifier at usage rates below 6%. This E-wax comes in medium off-white flakes.

Borax - Borax is commonly used in clothes washing recipes to help soften the water and release stains from clothing. It's also sometimes used in cream soapmaking recipes and lotions. This is a chemical with toxicity when ingested and should be treated in the same manner with which you treat lye. Borax cleans by converting some water molecules to hydrogen peroxide. The pH is approximately 9.5 and produces a basic solution in water, increasing effectiveness of cleaners.

We recommend using it at 5% or less based on the findings of the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Exper panel in Canada.

BTMS-50 Conditioning Emulsifier - Behentrimonium Methosulfate or BTMS is a vegetable based conditioning emulsifier. It can be used to emulsify lotions and scrubs but is more commonly used to make hair conditioners. The recommended usage rate is 1 – 15% though we find that much more than 6% in our hair conditioner recipes is overkill. This emulsifying system contains a large percentage of conditioning agents, making it appropriate for leave-on conditioning treatments as well as traditional rinse off hair care. This product contains no hazardous solvents and comes in an easy-to-work-with white pastille.

Behentrimonium Methosulfate is a quaternary ammonium salt derived from the natural plant oil Colza, or what is commonly known as Rapeseed Oil. It is both a mild primary emulsifier and an effective conditioning agent, which provides elegant cationic emulsions for both skin and hair care products. These emulsions leave hair tangle-free and feeling silky smooth and provide skin with a softer, powdery feel after use in skin products such as lotions and creams. BTMS-50 is also capable of emulsifying silicone, adding to its range in hair care products.

Brazilian Clays are a great way to add all natural color to your handmade projects. These naturally colored clays do not contain any artificial dyes or pigments. The various shades are achieved by variations of the minerals and oligoelements found in the soil in the different regions of Brazil. These clays are very stable in cold process soap and would be a wonderful addition to clay masks and creams. Although we used 2 tsp brazilian clay per pound of soap in the picture above, a prominent color can be achieved with as little as 1 tsp per pound of soap. The most vibrant color will be seen in soap that has gone through gel-phase. Usage Rate in Cold Process Soap: 1 to 2 teaspoons of clay per pound of soap

Buckthorn Extract is derived from the seeds and pulp of the Sea Buckthorn berry (not the sea). High in natural Vitamin C and E, this extract is used for it's nourishing effects in soothing sensitive and easily irritated skin, primarily in anti-aging creams. Use in conjunction with other anti-aging type additives in your handmade recipes. Sea Buckthorn Extract is extracted via expeller into Fractionated Coconut Oil for a light, easy to absorb product. Use up to 15% in skin and hair care. This product is lip safe at a usage rate of .5-3%.

Calendula Extract: Traditionally, Calendula has been used to sooth sensitive or irritated skin. This plant is also used as a rinse to lighten hair or for blonde hair shampoos. Externally, infusions of Calendula are also antiseptic, rumored to disinfect minor wounds and treat infections. Suggested usage rates: 4 - 7% in liquid soap, cremes, hair products, melt and pour and CP soap. Calendula is used in lotions, ointments, and creams to help inflammed, burned, rashed, or bruised skin. Varicose veins have been known to shrink after using calendula-infused lotion for a few weeks.

Cambrian Blue Clay: This clay come in a wet form. It's a great addition to cold process soaps, facial masks or scrubs. While we typically recommend adding water to your clay before using it in cold process soap, this clay is ready to be used. Cambrian Clay is a popular additive to help with oily skin and add nourishing properties to your soap. Our Cambrian Clay comes from Western Siberia and is high in minerals and salts. This clay will give your project a grayish-blue color and pleasant, exfoliating properties.

Cambrian Yellow Clay (wet): This clay come in a wet form. While we typically recommend adding water to your clay before using it in cold process soap, this clay is ready to be used. Cambrian Clay is a popular additive to help with oily skin and add nourishing properties to your soap. Our Cambrian Clay comes from Western Siberia and is high in minerals and salts. It's a great addition to cold process soaps, facial masks or scrubs.

Candellila Wax - This unique vegetable wax helps provide gloss and lubricity ("slip") to lip balms and lotion bars. It's also excellent in furniture polish. Candelilla is obtained from the coating of the “wax slipper plant” (Euphorbia Cerifera) found mainly in Mexico. The wax is extracted by boiling the plant (to separate the wax and the plant material). The wax floats to the top of the water and is skimmed off and processed.

