Things are always busy around here with special events and Sundays, but I want to remind you of another big Sunday coming up on October 27 - Homecoming! This promises to be a very special celebration as we gather together to remember and proclaim that Wrightsboro UMC is more than our church, it is our home. We hope that former members of the church family will return to share in the celebration of all that God has done here over the years. I have invited our former associate pastor, Rev. Lynn Wall, to be our guest preacher. The choir is working on some special music, and the Good News Singers will bless us as well. Following worship, we will gather together on the grounds to share a lunch of barbecue and sides as we enjoy a time of fellowship. As we celebrate that WUMC is our church home, we will have some people step forward and proclaim that WUMC is their "official" church home by taking membership vows and joining the church. If the Lord has been leading you to join the church and become a "formal" member, please contact me so we can discuss it. This includes anyone who may not have been baptized or made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ. Give me a call and let's talk about taking that important step. Let's spread the word about our special Homecoming celebration and invite everyone we can - friends, neighbors, family, former members, even strangers. It will be a wonderful occasion to have visitors and introduce them to this wonderful church that we call home! CRAFTY FRIDAY

The Crafty Friday Ladies meet each Friday at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall for crafts, fellowship, and coffee.  We will be working on making beaded crosses and angels for the Chrismon and Angel Trees.   We would love to have more ladies come out on Friday mornings.  You don't have to be a master crafter; just come out and have fun. DVD Ministry Each week, John Fuller records our 10:50am Worship Service.  If you missed worship or would like to share the service with a friend or family member, copies are available.  A sign-up sheet is in the lobby; put your name and date of the service, and we will get a copy to you. A donation of $5.00 is appreciated to cover the cost of supplies.

The 2019 Flower Chart, found on bulletin board in hallway, is quickly filling up! If you would like to have an arrangement grace our altar area in honor or memory of someone just go and sign up on the chart. The cost is $49.00.

Available Dates:October 13November 3, 24December 8, 22

Our Bud Vase ministry begins after your Sunday flowers have beautified our

Sanctuary. Just donate the flowers and Donna Fisk will take them and arrange in bud vases and take to a local Nursing Home.

Prayer Chain Have a prayer concern?

Who do you contact?

Email the church office and we will email it out to the Prayer Chain.  Note that the Prayer Chain is a different list from those receiving this Newsletter.  If you would like to be on the Prayer Chain email list, contact the church office. Just remember that you are committing to pray for the members of our church and their family and friends.

YOUTH GROUP The youth are looking forward to fall and our opportunities for fellowship. We meet weekly on Wednesday's from 6:30-7:30. We are planning to attend Hubbs Corn Maze on October 18th. The youth are looking forward to Pilgrimage in November. We will also plan a service project in December along with a lock in.

If you have a child in 6th-12th grade please have them join us!

Please see Chris or Gina Crowder for more information.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

We meet every Sunday at 9:45 am in the Education Building. Your children, grandchildren and your neighbor's children need to know and grow in Christ. Please help us to bring the Gospel to life in them. The Good News Singers practice every Wednesday evening at 6:30, and we plan to continue through the summer even when there is no family dinner. We sing every month in church, usually the third Sunday. After practicing, we have a snack and then the older children act out a Bible skit, while the younger children do a simple craft or coloring project. We finish at 7:30 pm. We look forward to including your child in the fun. If you have any questions, please talk to Pam Lipka (910-706-1252).

MISSIONS AND OUTREACH

AGAPE LOVE FOR ARMENIA

Agape boxes are on their way to bring Christmas excitement to the children of Armenia.  After filling 100 boxes at the packing party, we were able to fill 80 more.  There were approximately 8  people at the packing party who enjoyed good food, fellowship and the joy of knowing that we were sending the love of Jesus across the world to these children.

MERCI

Page 3: wrightsboroumc.orgwrightsboroumc.org/.../2019/10/October-2019-Newsletter.docx · Web viewLet's spread the word about our special Homecoming celebration and invite everyone we can

There is much need at the MERCI Center right now.  Thousands of shoe boxes have been delivered and are waiting to be inspected.  The time is getting close for the boxes to be shipped in order to be there for Christmas, so if you have free time to help, see Joyce Parker or the office for a schedule of days the warehouse will be open.  For those of you who have been the MERCI you know what a great time it is.

MISSION IN BURGAW

We are close to completion on the Florence-damaged house we are helping to restore in Burgaw.  There is still sheet rock to be finished and a few odds and ends.  There will be another project available in Pender County; there are still hundreds of people displaced and waiting to go home.  See the missions committee if you are interested in helping them do that.

MEALS ON WHEELS

We continue to serve approximately 30 shut-ins with a hot meal on the first Saturday of each month.  These are people in our own community who are physically handicapped or financially unable to buy food.  We sometimes tend to take our blessings for granted but for these people it's a little different and they welcome a friendly face with a meal showing up at their door.
