25. Raising Support

NLAI is a “faith mission sending organization” which means that all members of the organization must trust the Lord to provide funding for: (1) tuition and living expenses for the required training program at NLAI School of Mission, San Juan, Texas; (2) their outfit and passage to the field; (3) their personal needs on the field; and (4) the support of their respective ministries. In concert with God’s calling to the mission field, we as individuals must pray and ask God to move the hearts of people, churches, and Christian foundations to provide funding for all of the above needs in order to make our ministry abroad a reality. And this means that we must work, in conjunction with what God is doing, to contact God’s people and prayerfully ask for their support of the ministry to which God has called you.

Specific Questions: Please explain where you are in the process of seeing God’s people participate financially in the ministry in which you will engage when you arrive on the field. How many churches have committed to help you financially? How many individuals? Do you have any sense of how much funding will be required to support you and your ministry on the field? What will be your approach to “fund raising?” Please explain on a separate sheet of paper.

Note: You will receive training in how to prayerfully approach the fund raising task as part of the curriculum of NLAI School of Mission.

26. Calling and Commitment. (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

Although no one knows the future, what does being called of God to the mission field mean to you? If you are certain of your calling to serve in foreign missions, what is your perspective with regard to: (1) the length of your term of service on the field; (2) the strength of your faith in the Lord; (3) your assessment of yourself (and your family) with regard to such attributes as self-sacrifice, determination, tenacity, resiliency and commitment, which are foundational characteristics of an effective missionary family or single missionary; (4) your ability to cope with adversity, hardship, and disappointment; and (5) how well do you handle conflict with other people? On a separate sheet, please address these questions seriously without appealing to shallow clichés. Be honest and real.

27. Attitude of Spouse (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

8

Page 9: storage.cloversites.comstorage.cloversites.com/newlifeadvanceinternational/docu…  · Web viewP.O. Box 35857. Houston, TX 77235-5857. Tel. 832-242-7750. NLAIapps@gmail.com. APPLICATION

What is the attitude of your spouse regarding foreign mission service? Does he or she share your sense of calling on the field? What qualities do you see in him or her which justifies your answer? Be specific and thorough. Explain on a separate sheet.

28. Relationship with Your Spouse (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

How would you describe your relationship with your spouse? Have you ever had marriage therapy with a counselor or mental health professional? If so, what issues did you address, and what has been the outcome on the quality of your marriage? Please explain.

29. Attitudes of Children (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

If you have children over 12 years old, what is their attitude about moving away from friends, and all the trappings of living in America, to live in a foreign context? Have you discussed these issues with them? How have they responded? What actions have you taken (or will take) to prepare your teen(s) for this drastic change? How do you see them fitting into your ministry on the field with regard to such things as: their schooling, isolation from friends and youth activities, and language and culture learning? Please write a comprehensive assessment of their willingness and readiness to make such a challenging change. You must be very clear and honest about this matter.

Please note: It is well known that teens, who are opposed to moving abroad, have the potential of becoming angry and rebellious after they arrive on the field which, in extreme cases, can result in the missionary family leaving the field. During your training in the NLAI School of Mission, NLAI, in concert with the parents, will carefully observe the conduct of your teenaged children and make an assessment as to their fitness of moving abroad. NLAI will make every effort to help families deal with this issue. Ultimately, however, children who cannot adjust to the idea of moving abroad will preclude the appointment of their parents as NLAI missionaries.

30. Attitudes of your Parents toward your Mission Plans (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

What are the attitudes of your parents regarding missionary service? What are the reasons? If you parents are older and require special care, how will you deal with this? 31. Other Domestic Situations or Personal Issues (Answer on a separate sheet or sheets)

1. Are you contributing to Social Security? If not, NLAI requests that you enroll. If you insist on opting out of Social Security, NLAI requires that you save the amount of money comparable to the funds you would be required to pay into Social Security. NLAI will deposit these funds in the financial institution you specify.

2. If the nation in which you plan to serve prohibits access to missionaries (now the predominate policy in many nations), what will be your means of gaining access? How will this impact your financial needs?

3. The visa requirements in many nations make it difficult for missionaries to remain in-country on an ongoing, long-term basis. Usually, unless one has some type of long-term or resident visa, which are difficult to obtain, or unless some quota exists for missionaries, the missionary and his family will almost certainly be required to leave the country periodically (for example, every 3 months) and reapply for reentry. Periodic travel in an out of the country will require significant additional financial support. Questions requiring preliminary research:

a. What are the visa regulations in the nation where you desire to serve?

Statement of Faith

We believe: in one God and Father who is the maker and ruler of all things; in Jesus Christ, His Son, who is God manifest in flesh and Savior of the world; and in the Holy Spirit, God present with us, who renews our hearts and guides, comforts and empowers us for proclamation and ministry.

We believe: in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead for our justification; in the forgiveness of sins through Christ’s atoning sacrifice for all mankind; in salvation by faith in Christ alone; in the Bible, God’s inspired Word which is the only infallible rule of both faith and practice; in the Church, the body of Christ which is a worshipping community and is God’s instrument to minister to the needs of its members, to make disciples of all the nations, to work for social justice, and to relieve human suffering.

We believe: in the bodily return of Jesus Christ who will raise the dead, judge all people according to the deeds done in the body, and establish His glorious kingdom.
