HUSKIES AT HOME

Learning activities for week of May 25-29, 2020

Literacy Activities

Reading: Continue to read each day. Try this for a different setting for reading:

3 to 3

Check out the weekly 3 to 3 link to hear rhymes, an oral story and a riddle. I would love to hear your answers to the riddle!

Writing: Have your child write each day. Some ideas are:

· Write about something you did in the sunshine last week

· Write a procedure – how to play one of your favorite games

Students should aim for 5 or more sentences on each writing topic. It may take more than one writing session to complete. Try to complete one each week. They would be used to checking their writing for:

· Capitals at beginnings of sentences

· Punctuation at the end

· Spaces between words

· Words on the line

· Proper letter sizing

Word Work: the, that, than, some, so. Your child can practice reading these words, spelling them or writing them each in a sentence.

Word family: “out” How many words can your child come up with that have this sound? For example: shout, pout, trout. Practice reading the following “out” words:

Math Activities

Counting:

Keep counting to 100 and backwards from 100-1.

Keep asking what number is 1 more/1 less and 2 more/2 less (between 1 and 20).

Count by 2’s to 20 and by 5’s and 10’s to 100.

Try this game again – it’s a good one!

Addition using a game called BACON

Material needed: 1 die paper and pencil

1. Draw a 2 x 5 array and print the letters to spell Bacon in the top row. (1 letter per box)

B

A

C

O

N

2. To begin roll the Bacon number that will be used for all five rounds.

3. First player will begin rolling and mentally adding their score after each roll. At any time this player may stop rolling and record their total score under the B and their turn is finished. If during this player’s turn the Bacon number is rolled their turn is over and their score will be 0 for that round.

4. Next player will roll and begin adding their rolls.

5. At the end of the five rounds the players total all their scores. The player with the greatest sum wins.

To play another game, roll a new Bacon number to start.
