My way And now, the end is near;

and so i face the final curtain.my friend, i'll say it clear,

i'll state my case, of which i'm certain.

Page 17: esmeraldagarciarojas.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewThis course it to for fill the knowledge of the English teacher in the practice inside a classroom having the necessaries

I've lived a life that's full.i've traveled each and ev'ry highway;

but more, much more than this,i did it my way.

Regrets, i've had a few;but then again, too few to mention.

i did what i had to doand saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;each careful step along the byway,

but more, much more than this,i did it my way.

Yes, there were times, i'm sure you knewwhen i bit off more than i could chew.

but through it all, when there was doubt,i ate it up and spit it out.

i faced it all and i stood tall;and did it my way.

I've loved, i've laughed and cried.i've had my fill; my share of losing.

and now, as tears subside,i find it all so amusing.To think i did all that;

and may i say - not in a shy way,"no, oh no not me,i did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?if not himself, then he has naught.

to say the things he truly feels;and not the words of one who kneels.

the record shows i took the blows -and did it my way!

Tip top

Texto de un crimen

Detective Ramirez walks in and looks around the room. Detective Estevez waits by the door. Ramirez walks up to the dead body and begins to speak.

“The neighbors called the police because of the smell. They say he was very quiet and minded his own business. He rarely had visitors. We need a forensics team here to tell us the exact cause and time of death.” He takes a closer look at the body and continues to describe the scene for Detective Estevez to make notes.

Page 19: esmeraldagarciarojas.files.wordpress.com€¦  · Web viewThis course it to for fill the knowledge of the English teacher in the practice inside a classroom having the necessaries

“I see trauma to the head and bruises all over his body. No bullet wound. Take a picture of the dining table. Someone else was here… eating a sandwich…and it wasn’t the victim. The killer ate the sandwich either before or after beating the victim, possibly to death. Either way, this is not a random murder; this was personal. Let’s start tracking down relatives and friends of the victim. We need to talk to anyone who knew him. Someone has to know something. Did you write all that down? Let’s start with the neighbors.”

Detective Estevez looks up from his cell phone. “Uh…I’m sorry I missed that. The cute girl I met at the bar last night just texted me. I think she wants to see me again!”

deportes

The team is exhausted. They sit in silence in the locker room, waiting for their coach. It is halftime and they don’t know what to do. They are losing 28 – 0. The coach staggers in. He stinks of smoke and whiskey and his shirt has a big yellow stain on it.  He raises his hand and yells “SILENCE!! I CANNOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING IF YOU ALL TALK AT THE SAME TIME!!” The players look at each other confused. No one had said anything.

“Now, everyone be seated and listen to me. We can still win this game. Just keep defending and… you know… scoring. That’s the beauty of basketball. A twenty-eight point lead is NOTHING!! Now… if you gentlemen will excuse me…” He walks over to the restroom, goes in and shuts the door. The players hear a loud thud and assume that he has passed out. No one says a word. They look at their captain. He stands up and speaks to the team. “Well…we should have mentioned that we were playing soccer and not basketball… but I guess it’s too late now. So, what can I say? Let’s go out there and do our best to limit the humiliation. Okay?”

peliculas

Saritha is watching a Bollywood movie with her boyfriend Chris. Bollywood movies are filmed in the Hindi language by the film industry based in Mumbai, India. The ‘B’ in Bollywood comes from ‘Bombay’, the old name for Mumbai. Traditional Bollywood movies are not meant to be realistic. They are usually musicals with plenty of dance, romance, action and very often violence. The reason for their popularity is that most people in India are poor and these films provide an escape from the reality of their daily lives. For the middle class, they are a way to live out fantasies of falling in love and marrying the man or woman of their dreams. This is not common in a country where their spouses are usually selected for them in what are called ‘arranged marriages’.  When you watch a traditional Bollywood movie, be prepared for a film, usually not shorter than two and a half hours, whose main purpose is to entertain.

This is Chris’ first Bollywood movie. He presses pause and turns to Saritha. “Let me see if I understand this. The ‘hero’ was just shot six times; fell out of a window on the fourth floor, got on his motorcycle and came back into the building by crashing through the door. He then escapes with the girl and they are now singing and dancing together?”

La nueva vida de ricardo

Moving to a new country is tough especially when you are 17. There are so many new things to learn and get used to! I’m Ricardo and I moved to Los Angeles from Juarez, Mexico

a year ago. I live with my Aunt and her family. They are very nice to me but I miss my parents and sister back home. They say that Juarez is one of the most dangerous cities in

the world. I don’t think it is bad at all. I think bad things happen everywhere, but most people there are very nice. Plus, the food is delicious. Sometimes I wish I could go back.
