Sudbury Career Event Highlights January 30, 2019 Event Overview - Key Successes - Chapter engagement 15 Northern Lights Chapter members attended the event and helped do their part in supporting the growth of the profession. Many OBOA social media followers helped spread the word pre and post event by sharing social media posts. - Visibility within the municipality (City of Greater Sudbury Mayor, Council and communications department) – the reality of a looming of the ‘silver tsunami’ and career event sparked valuable conversations with the City of Greater Sudbury’s Mayor and Council. - Relationship building with educational and building industry partners – local colleges, universities and industry professionals. - Generating interest with media – this event sparked an interest around our recruitment crisis and the positive steps that municipalities and the OBOA are doing to fill the talent gaps within the profession. - Raising awareness and generating interest for the profession with potential new recruits. 40+ attendees. 25+ Students opted in for future email communication. 80% of students stayed to mix and mingle with Northern Lights Chapter Building Officials and panelists. Panel Members:Attendees heard from a panel of experts including Greater Sudbury’s Chief Building Official Guido Mazza, and department staff (Sherri Budgell, Victoria LaChapelle and Brock Sanftenberg), Sault Ste. Marie’s François Couture, local architect and Laurentian University School of Architecture professor Dennis Castellan.
