The Volunteer Centre is a service delivered by Bolton CVS. We help people wanting to volunteer to find volunteering opportunities and match them with organisations who are offering voluntary roles.

Ambition for Ageing

Ambition for Ageing is an exciting new project being delivered in partnership between Age UK Bolton, Bolton CVS and Bolton at Home, which aims to build age friendly communities and encourage people over 50 to connect more in Halliwell, Tonge with the Haulgh and Crompton areas of Bolton. 

AmbassadorAs an Ambition for Ageing Volunteer Ambassador you can become involved in the project in a variety of ways, depending on the time you are able to commit and the skills and experience that you bring to the role. The purpose of this role is to support the Ambition for Ageing Development Worker to engage with older people in Bolton, and encourage and support their involvement in the project.

If you would like to get involved and support the project, your work will be centred around these three wards, so please do not apply if you are hoping to create Age Friendly communities in other areas of Bolton, as at the moment we are only working in the three wards outlined above.

Cake and Coffee Morning Volunteers

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic, reliable and organised people to help out with our bi-monthly Ambition for Ageing Cake and Coffee mornings in Tonge with the Haulgh, Crompton and Halliwell areas of Bolton. The role will involve welcoming local people attending the events, serving tea, coffee and cakes, and chatting to people about the 'Ambition for Ageing' project (full training for which will be provided).

We will cover all travel expenses for our volunteers, and also reimburse meal costs if you have been delivering a full day of volunteering with us. We will also support our volunteers with any relevant training, to enable them to deliver their role.

Beechville is a residential home, owned by the Society of Friends (Quakers) providing care and activities for older people.

Are you interested in working with older people? Volunteers are needed to help residents with activities - e.g. talking, flower arranging, games, walks, quizzes, skype peer to peer assistance for residents, it can help the individual to feel good about themselves.We are only able to take volunteers from the age of 16.

Bolton Adult Asperger Support

We are a voluntary organisation that exists to provide support to and enhance the health and wellbeing of adults with Aspergers.

Finance Officer/Treasurer

This is a trustee role within the organisation and you would be required to be a signatory to all cheques paid and be required to produce a set of accounts on a yearly basis. You would also be required to attend the charity’s monthly meetings as often as

possible and generally give financial guidance as and when required.

The role is an important one that will ensure the good governance of the charity and the reputation of its work and its Trustees. The position would suit someone with a professional background in finance or bookkeeping and whilst not essential, membership of a professional accounting organisation is desirable. The duties of the post are not onerous.

You will be required to accept the role of a Trustee in the organisation and be a signatory to all cheques paid and be required to produce a set of accounts on a yearly basis. Train to Teach English to Beginners

Volunteering as an ESOL teacher is a great opportunity for individuals to gain experience and develop new skills while making a difference to peoples’ lives. By volunteering with Talk English you will gain experience of teaching English, working as part of a team and working with learners from all over the world. You will also develop your communication, presentation and organisational skills.

Who and what will I be teaching?You will be teaching people over the age of 18 including asylum seekers, refugees and members of established communities who cannot access ESOL courses in colleges. The classes focus on teaching the language that people need to use in everyday situations, such as going shopping, using public transport and going to the doctors. The learners are all at beginner level.

You will receive a free 'Introduction to ESOL Teaching' course and be mentored throughout the programme by experienced and ESOL teachers. In addition, you will have access to an online TEFL course from Train-to-Teach to help you build on your knowledge of English language and improve your confidence in the classroom. This could be your first step into a career in teaching and will certainly provide you with an opportunity to develop a number of interpersonal skills and gain confidence.

Bolton Hospice

Shop volunteerWe have charity shops located all across the Borough of Bolton, selling donated items as well as our popular range of Christmas cards and calendars from September to December each year. We also have a small gift shop located at the hospice, which sells a range of cards, gifts and branded merchandise all year round.

The aim of our charity shops is to provide a regular and sustainable source of income that supports the work of the hospice. We also recycle a wide range of goods to do our bit for the environment and raise extra funds. Caritas Bolton Young Parents Service houses ten young mothers (aged 16-25) and their children and is accessed by referral by Bolton Housing based on priority needs. Staffed 24/7 by Key Support Workers who provide safeguarding, surveillance, nurturing support and guidance much appreciated by the girls’ social workers and family support officers. The volunteer will join the newly formed ‘Friends of Radcliffe Road’ fundraising committee, with a view to motivating and growing the team of volunteers and leading and coordinating fundraising initiatives.

Fairtrade in Bolton

Do you have a passion for seeing greater fairness in international trade? Would you like to help some of the world’s poorest producers and farmers trade themselves out of poverty? Would you like to be part of a team working to maintain Bolton’s status as a Fairtrade Town and increasing the number of places using or offering Fairtrade products ?

Event OrganiserFairtrade in Bolton is looking for a volunteer to take on the role of Events Organiser. The work entails: Maintaining good relationships with the existing Faitrade contacts across the town, including the Council and with others, planning for events throughout the year which will help to raise the public awareness of the goodness of Fairtrade and especially during Fairtrade Fortnight - normally the end of February and beginning of March each year, co-ordinating the organisation and publicity of those events, keeping records of events as evidence of the ongoing work, reporting progress to the Bolton Fairtrade Town Steering Group three times a year.

The Events Organiser can work from home. It helps if he/she has access to a computer and email. Expenses are paid. The number of hours work can vary greatly each week from a few hours to as many as can be offered during the run up to Fairtrade Fortnight events.

