Hello Aidan and Cuthbert Classes, We hope you are well and keeping safe. Here is an RE project on the topic of Pentecost to complete over the next four weeks. We’ve tried to make the tasks as fun and creative as we can while you are learning at home. There are tasks for each week which are suitable for all. However, if you want to push yourself you may choose to try the extension challenge which is a bit trickier. It would be fantastic if you can ask a grown up to take pictures of the work you have done (or videos) and email them to [email protected] marked FAO: Mrs Hunneysett (Year 1) or Mrs Stansfield (year 2) to see and mark. We can also try to include them on the website and Facebook for everyone to enjoy. Warmest wishes Mrs Hunneysett and Mrs Stansfield Tasks 1 To be completed by 24 th April 2020 . Explore – I know that holidays are times to be happy Let’s think about holidays. What happens on a holiday? Who do you spend it with? Here’s an old picture of me on holiday. Task to be completed by 1 st May 2020 I can retell the story of The Ascension – when Jesus went to his Father in Heaven

The word holiday comes from holyday. In times past the only holiday anyone had was a saint’s feast day or important feast days like Easter and Christmas. Some days of the year are ‘holy days’, when we celebrate these special times in the Church’s year. We have just celebrated the feast of Easter when we remember Jesus rising from the dead.

After Jesus came back to life he visited his friends many times but then had to leave them to join his Father God in Heaven. We call this day The Ascension. It is also a feast day or holy day.

I can talk about the coming of the Holy Spirit for the first time at Pentecost

Jesus promised to send a helper from Heaven: the Holy Spirit. This is God in an invisible form. The Holy Spirit came for the first time at Pentecost.

Watch what happened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqG_lvZhU-A

The coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost changed Jesus’ friends: the disciples. It is a holy day because this gift of the Holy Spirit is very special. The Holy Spirit helps and guides us in our lives just as happened to the disciples. The Holy Spirit appeared to the disciples like tongues of fire, giving them strength and courage to go out and tell people about Jesus.

KEY QUESTIONS

Who were the people there in the room when the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost?

What were the signs of the Holy Spirit?

How do you think Mary and the disciples felt?

Why do you think they felt like that?

What do you think the tongues of fire represent?

Task: How were the disciples changed by the coming of the Holy Spirit? Draw a picture of their faces before and after Pentecost. You may use this template if you wish.

Before the coming of the Holy Spirit

Page 6:   · Web viewThe word holiday comes from . hol. y. da. y. ... Exte nsion Task: Make a video or draw a comic strip cartoon of what happened at The Ascension. You can draw your own

After the coming of the Holy Spirit

Extension task: Just as the Holy Spirit gave Jesus’ friends the courage to spread the Good News of God’s love, the Holy Spirit helps Christians today. Design a poster showing how Christians spread the good news of God’s love. You can use one of the templates (dove or flame) in the resources section if you wish.

Please take photos of your work and keep sending it in for the attention of Mrs Hunneysett (year 1) or Mrs Stansfield (year 2).

Task to be completed by 15 th May 2020

I am beginning to know that the Holy Spirit helps peopleThe Holy Spirit is with everyone. People can pray to the Holy Spirit whenever they or anyone else needs help. The Holy Spirit is the friend that Jesus promised. The Holy Spirit will help people all their lives so that they can join Jesus in Heaven when it is time for them to go there. Jesus has promised people

new life in Heaven when they die. This is a help and comfort for anyone who is sad because someone they loved has died. The Holy Spirit is invisible but it is usually shown in pictures as a flame or a dove.

Stop and Think! Have a chat about the following questions:Q  What sort of things might the Holy Spirit do for us? Q  What has Jesus promised?Q  What is the Good News that we are asked to pass on?

Task: Make a Holy Spirit flame headband – see template under resources. Colour in the flame and then write along the strip a way that you could use the power of the Holy Spirit to help others. It might be by doing something kind or doing something brave. Remember it is something that helps others like Jesus himself would have done.If you don’t have a printer ask a grown up to cut you a strip and a flame shape out of card or paper.

Don’t forget to send the photos of you wearing your Pentecost Headband to [email protected] FAO: Mrs Hunneysett or Mrs Stansfield