Canola Oil - In our tests and research, we've found High Oleic Canola oil to be better than standard Canola because it doesn't result in DOS (dreaded orange spots) as often as other liquid oils. This new canola oil has 70% minimum oleic acid content and 3% maximum linoleic acid content. The increase in oleic acid and decrese in linoleic acid, means the oil is much more stable and less likely to react with oxygen and go rancid, which results in fewer instances of DOS (dread orange spots). High oleic canola oil also increases the time it takes to reach trace, making it great for use in swirling techniques or other complicated techniques where you need a longer working time. This oil is also non-GMO and expeller pressed, meaning no chemicals are used in the extraction process for the oil. Use in your cold process recipes up to 40%. Canola is an inexpensive, neutral oil that works nicely in combination with other oils like Coconut and Palm to make a balanced bar of soap. Canola oil is high in Oleic Fatty Acids much like Olive Oil.

Caprylic Capric Triglycerides - This is a liquid oil derived from Coconut Oil. It oil is comprised of short chain fatty acids, and is extremely stable with an almost indefinite shelf life. This can be used in place of fractionated coconut oil in products such as lotions, balms and massage oils. It is a light, penetrating oil, wonderful for your handmade moisturizing products as it doesn't leave that greasy feeling. It is also a great carrier for essential oils.

Please Note: This is slightly different from Fractionated Coconut oil, as it only contains the short chain fatty acids. It can however be used in place of fractionated coconut oil, with a slightly lighter, silkier feel.

Carrot Extract: Carrot Extract is high in vitamins A and E and beta carotene. It is an anti-inflammatory, soothing chapped and uncomfortable skin. It is thought to bring balance to the moisture in both skin and hair as a conditioning agent. Thisoil based extract will be beneficial in handmade hair conditioner, balms and skincare recipes, especially for dry winter skin, aging or matured skin. Use at 5 - 10% for conditioners and 1 - 5% for skin care.

Castor Oil - Castor oil is extracted from the Castor Bean Plant. It is a thick, viscous liquid with a slight distinctive smell. It acts similar to glycerin, as a humectant, drawing moisture to the skin. Castor oil contributes to thick, large bubbles in cold process soap and is used in most shampoo bar recipes. It is a good oil for superfatting.

Cera Bellina Wax is a hydrophilic derivative of beeswax with excellent oil gelling properties. Although Cera Bellina is hydrophilic its solubility is similar to that of beeswax. The addition of Cera Bellina wax helps give any lip balm, lotion bar, or emulsion a smooth and luxurious texture. The exceptional gelling capabilities of this wax make it simple to gel oils or butters while using a low wax concentration. Because of its ability to inhibit the crystallization of oils Cera Bellina Wax also works well as a co-emusifier or thickener in lotion formulations as well as serums. Suggested Usage Rates & Applications- Emulsions: 1-2% Lip Balms/Stick Products: 1-20% Gelling oils: 1-29% (usage Rate varies depending on oil and desired consistency)

Cetearyl Alcohol: This emollient wax is a co-emulsifier that is commonly used in lotions, creams, and hair care products and is best used in combination with Emulsifying Wax. Cetearyl alcohol can help thicken and stabilize an emulsion without degrading the soothing and hydrating qualities of your product. It can be used in, water-in-oil, oil-in-water, and waterless formulations. Ceteareyl Alcohol is a mixture of fatty alcohols consisting mostly of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. It is oil soluble and should be added to the oils in formulation. This emulsifier works great in products and especially for those working on a tight budget. In some formulations, cetearyl alcohol can also be used as a surfactant booster. Suggested Use Levels: 2% - 30%

Chamomile Extract: Chamomile Extract is used as an anti-inflammatory and also as a mild sedative. Use it in sleepy-time cream, night time baths or pulse point formulas. On the skin, it helps to reduce redness and is soothing on inflamed skin. This product is lip safe at a usage rate of .5-3%.

Chamomile, Egyptian - Used for centuries to help relax, this herb is also lovely as an additive in soap and bath teas. Use whole in bath teas, or ground up in soap for exfoliation and slip. Chamomile helps with a number of skin problems; flaky skin, wrinkles, and stretch marks. skin softening purposes in soaps. Chamomile infusion can also be added to shampoo recipes. Conditioners made with chamomile

will produce shinier, more manageable hair. Chamomile flowers can be infused in massage oils to help with muscle stiffness and inflammation. Chamomile flowers can be ground and used in scrubs.

Chia Oil: Known for its high omega-3 fatty acids content. Recently, this oil has become popular in the cosmetic industry for those looking to soothe dry, itchy, or inflamed skin. Chia oil is commonly incorporated into cosmetics that market its antioxidant benefits and skin protecting properties. Its high content of protein, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, niacin, iron, and zinc make chia oil great for applications meant to replenish hair, skin, and nails. This Chia Oil also gives off a soothing nutty aroma. We love using chia oil for a nourishing addition to applications such as a moisturizing hair treatment or hydrating body butter. Works great in combination with other morsturizing oils like our Hemp Seed Oil, Argan Oil, or Jojoba Oil! Other application could include a lip products, eye treatment, or wrinkle cream. NOTE: This product has a shelf life of 1 year. We recommend using this oil within 6 months of purchase.

