CREATION FOUR LESSONS DEAR PARENTS: We realize that you, as parents, are the primary faith influencers in your child’s life. The best disciple making takes place when students’ parents take the lead. That’s why we’ve created this helpful guide for you to use at home with your child. It is designed to give you some basic information about what is being taught at church through the Intersections curriculum, along with some helpful tools, suggestions, and questions to help you reinforce this learning at home. Intersections focuses on God’s movement toward us on a daily, lifelong, and eternal level, and how these intersections change the way we view ourselves and the world. These four lessons (Creation) address God’s creation of the world and how the world reveals the truth about its Creator. DEAR PARENTS:We realize that you, as parents, are the primary faith influencers in your child’s life.

MAIN TOPICS AND SCRIPTURE COVEREDFOR YOU TO KNOW: FOR YOU TO ASK:

1: In the Beginning (Genesis 1)This lesson will teach students the basics of how God created the universe and humanity.

How has God created you to be creative, just like him?

What could we do as a family this week to appreciate the world God created for us to steward and enjoy?

2: The Devil Made Me Do It (Genesis 3)In this lesson, students will learn about the first sin ever committed and the Fall. Although there’s always someone we can blame for our sins, we’re still responsible for our sinfulness.

Let me tell you about a promise of God I hold to when I find myself believing in lies…

How can our family study Scripture together to better learn God’s truths and prepare against Satan’s lies?

3: The Spread of Sin (Romans 1:16–32)This lesson will connect what students have learned about creation and sin with their personal, everyday experience of sin and their need for a savior.

At what times do you clearly feel like you need Jesus to save you from sin?

Even though the world is broken, where do you see God’s original intention for creation peeking through?

4: Getting to Know God (Acts 17:22–34)This lesson digs into the many ways God has made to help us get to know him and how we can introduce others to God.

How have you learned what you know about God?

Let me tell you about a time when God revealed himself to me through his creation and through his Word…

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO TOGETHERStewardship Project

Read Genesis 1:26–31 together as a family. Discuss the things that stick out to you about God’s creation of humanity. Try to answer these questions as you read:

Why did he make humans? What did he assign them to do in his world? How is each member of your family contributing to that original assignment?

Then, as a family, decide on one way in which you can work together to fulfill God’s calling for humans to steward his creation (e.g., a recycling project or tending a garden as a family). Whatever you decide to do, choose an activity every member of the family can help with. Pick something that cuts into your normal routine so you’re all reminded of your role as stewards of God’s world. Find ways for everyone to get involved and pull out lessons from your experience that teach you about God and his creation. Take time to debrief the experience to discover any insights God may have given the members of your family.

Note: Tending to the earth isn’t the only way to steward God’s creation; we are his creations too. We are designed to steward our lives and use the talents he gave us to advance God’s kingdom. For this project, however, try to focus on something related to the earth (as many other parts of the Intersections curriculum focus on people). Use this project as a launching point for discussion about stewarding our lives as well as the earth.
