Word study will resume next week; February 17 th -20 th READING/ELA This week we will continue our study on penguins. We will continue reading the chapter book, Eve of the Emperor Penguin . This is a fiction story in the Magic Tree House series. We are going to spend several weeks on this story. We will be focusing on vocabulary and summarizing. They will have an Expedition Log that will come home at the end. In ELA, we will be learning about adding apostrophes to possessive nouns and contractions. We are halfway through the 3 rd- 9 weeks, so students should be halfway to meeting their AR goals! Please MATH We will continue working in Unit 4: Applying Base Ten Understanding. This week we will add 3 digit numbers with and without regrouping. We will review on Wednesday and take our Unit 4 Midpoint Test on Thursday. Look for a study guide in your child’s red folder. Important Dates February 5 th - Progress Reports February 10 th -Valentines Dance (BETA club) February 12 th - Parent/Teacher Conferences (student ½ day) February 16 th -No School (Winter Break) February 20 th -Song & Dance Festival (K-2 nd : Extra Information: * Conference forms were sent home. If you would like to schedule a conference and have not already done so, please let me know. Conferences will be held Feb. 12 th . Science This week we will continue our unit on matter. Students will learn about solids, liquids, and gases and be able to identify the differences between them. We will review on Tuesday and take our Matter Test on Wednesday. Look for a study guide in your child’s red Field Trip If you have not returned your child’s permission form and the $8.00 to cover the cost of the field trip, please do so as soon as possible.