Citric Acid: Citric Acid is commonly used in making bath fizzies and bath bombs.

Cocoa Butter: This oil comes in a large, hard solid block, and remains solid at room temperature, making the term "butter" a bit misleading. It is a vegetable fat that is obtained from cocoa beans, and it has a very mild chocolate-y aroma. Cocoa Butter is one of the most stable fats and also contains natural antioxidants. It is reputed to provide a barrier that helps retain and restore the moisture in your skin. This butter is different than our other butters like Mango or Coffee Butter which are soft to the touch. If you hold a piece of solid Cocoa Butter against your skin, it will start to melt in the way a chocolate bar does, but stays solid at room temperature. Note: To avoid crystallization when melting cocoa butter, it is best to temper it. It's simple to do: raise the temperature on your melting cocoa butter slowly, over 45 minutes. Then, turn the heat off, cover the cocoa butter and let it cool for approximately 10 minutes. Use this method to achieve smoother lotion and lip balms. It is used in conjuction with unsaturated oils like olive oil or castor oil, or with more sticky ingredients such as shea butter and lanolin when making soap. Using too much cocoa butter in soap will result in a dry, exceptionally hard bar of soap.

Coconut Milk Powder: Coconut milk is packed with vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5, B6, potassium, and folate to help nourish and hydrate skin and hair. It works great as an addition to cold process soaps or can add an extra level of moisture to your haircare and lotion products. The lauric acid content of coconut milk gives cold process soap extra hardness and promotes a luxuriously fluffy lather. When using this Coconut Milk Powder we found it was a little tricky to mix into water however, heating the water slightly (to about 95°F) made it easy.

Coconut Oil - Coconut Oil is one of the most common raw material used in the soap and toiletry industry. It comes from the seeds of Cocos Nucifera and is primarily cultivated from Southeast Asia and the Philippines. Our coconut oil has a melt point of 76 degrees. Our 7 pound size of Coconut Oil comes in a microwavable & boilable bag for ease of use and the 35 pound size comes in a 5 gallon bucket. It is a food grade bag that can be used for liquids after it is empty.

Colloidal Oatmeal: This micro-fine, ground oatmeal is not rough or abrasive. In lotion it can create a barrier over the skin making it a great additive for those with extra dry skin. In soap it is often used to alleviate itchiness. Colloidal Oatmeal makes a soothing addition to your favorite recipes. This product is

excellent in face masks, milk baths, soap, and creams. Usage rate varies depending on the product. Soap recommended usage rate is up to 5%, milk bath, up to 50%, masks, up to 25% and creams up to 1%.

Coffee Butter - Luscious and rich - this coffee butter will wake you up with just one whiff! Blend with cocoa butter and you have the perfect mocha lip balm or body butter! This butter is a blend of Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil and Coffee Seed Oil and contains between .5%-1% natural caffeine. is antioxidant-rich and beneficial for anti-aging skincare. It helps to heal dry, chapped and cracked skin, balances the moisture in skin, and well conditions the hair. helps the skin's barrier function to maintain moisture levels and to maintain a healthy protective layer, relieving irritation, dryness and peeling, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and leaving skin soft and smooth. It promotes silky soft hair, prevents moisture loss and adds elasticity and suppleness, and also provides an immediate sparkle and shine, and helps to mend split ends.

Cream of Tartar- Controls the pH of egg whites and results in increased volume, stability and more uniform texture of the finished products. We love to use a little in our Bath Bomb Cupcake Frosting to make sure it doesn't deflate.

Crothix Pastilles - Use these to thicken up any surfactant based liquid soap or shampoo product. Melt the pastilles over low heat until no lumps are present. Add to your room temperature soap or shampoo mixture and mix well. It will continue to thicken as the crothix cools. We recommend waiting a full 24 hours to see the final results before adjusting your recipe. Usage rate 1-8%. At much more than 25% usage rate, you will have a hard, putty-like block of product so always do a small test batch.