Fortalice Bolton

Fortalice is a Bolton-based organisation which provides frontline services for women and children affected by domestic abuse. Established in 1977 to provide emergency accommodation and

support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse within their own homes, the project has expanded during the past years and now provides a diverse range of services for women, children and young people within both refuge and support centre settings.

Our refuge provides temporary accommodation for 22 women and their children, offering a safe place to live whilst being supported through the process of regaining self-confidence and the ability to re-establish themselves independently. Our Support Centre provides services to non-resident women, children and young people through advice and information, counseling, personal development work and services tailored to meet individual needs.

Early Help Intervention Volunteer As part of a team of volunteers support workers, working in pairs, you will visit the individual in their home. On the first visit volunteers will complete an initial needs assessment and develop a support plan in collaboration with the individuals. If it is seen that an individual needs support around additional issues for example debt advice or alcohol support then volunteers will sign post to the appropriate agencies. You will contact individuals after an initial period to monitor the outcome of the intervention and to offer additional support and signposting if needed.

Family Conferencing Volunteer We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to start as soon as possible to provide support to our Family Conferencing Service. As part of a team of volunteers, you will provide mediation

support in an agreed neutral setting to families experiencing contact difficulties. Upon meeting the family, you will explain the Family Conference process, confidentiality agreements and establish expectations.

The volunteer will facilitate the mediation session throughout the day and establish a clear mutually agreed contact plan. The volunteer will complete all relevant documentation and share with the Family Conference Co-ordinator. If additional support is required, the volunteer may signpost the family to other agencies.

Home Start Bolton

Home-Start Bolton supports families across Bolton who have a child under five through one to one weekly volunteer support within the families’ homes. The families we work with need help, friendship, advice or support during their children’s early years.

We provide tailored one to one support to families who are; isolated in the community, with no family nearby and struggling to make friends, suffering with post natal illness but finding it hard to talk to anyone about it; having a hard time coping with their child’s illness, overwhelmed by the death of a loved one; struggling with the emotional and physical demands of having children under the age of five; struggling to cope with a disability or relationship problems; have experienced domestic violence; substance abuse; mental health issues. We welcome volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds which reflect the backgrounds of the families we support.

The volunteers are interviewed, DBS checked, undergo a 7 Day Training Course and receive regular six weekly supervision by the Home-Start Volunteer and Family Support Co-ordinators. We also provide volunteers with ongoing training and support to help with their individual personal development and work based skills needs.

Lifeline Bolton BIDAS

BIDAS recognise the positive impact that having volunteers has to its service delivery, We work with individuals, families and communities both to prevent and reduce harm, to promote recovery, and to challenge the inequalities linked to alcohol and drug misuse.

Staff support (Complex Lifestyles)

At Lifeline Project we recognise the importance of providing targeted support to those individuals and families that present with a complexity of need; we therefore have successfully obtained funding to deliver the new “Complex Lifestyles Service” service in Bolton. Service users can access the Complex Lifestyles Service if they meet three or more of the following criteria: Mental Ill Health (including self-harm and suicide), Alcohol and/or drug misuse, offending/at risk of offending, poor/unstable accommodation or homelessness.

Main Responsibilities: To support the Complex Lifestyles Practitioner with identifying areas of support for service user, building and maintaining strong professional relationships with

external agencies to encourage ongoing partner working, working with the service user and practitioner to develop a SMART and time limited plan of support, offering mentoring and advocacy support through attending appointments with them in a variety of community settings, use the safety call in procedure when lone working.

Recovery Cafe Assistant

BIDAS are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team to become 'Recovery Cafe Assistants. To actively help in the development, expansion and day to day operation of the BIDAS Recovery Cafe, creating an environment that is welcoming to its users. Currently we are only operating on a Saturday from 9.30am until 12.30pm, as this is a pilot we are currently offering a free service to our clients. Our aim is to develop a self-sustaining cafe that provides a various refreshments with consistent and professional service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities' To assist the staff and other volunteers in setting up the cafe for patrons, to serve hot and cold beverages and light snacks' To encourage patrons to get involved in activities the service has to offer' Every Recovery Cafe Assistant will be expected to attend agreed supervision and training' Recovery Champions will uphold the integrity of the service and maintain professional boundaries at all times' To work towards the Lifeline mission and values and also to the ethos of the Bolton Integrated Drug and Alcohol Service (BIDAS) partnership.

Living in the UK for minimum of 3+ years. Given the nature of this position previous experience of working in a cafe or restaurant environment would be desirable. We require volunteers that can

work on Saturdays and if possible for a short period of time on a Friday afternoon to set up ready for opening. Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate would be an advantage.

This is dependent on your availability and the needs of the team, as a guide it is recommended that you maintain regular weekly contact with your supervisor and volunteer with the service for a minimum of two hours per week, ideally on a Saturday.

Time2Communities

Time2 Communities is a Bolton-based organisation offering free taster courses and accredited learning in counselling skills and IAG. Time2 Communities offer a range of volunteering opportunities, often accompanied with free training.

Bolton Magistrates Court Helpdesk Volunteer

The Time2Communities helpdesk is based within the Bolton Magistrates Court and works in partnership with Bolton Magistrates Court helpdesk.

The desk offers independent support, advice and guidance to anyone attending the Court. As a volunteer you will be required to signpost people to agencies, organisations, community groups or even friendly cafes where they might start to sort out their problems.
