They need to know about the Spirit’s power. They need to be rooted in gospel grace. They need to believe in the promises of God. And They need to fight, strive, and make every effort to work out all that God is working in them. Let us say with Paul, ‘I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.’”

A Christian’s Daily Prayer

Music and Lyrics: Matt Merker; Jordan Kauflin; Dave Fournier As morning dawns and day awakes,To You I bring my needO gracious God, my source of strength,In You I live and breatheEach hour is Yours by wisdom planned,Each deed empowered by sovereign handsRenew my spirit, help me stand;Be glorified today

As day unfolds, I seek Your willIn all of life’s demandsAnd though the tempter tries me still,I cling to Your commandsLet every effort of my lifeDisplay the matchless worth of ChristMake me a living sacrifice;Be glorified today

As sun gives way to darkest nightYour Spirit still is hereAnd though my strength fades like the lightNew mercies will appearI rest in You; abide with meUntil our trials and sufferingGive way to final victoryBe glorified, today; be glorified, I pray

CONFESSION OF SINOur Father, you call us to live hopeful lives because of your salvation in Jesus Christ. But we confess that we have been consumed with anxiety. We have fought with the wind, and we’ve wasted our energy. We have labored for that which does not satisfy. We have trained ourselves for everything but godliness. And often we have bought into ideas that are simply not true. Forgive us for our failure to strive after the godliness

Page 4: €¦ · Web view“Sanctification is not by surrender, but by divinely enabled toil and effort…some Christians are stalled out in their sanctification for simple lack of effort.

that is ours because of our union with Christ. Remind us of your mercy in Christ. Help us strive with hope to be like the One who is our salvation. We pray in His name, Amen.

SILENT CONFESSION OF SIN

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S MERCY John 10:10b

† HYMN OF GOD’S MERCY Come Ye Souls, By Sin Afflicted

Music: Kevin TwitCome ye souls by, sin afflicted,Bowed with fruitless, sorrow down;By the broken, law convicted,Through the cross, behold the crown;Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Mercy flows through Him alone.

Take His easy, yoke and wear it;Love will make your, obedience sweet;Christ will give you, strength to bear it,While His grace, shall guide your feetSafe to glory, Safe to glory, Safe to glory, Where His ransomed captives meet.

Bless-ed are the, eyes that see Him,Blest the ears that, hear His voice;Bless-ed are the, souls that trust Him,And in Him, alone rejoice; His commandments, His commandments, His commandments Then become their happy choice.

Sweet as home to, pilgrims weary,Light to newly, opened eyes,Like full springs in, deserts dreary,Is the rest, the cross supplies;All who taste it, All who taste it, All who taste it Shall to rest immortal rise.Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus; Look to Jesus;

Mercy flows through Him alone.

CONFESSION OF FAITH from The New City CatechismQuestion 34: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through Christ alone, must we still do good works and obey God’s Word?Answer: Yes, because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, also renews us by his Spirit; so that our lives may show love and gratitude to God; so that we may be assured of our faith by the fruits; and so that by our godly behavior others may be won to Christ.

WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING

† DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF THANKSGIVINGPraise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

SERMON Rev. Hobie Wood 1 Timothy 4:6-10 “Training Days”

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPERGuidelines for Reception of the Lord’s Supper: We welcome all Christians who are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, who have been baptized, and who are identified appropriately with a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are also invited

Page 6: €¦ · Web view“Sanctification is not by surrender, but by divinely enabled toil and effort…some Christians are stalled out in their sanctification for simple lack of effort.

to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer, reflecting on your need for God’s mercy and on his gracious provision of a sin-bearing Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.Note About Partaking: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)Note About Communion Wine: The outer ring of each tray contains wine. The inner rings contain grape juice.

Prayers of Reflection for Those Not PartakingIf you are not able to receive the Lord’s Supper this morning, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers.

Prayer for Those Searching for TruthLord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.

Prayer for AwakeningLord Jesus, I have heard teaching from the Bible for years, and have been in church for years, but very little of this even seems real to me. Please show me the reality of what you are saying. Unnerve me with the badness of the bad news. Captivate me with the goodness of the good news. Make what is familiar seem new. Amen.

Prayer of BeliefLord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

† HYMN OF RESPONSE There Is A Hope

Music and Lyrics: Stuart Townend; Mark EdwardsThere is a hope that burns within my heart,That gives me strength for every passing day;A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part,Yet drives all doubt away:I stand in Christ, with sins forgiven; And Christ in me, the hope of heaven! My highest calling and my deepest joy,To make His will my home.

There is a hope that lifts my weary head,

Page 7: €¦ · Web view“Sanctification is not by surrender, but by divinely enabled toil and effort…some Christians are stalled out in their sanctification for simple lack of effort.

A consolation strong against despair,That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,I find the Saviour there!Through present sufferings, future’s fear,He whispers ‘courage’ in my ear.For I am safe in everlasting arms,And they will lead me home.

There is a hope that stands the test of time,That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,To see the matchless beauty of a day divineWhen I behold His face! When sufferings cease and sorrows die,And every longing satisfied. Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,For I am truly home

It has been a great way for the Hunts to get to know their neighbors better. Please pray for their relationship with their neighbors to grow and for their conversations to point to Jesus.