Cupuacu butter is pressed from the seeds of trees that are native to the Amazon forest. These trees grow in the wild (there is no commercial farms of Cupuacu anywhere yet) and drop their fruits on the ground/rivers where native women pick them up during tropical rainy season and its seeds are cleaned from the husk and inner partitions (refined) and then cold pressed to be changed into a soft and moisturizing butter. Cupuacu butter is similar to cocoa, but without the caffeine content. Creamy, emollient and softer than cocoa butter, it, still, is solid at room temperature. The butter is known to local tribes as a beneficial remedy for dry and damaged skin and hair. High water absorption capacity of Cupuacu makes this butter a great moisturizer promoting deep, long lasting hydration of the skin and hair. Recommended for dry and cracked skin, mature and aging skin, lip care, hair care and more

Cyclomethicone-This clear, colorless silicone adds a silky texture, luster and sheen without the oily residue. Known as a skin conditioner and an emollient. It evaporates quickly, making it an excellent carrier for perfume! Use at 1% to 5% in lotions, conditioners, and salves for a nice silky, non-greasy feel. To make a perfume mix 1 ounce of Cyclomethicone with 1/10 oz of fragrance or essential oil. Shake well and apply to skin.

Dark Red Brazilian Clay- Our Brazilian Clays are a great way to add all natural color to your handmade projects.

Usage Rate in Cold Process Soap: 1 to 2 teaspoons of clay per pound of soap.

Dead Sea Salt: Our Dead Sea salt is sourced from Israel. It is higher in bromides, magnesium, potassium and chloride. It is thought that dead sea salt's therapeutic properties come from the these higher mineral concentrations. Potassium helps regulate the moisture level of the skin, Magnesium encourages skin to heal more quickly, and Bromide has a smoothing and relaxing effect. Dead Sea Salt is normally used to help detoxify the skin, though there are individuals that use it for relief from psoriasis.

Dendritic Salt has a greater surface area than other salts which means the fragrance (or essential oils) and color sticks better and with more oomph! Many crafters add Dendritic salt to their Sea Salt formulations for the non-clumping capabilities. We like a ratio of 1 part Dendritic salt to 10 parts Sea Salt. But of course you can use 100% Dendritic salt in your recipes if you prefer.

Deodorant Additive: This is a great addition to any deodorizing product from deodorants and soaps to household deodorizers and lip balms. This deodorant additive can fit most applications whether you're looking for something that'll keep you fresh and clean or to get rid of that awful smell. It is a water-soluble, colorless, low-odor liquid with low volatility. Additionally, DPG is an excellent solvent for many organic materials.

Dulse Extract: Dulse is a sea vegetable that typically is snacked on for its nutritional properties. In skincare, Dulse is used for its natural antioxidant properties and abundance of vitamins B6, B12, C, E, and A. Use at up to 7% in handmade skin care products, 3% in handmade haircare products and 5% in lip products. Dulse Extract is in Fractionated Coconut Oil and is oil soluble.

This E-wax comes in White Pastilles and is manufactured by Croda (Polawax).

Epsom Salt, Extra Fine - Jewel-like and gorgeous these are premium Epsom Salt crystals. Epsom is not actually a salt, but is instead made of hydrated magnesium sulfate which makes it an excellent exfoliant as well as a good moisturizer. Due to this versatility it is a great addition to scrubs, soaks and soap. Put it atop cupcake bath bombs, salt bars or use it as the basis for your favorite bath salt recipe and enjoy its soothing and relaxing properties.

Evening Primrose Extract: Long known as a natural anti-inflammatory, Evening Primrose extract has traditionally been used in mature skin preparations, but also wonderful to soothe skin dryness, itchiness, and redness. A natural yellow, this extract is oil soluble and can be used in handmade haircare and skincare products, including lotions and soaps. Suggested usage rate is 1-2%. This product is lip safe at a usage rate below 1%.

Foaming Bath Butter is such a wonderfully versatile product. Make a shaving soap, frosting for your bath bombs, a body meringue or a really easy scrub, all with this one amazing base. Instructions: You can play with the foamy bath Butter to achieve a whipped, soft soufflé-like consistency. The easiest method is to use a mixer and beat the Foaming Bath Butter like a cake batter. Or you can put your stick blender into the middle of it and beat until the volume

increases. Add your fragrance, essential oils, or other additives during this whipping process. But don't over-beat it -- if you get the foaming butter much larger than double, you'll find that you have a collapsed soufflé! Foaming Bath Butter will accept up to 5% fragrance or essential oils. We recommend usage levels of 1-2% of total weight. (this means that in 16 oz. of product, you will want 1/3 of an ounce of fragrance). The pH of this foaming Butter is very low (5.5) and is very mild to the skin.

Germaben II - If you are making lotions, and you wish to keep your lotions nice and creamy without mold and other nasties growing in your creations, you need Germaben II. Germaben is a mixture of propylene glycol, diazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, and propylparaben. It is meant to be used as .3 to 1.0% of the total weight of your lotion. Germaben II needs to be at a temperature of 140F degrees or below to effectively inhibit mold and bacterial growth.

