Two artists coming together to share their musical talent to fundraise for a charity of their choosing. One artist will be current/popular today while the other will be a veteran of the music world. For example, Fleetwood Mac and Haim, Stevie Wonder and Bruno Mars, Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga. They will work on a song together which can be an original song or a mash-up, incorporating songs of their own missed together. They will record this new creation in a standalone studio owned by us which will be fully functional with a wide range of instruments and recording systems at the artists’ disposal. The song will be sold on iTunes and in record stores. All proceedings will go to a charity of the artists’ choosing.

The purpose of this show is to entertain the masses, fundraise for a wide variety of charities and to introduce new music to different ages. This will be a very exciting project for all involved and will also be hugely beneficial for the artists themselves and the charities which they have chosen to donate to.

Pitch Style

We will use a PowerPoint presentation to pitch our idea. We have chosen to use a PowerPoint because we believe that this I the most effective way of getting our ideas across. On our PowerPoint we will show our project’s logo and will discuss our project under headings similar to this proposal,

Launch

We hope that this PowerPoint will be visually appealing and will do justice to our idea, reflecting its main points and aspirations.

Target Audience

As the idea of this media product is to fundraise, it is important to reach as many people as possible. That is the benefit of having two artists from different eras to attract a broad target audience of different ages. Also on a creative front, the older audience will be introduced to the younger artist and in-turn the younger audience will be introduced to the older artists and there will be a link in the different generations. Therefore, the target audience will be anyone with an interest in popular music, regardless of their age and social demographic.

Resources

We will require many resources for getting in touch with the artists in the first place; we will need contacts to agents and representatives. We will also need certain resources for the recording process. We will need to build or rent out a studio which will be large enough for a lot of musicians and singers (if two bands are playing together). The instrument range will also have to be very mixed to allow for the broad range of music genres/styles which will be played in the studio.

Personnel requirements

Page 5: kimplunkett.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewThey will control all social media accounts of the project (YouTube account, Facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.) They

We will need large personnel for this project. There will need to be a contact team which gets in touch with the various agents of bands and singers to convince them to give up their own time to come into the studio and work with another artist to come up with the song which they are going to record for charity. The artists will also need to endorse the project by advertising the song and the cause for which they are fundraising for.

We will then need a studio team. They will be responsible for setting up the studio to the needs of each individual singer/band that are coming in to record. They will also source outside musicians if needed (people who will play the instruments live and can read music if the guest artist is a singer).

A recording/camera team is also required. They will need to film the recording of the song so that it can be used to draw more attention to the song and also as part of the marketing campaign. Two or three cameras will be used to capture the recording effectively to get different angles and perspectives. They will also operate as sound technicians to ensure that the sound of the music is to the utmost quality.

An advertising/marketing team will be needed. Their job will be to generate as much focus on the song as possible. They will control all social media accounts of the project (YouTube account, Facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter, Snapchat, etc.) They will also design posters, slogans and promotional video and ads to be broadcast on the radio, television, cinema, online, bus stops, billboards, etc.) Merchandise will also be created and given out for free at various locations around the country.

Competition

Our main competition comes in the form of various radio station’s ‘live room recordings’ such as BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge and Spin 103.8’s Live Room. However while these are similar in format, ours is unique because we have two different artists coming together. Also our project is for charity.

Proposed Location

The location in which we plan to record these songs is a studio somewhere in central Dublin as this is the most convenient location due to is good transport links to the airport, ( where the international artists will be arriving from), ports and has a large variety of hotels where the artists can stay. It is also the centre of the music scene in Ireland and it will be easier to source a suitable studio and extra personnel if needed.

Constraints

Some constraints which we would need to be aware of include cost, legal consideration and copyright.

Cost - This may prove to be a constraint as we may not have sufficient funds for the show. It costs between €100-€200 to rent a studio for an hour and we would need roughly 5-6 hours to complete a recording (setting up equipment, various takes, tidying up equipment). Mike Johnson from cleartrack recording studios highlights the cost of building a recording studio; ‘I would say realistically 10 to 20,000 for a home studio whereas a professional studio, I would say between 150k’. We also need to make sure that we have sufficient funds to get the project off the ground.

Legal constraints – We may need a recording contract/record label to produce and sell these songs. However as we have the artists’ permission as they are performing their song themselves and as this is a non-profit fund we are most likely not going to encounter any legal problems. We also need to think of workers, volunteers and insurance in the studio, including a health and safety system.

Copyright – We will need to make sure that our ideas cannot be taken by any other organisation or individual, therefore we should copyright then.

Press: We will advertise our show in all the main newspapers in their weekly entertainment magazines to reach out to both older and younger audience The reason for advertising our show in newspapers is for more of the older audience who wouldn’t use social media or have access to the internet as easily as our younger audience would.

Television: The reason we will use television for a form of advertising is because you can make different ads to suit different television channels. It also gets the show out to a bigger broader audience.

Outdoor advertising: The type of outside advertising we’ll be using is Billboards, Bus stop signs and buses. This helps get our show out advertised on the towns.

Social media: One of the biggest forms of advertising we’ll be using is the internet. The type of social media sites that we’ll be using will be Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. It will help us get our show out to not only Dublin or Ireland but to audiences around the world. Another important site that we’ll be using is YouTube. That will help us show the audience what goes on behind the scenes and let them hear messages from their favourite stars.

Merchandising: The type of merchandising we’ll be using will vary from pens, key rings, T-shirts, hoodies and mugs. We’ll also be doing competitions and give-aways to the listening audience.

Budget:

The budget for this project will mostly be spent on the recording studio and the advertising/marketing campaign. A budget of roughly €35,000 should be set.
