General Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 10 A.M. by President Jeanne Androvich. Those attending included: Jeanne Androvich, Judy Musa, Rick Smuthrud, Amelia Shelley, Kathy Winters, Ilia Wilken, Ariana Pereira, Jan Robinson, Sean McGill, Cathy Humphrey, Carol Tocco, Michael Jennings, and Donna Taylor.

Carol moved and Ilia seconded that the minutes be approved. Motion Passed.

Treasurer’s Report- There are 53 Corner Stones, 15 Stepping Stones and 2 Cap Stones. Checking account balance is $4,256.16. Investment fund balance is $172,026.55. Ilia moved and Carol seconded that $3,000 be transferred from checking to investment fund. Motion was amended to $2,000. Motion passed.

Guest- Amelia Shelley, FVRL District Executive Director: She met with Tevis Laspa , Mayor Ron Onslow and City Manager Steve Stuart.. No progress noted at end of meeting. Using Davis Park annex was not acceptable to City. The Stryker House was toured as a possible purchase to swap property with City. The site is not suitable for library due to drainage, slope and other issues. A phone call was made to Steve Stuart, City Manager regarding swap but was not acceptable to City. Currently, the City is interested in pursuing office space in View Ridge site. Another public forum maybe needed to get information from city patrons and provide update.

Jan Robinson gave a short report on Friends’ Fair held in July. Particulars are noted in written report distributed to Board members.

FVRL Trustee dinner held in August was well received by Board members. Two pieces of correspondence stating positive comments were received.

Special Project/Fund Raiser

Little Free Libraries: No discussion occurred due to absence of Steward. Article in Ridgefield Living featured article about the Little Libraries.

Bookshelves- Ilia Wilken, Steward: Sales are up. Sorting needs to be done tomorrow.

Silent Auction: August item of board games sold for $30. September item is living room set, outfits for 18” doll. October item will be spinet piano painted with birds which is currently located in Vancouver.

Fund Raiser/BLTReport- 3 Peaks Fundraiser- June 24- No news regarding funds collected.

Chair-ity- August 11- Income was about $5500. It will be done again next year. There are currently 8 chairs available.

1st Saturday Used Book Sale-Saturday,(September 2 ), Farmers’ Market: Income breakdown was $91 book sales, $15 donation, and $2 for wall hanging for a total of $108.

Golf Tournament- Sunday,(October 1)- There are 13 teams with 4 sponsors. There will be a spaghetti dinner following the tournament.

1st Saturday Used Book Sale, Saturday ( October 7) Farmers’ Market Overlook Park Tevis and Jan will be the 1st shift. Lorna, Carol and Jeanne will do the second shift. This will be Bird Fest.

Ridgefield Art Association (RAA) Chickadee Arts & Crafts Bazaar- -( Saturday, November4th, 10 A.M.to 4 P.M. at Ridgefield Community Center)- Jeanne & Jan- This will be a one table event ( #21). $20 has been paid to RAA. Volunteer sign –up will be made available.

FOL Fall Used Book Sales: Organizers are Sean McGill and Donna Taylor.October 21, Saturday, pack left over books at 3 Creeks Library, 4 P.M.Oct.24, Tuesday will be the set-up of tables, removal of chairs, set-up of book cases, etc. Oct. 25, Wednesday is book sale set-up, 11 A.M to 4 P.M.October 26,Thursday, 5:30-8:15 (volunteer time) sale for members only from 6 P.M. to 8P.M. October 27, Friday, book sale from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M.October 28, Saturday, 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. book saleOctober 28, Saturday 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. pack-up and clean-upSean will contact 3 Creeks Friends ‘President regarding Ole Blue pick -up and any other details. Hand trucks for 3 Creeks pack and go are needed. One hundred boxes need to be purchased to pack at 3 Creeks.

Report –Foundation – Rick Smithrud and Judy Musa

On the 24th, there will be a fund raiser, Give More on 24,that is being sponsored by SWIF. This will be a 24 hour online campaign. There will be challenges. Baskets for Authors/Illustrators must be in Foundation office three weeks in advance. The date of Authors/Illustrators is November 8. Cost is $85 per ticket.

Report- Ridgefield Community Librarian- Sean Mc Gill-

Circulation in 2017 is up almost 4% from last year. Number of patrons in August 2016 was 4,504 and increased to 4731 this August. Story times have started again. Thirty people attended the last Meaningful Movie program Next one is scheduled for September 27. Upcoming programs include: Experience Ridgefield, Halloween Hall (October 20, 21). Volunteer Fair (RHS). Sean will be attending Library Design Institute. March is

Ridgefield Youth Arts Month, He is exploring I AM RIDGEFIELD for March as well. The program would focus on 25 people.

Memo of Understanding- Due to absence of board members, discussion and action postponed until Board Meeting.

Membership: The committee met and made several decisions. Donna reported that to contact members, especially new, newsletters, thank you letters, welcome letters be a part of the effort. Regarding the book sale, ring a bell if lifetime membership occurs, as well as renewal membership. The name will be announced and free refreshment coupon.issued. They will also receive one free book and book bag for lifetime membership. Bags will be purchased at Dollar Store for $1. Poster about Lifetime member will be sent downtown via Sean.

Public Awareness: Newsletter will be up and running for October, November and December. Submissions will be accepted up to one week before deadline. Please send submissions to Lorna. Adriana indicated that two different emails will be sent to members- new and renewals. Library proposal forms are being changed. There are 3 different formats. Members at this will meeting will signify their choice by initialing the form they prefer. Publicity form needs to be completed and returned to Lorna for publicity.

Dictionaries, text books and encyclopedias will not be accepted for book sales or as donations.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:58 A.M. The next general meeting will be Thursday, October 12, at 10 A.M. at the Ridgefield Community Center.