Ginseng Extract: Ginseng is a fantastic additive to lotions and balms for mature skin. Our ginseng extract is suspended in a fractionated coconut oil blend, which makes it very easy to add to any oil based product, or lotions during the oil phase.

Glycerin, liquid - This thick, clear fluid is used in many lotion recipes by Donna Maria and in transparent soapmaking. Glycerin is a humectant that draws moisture to the skin and is an excellent addition to any lotion recipe, generally in the water phase. Glycerin is also a great way to smoothly add tricky pigments to melt & pour soap. Watch this video for details.

Grapefruit Seed Extract - Grapefruit Seed Extract (commonly referred to as GSE) is normally used as an antioxidant to help prevent rancidity in lotion and lotion bars. Thick and golden like honey, our GSE is 60% extract and 40% Glycerin. Recommended usage is .5% to 1% by weight. There is some belief that GSE also works as a preservative. At Bramble Berry, we do not endorse the use of GSE as the sole preservative. We believe that a full-spectrum preservative such as Optiphen, Phenonip or Germaben II must be used to truly prevent mold and bacterial growth in your lotion products. NOTE: GSE is not approved as a food additive or for human consumption by the FDA. In addition you cannot make any microbial or therapeutic claims in products based on the addition of Grapefruit Seed Extract. Please note that this is true of any Grapefruit Seed Extract sold in the US.

Used in the making of Castile soap (both liquid and bar).er directly to your soap or try infusing your oil for a speckle free look. Great for advanced recipes such as 6 – 12 color swirls because it allows more time to work with the batter vs. using Pomace Olive Oil.

Olive Oil Pomace- Olive oil is generally the #1 oil in most soap makers' recipes. Olive oil soaps are very moisturizing, make hard, white bars of soap, and are exceptionally mild. Soap made with 100% olive oil is referred to as the famous "Castille soap", and "Marseille soap" is soap that must contain at least 72% olive oil. The lather from Castille soap is low and a bit slimy, therefore, most soap makers combine olive oil with other oils to improve the lather.

Pomace grade olive oil is a thick, rich, green grade of olive oil that is obtained by solvent extraction of the fruit and pits of the olives- what's left over after the first several pressings that give the virgin and Grade A oils. It has a very high level of unsaponifiables (the portions of the oil that do not react with the lye to form soap). This will make your trace time quicker. Since olive oil pomace has a green color, it may affect the color of your bar of soap.

Olive Oil Squalane- naturally occuring in human sebum, squalane lubricates and protects skin. Reduces fine wrinkles and is a superior moisturizer.

Our Palm oil is physically refined without the use of chemical solvents, thereby reducing the risk of residue contamination. Palm oil is used in cold process soap to add to the hardness of the bar and is typically replaced for tallow in all vegetable oil recipes. Palm Oil is comprised of liquid and solid oils. Because of this, it is important to fully melt and stir your palm until it is clear before using it so that it is the right mix of oils every time. In keeping with our social and ethical responsibility goals, our Palm oil supplier is a member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), an organization that supports sustainable palm oil production.

Pomace Olive Oil is a wonderful addition to your cold process soap recipes. Olive oil gives a rich feel and helps to create a very hard bar once fully cured. Used in the making of Castile soap (both liquid and bar). Pomace oil is made by extracting the last bits of oil and fat from the paste left over from pressing the Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Note: Note: Pomace Olive Oil versus other grades tends to move more quickly in cold process soap recipes. For intricate designs, such as multi colored swirls, consider working with our Pure Olive Oil.

Polysorbate 20 - Polysorbate 20 is commonly used to emulsify oils and water at a 1:1 ratio. It is a nonionic surfactant that is water-soluble and used as a dispersing agent. It is gentle and nonirritating. Normally, you need a solubilizer, such as Polysorbate 20, to mix your essential or fragrance oils into body sprays without separating. Combine equal amounts of your fragrance or essential oil and the Polysorbate 20 until you achieve a clear solution, then, add this mixture to your water or alcohol.

Polysorbate 80: This is a common fragrance and essential oil solublizer as well as an emulsifying agent. It is soluble in water and alcohol and insoluble in oils. It is typically a co-emulsifier that is used both as a viscosity modifier and a dispersing agent for fragrances and essential oils for room sprays and linen sprays. In lotions, it works best for oil in water

emulsions and is helpful for foaming or whipping body creams. When combined with liquid oils, Polysorbate 80 creates a blooming bath oil. It can also be used in a self-emulsifying sugar or salt scrub. Finally, in bath bombs, you can add up to 6% as a wetting agent (rather than a traditional witch hazel or liquid oil) to help prolong fizzing in the tub. Usage rate is from 1-5% as a co-emulsifier in lotions and up to 50% for a dispersing bath oil or fragrance/essential oil carrier.

