United States Naval Academy Marathon Team Date: Sunday, October 6, 2019 Event: Metric Marathon Distance: 26.2 Kilometers (16.3 Miles) Location: Hardwood, Maryland Weather: Cloud cover for the majority of the race, approximately 60-75°F throughout the time of the race. Participants: 1 Officer Representative (Commander Chris Martino) 31 Runners 19 Volunteers Race Info: There were 185 finishers in this year’s 38th annual Metric Marathon. We arrived early (0630) for volunteering before the start of the race (0800) where we helped people park. Once the race started, there were 31 midshipmen runners and 19 volunteers who were stationed at monitors and water stations. The volunteers cheered on racers, providing them motivation and support. Many of the volunteers were Marathon Roster members who will be participating in the Chicago Marathon next weekend (October 12-13). This was the first race of the semester that plebes were allowed to participate in. It was fairly cool for the majority of the race with cloud cover. Out of the 31 Midshipmen Runners and 1 Officer Representative, everyone finished and we had a few PRs (mainly 1 st time runners) and runners that finished in the top 3 of their age group. Conclusion: In total, the Navy Marathon Team had several PRs and many finishing in the top 3 of their age division. It was a wonderful day to race with cooler weather and a nice cloud cover. The course was very beautiful, taking us for a run through the backroads of Annapolis.
