Look! 1 Look! is an English language series for young teenagers. Look! 1, the first book in the series, is for young teenagers who may be new to learning English or may have learned some basic English at primary school. Although Look! 1 has a gently graded syllabus and a light- hearted approach, it is very serious and thorough in the approach to grammar, vocabulary and skills development. Lookl! 1 uses familiar task types with exceptional understanding of the process of learning and confident progress. The unique visual approach to presenting and explaining grammar helps students to understand that language is governed by systems. Vocabulary is presented visually and practised using the fold-in flap to hide lists of new words. Students begin to plan and execute simple communicative writing tasks from the very first lesson. The authors were famous for their systematic approach to training writing skills in their Senior Secondary course Energy. Look! uses the same careful training in planning, drafting, editing writing tasks before creating the final, polished text. Look! 1 teaches regular learning tips for storing and remembering vocabulary. At the back of the book, large pictures review key vocabulary with extra vocabulary memorisation activities. There are also two plays A job for superheroes? and Alien visit designed for classroom performance. There is regular recycling of newly presented language between units. The songs have been chosen for their strong melodies and their appropriate vocabulary. Regular cultural development pages introduce students to everyday life in the English speaking world. Regular project work introduces students to research in English and clear output in the LOOK1 Correlation Chart Page 1

Vocabulary is presented visually and practised using the fold-in flap to hide lists of new words. Students begin to plan and execute simple communicative writing tasks from the very first lesson. The authors were famous for their systematic approach to training writing skills in their Senior Secondary course Energy.

Regular project work introduces students to research in English and clear output in the form of posters, booklets, diaries, etc. These individually produced materials would be particularly suitable for the student’s Dossier in their European Language Portfolio.

Look! 1 reveals a profound understanding of the interests, capabilities and learning styles of young teenagers. It is very easy to teach, because the methodology is so transparent on the Student’s Book page. It is perhaps slower and more methodical than other Junior Secondary courses, so teachers can feel confident that weaker students will progress and keep up with the class. The strong visual presentation of topics and language makes the material both clear and memorable.

Look! 1 covers the structures, vocabulary, communication and skills development at Level A1 of the Common European Framework.