Potassium Cocoate is the potassium salt of coconut fatty acid. It's an all natural liquid surfactant made from 100% whole coconut oil and potassium hydroxide. Because of the flash foaming properties of potassium cocoate this product is great for use in liquid soaps, shampoos, and scrubs. Not meant for use above 35% in recipe formulations. This product contains glycerin as a natural moisturizer. When used at less than 10% in formulation, potassium cocoate works well for baby shampoo and bodywash. This surfactant can be easily diluted with botanical or distilled water alone. If you're feeling more adventurous you may also dilute the surfactant with water in combination with small amounts of fragrance, oils, and/or extracts. Simply combine and mix thoroughly.

Potassium Hydroxide: Used for making Liquid Soap, each container has 2 pounds by weight. Potassium Hydroxide, also known as potash, lye, or KOH, is the chemical that induces saponification with fats and oils to create that magnificant thing called liquid soap! Please be sure to educate yourself on the safety precautions and proper handling of Lye before using this ingredient. Making Liquid soap is a little different than making bar soap. Check out our Online E-book 'Liquid Soapmaking' for everything you need to know to make liquid soap successfully. This potassium hydroxide is 97% purity.

Powdered Goat Milk: Handcrafted, handmade soap is great for the skin and adding milk only makes it better. Goat milk is particularly moisturizing and nourishing to the skin because of capric-caprylic triglyceride. Capric-caprylic triglyceride is an effective skin moisturizer that helps to contribute to skin softness by forming a barrier on the skin to help inhibit the loss of moisture. It is the only milk that contains naturally occurring capric-caprylic triglycerides. The protein strands of goat milk are shorter than other types of milk and are more readily absorbed by skin. Goat milk is also fantastic in handmade soap because it has a lower pH (between 4.0 and 6.4), thus reducing the overall pH of the final bar of soap.

Goat milk also has naturally occurring lactic acid that helps keep skin smooth by encouraging skin turnover (it acts similar to a gentle peel). It also contains many vitamins, specifically A, D and B6, as well as the anti-oxidant Selenium.

Our goatmilk is made by happy goats that are never fed anything genetically modified or containing animal bi-products and raised on farms that do not use any sprays, insecticides, or pesticides. Our Goat Milk is whole and pastuerized and has no BGH( growth hormones), antibiotics, or preservatives.

Goat Milk does produce a distinctive odor in soap and lotion. It can also turn a deep yellow color in Cold Process soap. We recommend using the powdered goat milk within 2 months of purchase. To Dilute: Mix 1 oz of powdered goatsmilk with 8 oz of water. Mix well.

Rice Bran Oil- Our Cold Pressed Rice Bran Oil is rich in Vitamin E and anti-oxidants. This oil has long been used in Japan as a base for soap, skin moisturizer and protector. It is said to be an effective substitute for lanolin. Rice Bran Oil is especially used for treating dry and mature skin.

Rice Bran Wax consists of high molecular weight monoesters. Rice bran wax has been historically used in a wide variety of cosmetics; replacing carnauba wax in some applications. The color of our domestically refined rice bran wax is naturally rendered through batch chromatography technology and is not solvent extracted. This method of refinement retains low concentrations of policosanols, phospholipids, phytosterols, and squalene. The resulting rice bran wax is of superior quality and competively priced when compared to imported material. Applications: Lipsticks, Lip Balms, Make ups, Mascaras, Sun Care. Advantages: Rice Bran Wax can be used as a thickener and has emollience properties. Rice Bran Wax also works well as a binding, coating, or gelling agent.

Rose Clay – Rose clay is considered a mild Kaolin Clay that is commonly used to clean and purify the skin. It has mild exfoliating powers and like all clays, helps to detoxify the skin by drawing impurities from pores. Colored a light pink, this clay is also a fantastic all-natural colorant for soap applications.

Sea buckthorn virgin oil After cold pressed (without solvents) extraction and filtration the oil results in a deep red colored liquid with a pungent (but not unbearable) characteristic odor. Due to natural richness in vitamins, essential fatty acids, and nutrients, Seabuckthorn Virgin Oil is known to be unique nutritional supplement. It can help heal cuts and burns, wounds and sunburns, rashes and other types of skin problems. It is a great natural cleanser and its daily use helps slow down the signs of aging by nourishing the tissues in our skin. Sea buckthorn contains high amounts of vitamins (A, C, E), fiber and protein. It has 15 times more vitamin C than oranges. The fruit also is rich in carotenoids, amino acids, dietary minerals and polyphenols. Sea buckthorn oil is considered to have high antioxidant as well as antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties that help promote whole body health. Sesame oil is high in antioxidants, unsaponifiables (like sesamline, sesamine, and sesamol) and is high in Oleic and Linoleic fatty acids. As a result, it has a long shelf life and can add a great moisturizing quality to your soaps and lotions. We especially love it in lip balms and massage oils. This is a light golden oil - not the toasted, pungent Sesame oil used in Asian cuisine.

