Reading Lessons and AssignmentsAll reading lessons will be assigned via i-Ready. When you enter the i-Ready platform on Launchpad, you will see two options: “My Path” and “Teacher Assigned”. The Teacher Assigned lessons are based on the comprehension standard for the week. These will be your Reading grade for the week.

The “My Path” lessons are also very important. They address skills that are specific to your learning needs!

I will also post additional videos and resources in the Distance Learning section of my class web page. Please check there for extra help with the week’s i-Ready lesson focus, as well as for videos of me reading the daily read aloud book, The Tale of Despereaux.

Last but not least - Reading Logs. Please read 20 minutes per day or 100 minutes a week and log your book title, date, and time in the reading log, posted in Microsoft Teams.

If you need help accessing Microsoft Teams, please email me or call me!

Daily Writing PromptsUse a journal, 3-prong folder, or notebook to keep your writing organized. Make sure to date each writing

entry. You will submit your final draft assignments in Microsoft Teams. You will submit the written portion to me when we return to class.

Writing Prompts:1. Brainstorm some ideas for a personal narrative, about a time you tried something new. Use a heart

map to list your ideas. Choose which you would like to write about the most and draw a picture to go with it.

2. Create an outline for your personal narrative. The sections of your outline should be: Beginning (Characters and Setting), Middle (Problem and at least 2 events), and Ending (Solution to the problem and how the character feels).

3. Draft your personal narrative. You should use words like “I” and “my” because this story is about you – It's personal! Do not worry about spelling too much. Just make sure you include all the elements from your outline.

4. Edit your draft. Read it out loud to someone at home (even your dog or cat), and listen for missing parts or parts that need to be taken out. Does the story make sense? Does it flow smoothly? Is there a clear problem and solution? Is it interesting? How can you make it more interesting? Add more details!

5. Revise your draft. Read it out loud to someone, again. Look for capital letters, punctuation, and spelling errors and fix them! You should be marking all over your paper during this stage.

6. Type your final draft in Microsoft Teams – Personal Narrative Final Draft. You can attach a Word document to the work section before submitting it. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE IT VIA EMAIL. You need to click “Turn In” on Teams.

7. Brainstorm some ideas for a new personal narrative, about a time you felt nervous or excited. Use a heart map to list your ideas. Choose which you would like to write about the most and draw a picture to go with it.

8. Create an outline for your personal narrative. The sections of your outline should be: Beginning (Characters and Setting), Middle (Problem and at least 2 events), and Ending (Solution to the
