The graduate faculty of the Counselor Education program have met and have determined that to ensure that COAD 6409 aligns congruently with the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 2009 Standards it is necessary to change the title of the course from The Helping Relationship to Counseling Skills and Techniques. To most effectively inform students of the purpose and content of this course and to bring the course in line with current accreditation verbage, the title of the course needs to be changed. The proposed title, Counseling Skills and Techniques, more adequately conveys the

6. Course description exactly as it should appear in the next catalog: 6409. Counseling Skills and Techniques (3) Fundamental skills development for subsequent professional studies of counseling. Emphasis on development of specific skills in counseling, testing, human relations, design of counseling strategies, and treatment plans.

7. If this is a course revision, briefly describe the requested change:

Faculty members are requesting the title of the course to be changed from The Helping Relationship to Counseling Skills and Techniques. Additionally, faculty members are requesting to delete the prerequisites listed for this course (COAD 6401 and COAD 6404). The faculty have met and determined that deleting COAD 6409: Counseling Skills and Techniques is a foundational knowledge course not requiring prerequisite courses to be completed for effective learning in COAD 6409. The faculty have approved the proposed revisions.