Shea Butter - Our Shea Butter is obtained by cold pressing the seeds of the karite tree (and is then refined). Our shea butter is a creamy white solid that is ultra-refined and has a neutral smell. The Shea Butter, Ultra Refined is physically decolorized using organic clays (diatomaceous earth, aka "bleaching clays") to remove color and impurities. The odor is removed via injection of steam to "blow-off" the volatile oils which contribute to shea butter's sharp, objectionable odor. There are no chemicals used to process our shea butter. Our shea butter will start to melt on contact with the skin, making it an excellent choice for lip balms and lotion bars. Suggested Use Levels: Lotions & Creams: 3-5% Balms: 5-100% Bar Soaps: 3-6%.

Shea Oil is created during the processing of Shea butter. The liquid oil is a fraction derived from the nut of the Butyrospermum parkii tree. Shea oil has a high content of Diglycerides, Sterol esters and Essential Fatty Acids. We love using this clear liquid Shea oil because it gives you all of the skin loving, moisturizing benefits of Shea Butter without having to melt it down, so there's no worry about crystallization in your products (in other words, you won't get those annoying little bumps that show up in your lip balm).

It's alkaline nature produces the "fizz" in bath fizzies when mixed with Citric Acid.

Sodium Hydroxide: LYE - for Soap Making. Sodium Hydroxide, or Lye, is the chemical that induces saponification with fats and oils to create that magnificent thing called soap! Our lye is now in flake form! This is a huge improvement because they don't cling to you and your tools due to static electricity like the pellets do. The flakes are a little less pure (97% instead of 99%) but this small variation does not make a difference in soap recipes and saponification rates. Please be sure to educate yourself on the safety precautions and proper handling of Lye before using this ingredient. Our Lye is 32 oz. by volume and about 27 oz. by weight.

Sodium Lactate - Sodium Lactate is a liquid salt that is naturally derived from the natural fermentation of sugars found in corn and beets. In food, Sodium Lactate may be used as a preservative, acting as an inhibitor of bacteria growth. In CP soap, Sodium Lactate helps to produce a harder bar of soap that lasts longer in the shower. Because Sodium Lactate is a salt, it is a natural humectant, providing moisture. This makes it a great additive to lotions, typically replacing glycerin in the recipe. Usage rate: .5% - 4%, or 1 tsp per pound of oils.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is a chemical additive used to increase lather and foam in your toiletry products. Our SLS is a dry powder that is used in the cosmetic industry in many products including toothpaste! You can add this to your bath salts, liquid soaps, or - our favorite - bath fizzies! To make Bubble Bath Bombs we like to add about 10% by weight to the recipe. Just blend it in well with the other dry ingredients. We do not recommend this SLS as a Melt and Pour additive (it does not mix in very well). Please note: Our new and improved SLS is a coarser grain, so it won't float around in the air in your workspace as much. The new formulation is an off white color.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA) - A great alternative to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This product is derived from coconut and palm oils, and conforms to Ecocert's natural and organic cosmetic standard and is 100% of natural origin. This fine white powder is excellent for blending into "bath bombs," bath fizzees, powdered bubble baths, bath salts for super foam, scrubs and more. Makes a blanket of bubbles that last! Long lasting SLSA powder provides excellent foam and viscosity response.

Spirulina Powder - This powder is used to get a dark green in soaps (but does smell a bit ocean-y). Suggested usage in cold process soap is 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp in 5lb batch. Add at trace.

Stearic Acid - Traditionally used as a thickening agent in lotion, this vegetable derived waxy substance is also used as a hardening agent in soaps (at a .5% of your oils as a usage rate). Stearic acid is also used as a hardening agent in candles, vegetable or paraffin based.

Sunflower Oil - Our high oleic sunflower oil has large amounts of essential fatty acids as well as a high amount of Vitamin E. Sunflower oil is a good oil to blend with other base oils in massage or perfume bases. This oil does tend to leave a more oily feeling on the skin. It helps to provide a stable, conditioning lather in soap. It is a more lightweight oil so it's wonderful in bath oils and lotions but does have a slow absorption rate (thus the oily feel). Refrigerate this oil to help increase the life of the oil. Some oil experts suggest a shorter shelf life than 6 months. Known for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Sweet Almond Oil - Excellent as a massage oil, this luxurious oil is also wonderful in soap. Use it in your cold process recipes at 5% and enjoy the moisturizing properties of this light oil. Sweet Almond Oil is renowned for its rich concentration of oleic and linoleic essential fatty acids which help to give it unequalled penetrating and restructuring properties. This oil also makes an unparalleled carrier for salt (for use in salt scrubs).

Talc Powder: Talc powder is a staple you can't do without. Use it for making refreshing summertime body powders, deodorant powders and foot powders.

Tamanu Oil - Tamanu Oil is an incredible oil! Thousands of years ago, the natives of Tahiti found a large, strange tree growing near the ocean. They soon found that the dried nuts from this tree, which they name the "ati" tree, contained a special oil that they used to help protect their skin from the hot sun, humidity and sea winds. There is a very small supply of Tamanu oil in the world because of the small growing area. It takes a full 100 kilograms of Tamanu fruit (which is the annual production of one adult tree) to make just 5 kilograms of cold pressed Tamanu oil. Reputed uses by the people of Tahiti are wide and varied - from burns, to insect bites, to stretch marks. This oil is truly multi faceted. Use it in soap up to 5% or as a massage oil - the uses are endless! As with any nut based oil, people with allergies to nuts of any kind should not use Tamanu Oil. It is a pure nut oil that soothes and softens your skin and help you keep your skin clear and smooth.★acne reduction and acne scar removal ★eczema ★psoriasis ★toenail fungus ★insect bites and sun burns. New research has shown that Tamanu nut oil has significant antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-fungal qualities. No wonder why this essential oil has been used as the preferred skin treatment for people from many places in the Pacific Islands.

Tapioca Starch Powder This modified tapioca starch has been designed to be free-flowing and non-clumping. It is unique because it is aluminum free and because it has been modified with a silicone. It is velvety smooth and imparts a soft after-feel to the skin. It is great in body powders. If you've been having trouble with your body powders clumping, then this is the product for you. Use it 1:1 with your Arrowroot (or rice flour) to make a wonderfully luxurious

body powder or glitter. Add some mica for a fun, sparkling touch. We also love it in lotions and body butters to make the final product less greasy feeling. We love the light, dry, and silky finish Tapioca Powder gives to our creations.

Tussah Silk Fibers for Soap: This additive will give your soap more shine, more lather, and a nice "silky" feel. Add a small pinch of silk (enough fibers to loosely fill a teaspoon) to the lye solution while it is very hot, and stir, stir, stir until it dissolves. Once dissolved, continue with your batch of soap as usual. This silk is cruelty free- the fibers are collected from the cocoons after the silk worms have emerged.

UV Inhibitor: This is a specifically designed UV inhibitor for personal care products. It is an oil-soluble version that may be introduced into the oil-based phase of personal care products. It is a UV inhibitor designed to help protect the colors in personal care products from fading due to light exposure. Recommended usage rate is 2-5%. This product is NOT a sunscreen, only a color fading inhibitor. Best in melt and pour soap.

Virgin Olive Oil: Olive Oil is a must have in every soap makers supply cupboard! Virgin Olive Oil takes a long time to trace, and is an excellent addition to a complicated swirl design, or use in conjunction with a fast moving fragrance oil. It will give you a very long time to work with the soap! Olive oil gives a rich feel and helps to create a very hard bar once fully cured, however be aware that curing can take longer than other recipes. Used in the making of Castile soap (both liquid and bar).

Vitamin E - Use Vitamin E in your fixed oils to help slow the oxidizing process or use it in your soap and lotions as a wonderful anti-oxidant. This is a thick, viscous oil that is easy to mix into lotions and liquid oils. This product is synthetic. This is a gluten free product!

Walnut Shells: This is the latest and greatest exfoliant on the market. These finely ground walnut shells make a super gentle exfoliant- perfect for your facial soaps and scrubs.

Washing Soda - Make your own laundry soap! Washing Soda is a great stain remover and water softener. Also known as Soda Ash (chemically known as Sodium Carbonate), it is often used as a fixative in natural dyeing techniques.

Witch Hazel: Use this for making bath fizzies & astringents. Commonly sold as an anti-inflammatory spray, you can use it as a base for facial toners and refreshing skin spritzes. You can also use this as an all natural mouth wash.

Yarrow Powder - Yarrow has shown to contain astringent and cleansing properties. An anti-inflammatory, our Yarrow Powder may also give be used to add soft yellows and greens to your soap. You can add this powder directly to your soap or try infusing your oil for a speckle free look.
